My mother was admitted to AH Kearny with advanced stage dementia just a little over a week ago…read more Today, my mother's safety was at risk and the supervisor on site did not follow protocol, leaving my mother vulnerable, fearful, and paranoid. A guest came to visit the patient that is sharing a room with my mom. The new patient was moved in just a few days ago. The patient was bothered that my mom was on the phone with me for quite some time while she had her company. I suppose she was expecting my mom to leave the room while she had her visitor. While on the phone with my mother, I heard the patient in the bed next to her tell her visitor, "I want to be moved out of this room, she makes so much noise." Her visitor proceeded to come from behind the room curtain towards my mother and yelled at my mother. She yelled "You need to stop bothering her, you better leave her alone!" What kind of person believes it is appropriate to verbally assault a dementia patient at a facility that is charged with keeping patients safe? I had my mom stay on the phone with me while I called the supervisor. As one could imagine, I feared for my mom's safety after hearing a stranger verbally assault her while she was completely alone and defenseless. The supervisor answered the phone after being paged twice by the operator. I explained to her what had just occurred verbatim. She told me she would immediately go to the room to address the situation. After several minutes she walks into the room and stated to the guest that she was told that my mother had been yelled at. Naturally the guest denied yelling at my mother. The supervisor then spoke to the guest outside of the room to talk privately and allowed the guest back in the room, unattended, after just having verbally assaulted a patient. That is a serious violation of patient safety. The supervisor gets back on the phone and tells me that the guest denied yelling at my mother as if I did not hear the entire incident with my own ears. She goes on to say that the other patient complained about my mother being a nuisance. She then stated she would move the patient to another room to avoid any issues. I reiterated that the guest did indeed yell at my mother but the supervisor was dismissive. Staff came and moved the patient and her visitor to another room. The visitor should not have been allowed to stay after verbally assaulting a dementia patient. The supervisor was dismissive about my concerns regarding the visitor's behavior. At an advanced stage of dementia, my mother displays paranoia, obsessive behavior patterns, and is easily frustrated. Her dementia symptoms however, does not entitle anyone to verbally assault her because her disease is challenging. Her dementia does not make her any less worthy of compassion. Her dementia does not make her any less worthy of feeling safe. Today's incident was handled negligently and our family will not tolerate it.

My wife was transferred from Clara Mass hospital for rehabilitation from a surgical procedure. She was place with long time patients where there is 1 nurse per approximately 30 patients. My spouse was on 24 hour oxygen and did not receive oxygen for nearly 7 hours upon her arrival at Alaris and when they provided the tank it was not even turned on. She was also to have 2 nebulizer treatments done which were never given. My wife had called me multiple times claiming she was having difficulty breathing which made me go directly to the facility to figure out what was going on. Upon arriving to her floor I was greeted by a assistant nurse who's feet were up on the desk while texting someone. When I asked where my wife's room was, she acted as if I was rudely interrupting her!!! When I went into my wife's room it was quite clear the was no oxygen available to her. I then proceeded to ask the nurse why my wife was not on oxygen and why she did not receive her treatments? She replied "it's not my problem I just got on"! I was floored to say the least. When speaking to their so called head nurse, she immediately went and spoke with the acting nurse for my spouse. They actually got into a verbal fight right in front of everyone! Needless to say they supplied my wife with a oxygen tank and had her medication for her nebulizer treatments BUT HAD NO FUNCTIONAL MACHINES to administer her treatments!!! When I started to get a little upset with the situation, I was immediately dismissed by all the staff there in regards to my wife's treatment. The situation was so bad my wife was laboring to breath and 911 was called by myself to have her transferred back to the hospital where she was immediately put in ICU because of her oxygen being dangerously low! When the police and medics got there, it was made very clear that no oxygen was coming from the tank provided by the facility If you truly care for your loved ones, chose a facility other then this one! In my opinion, they are rude, incompetent and severely understaffed to where they cannot properly care for their patients! This facility actually sent a certified letter stating my spouse was transported due to pain!

My family has been freaking out and stressing due to the mistreatment and lack of care. She asked one of the floor aides to help her get out of bed in which the aide told my grandma that she is too fat. My grandma then asked the aide if she can call a nurse in to help her instead. The aide walked away, ignoring her request. My parents and aunt have been going there DAILY just to make sure my grandmother is actually being taken care of. I am baffled that a place like this is still open and treating patients. I cannot imagine being a patient here with no one to advocate for you. If a hospital is looking to send one of your family members here, please, please, reconsider. Finding a place other than this one will save you and your family members lots of stress. I hope this place is shut down soon. Terrible.

I brought my daughter in while she was actively having an asthma attack and in clear respiratory distress. Instead of prioritizing her medical condition, the staff focused on an issue with her insurance, stating that the subscriber could not be found. I explained that I was willing to pay out of pocket just to have her seen, but they still refused to provide care. It was extremely alarming and disappointing to see a child in need of urgent medical attention turned away over administrative issues. In that moment, her health and safety should have come first. Because they refused to treat her, we had no choice but to leave and go to the emergency room for care. This delay could have had very serious consequences. To make matters worse, it felt like the urgency to clear out the waiting area may have played a role in their decision-making, which is deeply concerning if true. I would strongly caution other parents to think twice before coming here in an emergency situation. No family should have to go through this when their child needs immediate medical help. What's more frustrating is their billing system. They never billed to my insurance company but trying to charge me additional money directly. I was trying to get the billing issue solved for months, both called my insurance company and the urgent care for at least 5 times. Every time received the same response from the urgent care. They were going to escalate the issue and have submitted the bill. However, when I was trying to get the claim id. They could never provide it. Apparently, they did nothing, just want to get extra money from the patient! WANT TO re-emphasize the below 4 points. 1. I have already met my deductible this year. 2. There is no any record for this visit on my insurance portal. That's why my insurance company was asking for the claim id so that they can check. However the urgent care cannot provide even one. 3. I arrive at this hospital at 7 PM on the dot. This is already after visiting two Urgent Care's that…read moredid not have access to x-rays. My check-in and triage experience went well in and out within 30 minutes, but by the time I got put into an area #27 everything went downhill. I did not wait long for x-rays however, the results of the x-rays took longer than should have. Then they took me for a CAT scan that also did not take long to get done. However, I have been waiting since about 9- 930 for the results of the CT scan. It is now 12:35AM. It should not take me five hours in the ER for pain and swelling in my wrist. Most definitely should not take three hours to interpret a CT scan. And to add insult to injury, someone just came to put a sling on my arm and I don't even know what's wrong with my wrist. I don't know the results of the CT scan but they want to put a sling on. I'm not making this up. I had to ask her am I in the twilight zone because this is really crazy. All of this is happening in real time. I was just about to finish this review when that happened so I'm gonna keep this open until I'm completely finished with this hospital and never have to come back. The doctor finally came and immediately went on the defensive saying other staff told him I was walking all around screaming about wanting to leave, which is false. I am a social worker and would never, so for the staff to lie on me like that is insane. I don't play about my character and will not allow someone to assassinate my character falsely. Nevertheless the doc apologized and was able to give me the information I had been waiting for and he is discharging me after he finds a left hand brace for my wrist. Had to come back to edit. They had no left hand braces and the doc had to improvise. We used the right hand brace just to keep my wrist straight.
