Dr. Yong Sook Lynda Lee has been my rheumatologist for 17 yrs now. I do not know where to even start about our amazing doctor. Detective of Lupus & RA is an understatement. You have your doctors in the field that think 'Business' first in each case/patient. Then you have your Phenomenal Specialists that think 'Patient/disease" first and foremost. She is my unicorn. My gem. Always thinking about my well being and what I want to achieve. She takes the time to sit with you and explain your options. She teaches you about what is happening to your body. Will you be waiting a bit to see her? Sure! Bring a book and have some 'me time'! I promise the wait is worth your health. I would wait all day to talk to her, happily! Dr Lee has been my rheumatoid doctor for close to five years. I consider her one of the best doctors in the industry. When you have RA a lot of things could happen on a weekly basis. I recently had a major flair up, worst I ever had. I communicated with her via the Stanford app, she responded within a day, my other doctors don't do that! I finally got into see her and as I said I was in serious bad shape, she understood every aspect of what I was telling her, showed and gave me options and on her advice on next steps and additional meds 72 hours later I was 50% better and one week later I'm 90% better. Pros: Everything you could want in a medical professional Cons: She spends so much time with each patient...you'll need to wait a while for your turn Star Ratings: - Overall: 5 - Gentleness: 5 - Thoroughness: 5 - Knowledge: 5 - Good Humor: 5 - Time Allotment: 5 - Mary Lou: 5 - Waiting Room: 4 - Location: 4 - Building: 3 - Parking: 5 The sign on her business card says "rheumatologist", but Dr Lynda Lee is like a primary care physician who happens to specialize in rheumatology. Ever since my former rheumatologist, Dr Ronald Restifo, retired in the fall of 2010 ( see my review from 9-6 of that year ), I've seen Dr Lee for periodic treatment. In fact, so has my wife since we've got essentially the same issues. We got lucky. I can't imagine a more knowledgeable, skillful and talented medical professional. And, perhaps most important, down-to-earth and sharing of her time. Dr Lee's office is adjacent to the El Camino Hospital ( the former Los Gatos Community Hospital ) on Pollard Road in the northwest part of Los Gatos. She's there with 5 other rheumatologists ( one of whom is Dr "Jennifer" Lee ) so together they form a rather formidable practice for people with various autoimmune conditions in Silicon Valley. Her building is within a mini-business park which has seen better days...probably in the 1970s... but just as my mother said, it's what on the inside that counts the most. Dr Lee's location is tucked into a corner and can be tough to find, so first time visitors should check the map posted in a couple of spots around the perimeter of the complex. The waiting room is fairly large with 20-30 leather ( or faux-leather? ) chairs tightly packed in the middle and against the walls. They're quite comfortable which is mandatory for the rheumatology patients who visit. One thing I like, in particular, is the vast amount and type of magazines available in baskets scattered around the room. Since there are 6 doctors sharing a practice, the arrangement of rooms represents a maze of spaces, so I'd recommend following the directions of the nurse who greets you on the other side of the reception desk. You can get lost. But if you're like me, I just need to know where the bathroom is. Dr Lee is everything a doctor should be. She listens intently...ask questions like a detective...draws diagrams and makes copies of pages in books to illustrate information... offers an understandable analysis and provides a range of recommendations. That's all great, but the part I particularly like is the time allocated to each person. You get the distinct feeling she'll spend 10 minutes with one patient and an hour with another if that's what it takes to do the job. I've seen her at least 6 times and never for less than 30 minutes. One instance, when she switched me from Enbrel to Humira, took 75 minutes. I've never felt so cared for. Recently, I hurt my lower back and experienced tremendous pain down the left leg. I tried to see my neurosurgeon, but was told to wait FIVE WEEKS!!!! Since I couldn't walk, that was not a good choice. By the way, when you speak of "my" neurosurgeon, the writing is on the wall. You're in trouble!! Anyway, I saw my primary care physician ( PCP ) who thought the condition was similar to my neck...stenosis around the spine...and ordered prednisone to relieve inflammation ( followed by a milder medicine ). It didn't help much, so I saw his wife ( sounds like a joke, but she's a great doctor in her own right ). She said "it's an injured disc...possibly a rupture or herniation"...and ordered an MRI and muscle relaxant in addition to the milder medicine mentioned above. However, earlier I asked the office of Dr Lee to have her call me. Their response was "forget a call. Can you come in tomorrow?" I did and she spent a full 40 minutes reviewing the situation. Dr Lee said "get that MRI ASAP" and gave me a patch called Lidoderm meant to provide direct relief to impacted areas for 12 hours at a time. There was no magic cure, but she proceeded as a PCP and took as much time as needed to address the complicated issues in layman's language ( maybe I'm just a slow learner? ). It was everything I expected from her....and yet something quite unexpected in the profession. Time. Of course, the flip side of spending an eternity with each patient is the time you need to wait. 30-60 minutes might pass before the clock on your visit actually begins. But she's worth it. One other highlight of each visit to Dr Lee is talking with her nurse, Mary Lou. She's got a lot of experience, is very thorough, gets to know each patient and is like your sister, mom or grandmother...depending on your age. She spent a lot of time with me during the initial appointment and explained everything very well. i now have a good undertanding of my medical situation. It is all true: long wait in the lobby, long wait in the room, and even to get an appointment with her.... it's months out. As a new patient, I waited over 4 months to meet her. And boy am I soooooo glad I waited. She is an exceptional doctor. I wish all my doctors were just like her. Let me explain why. 1. She explains everything in detail to you. 2. If you don't get it, she explains it to you. If you need it repeated, she'll do it. If you need an information sheet she will do it, and if you need pictures-- she will do it! 3. She SPENDS THE TIME WITH YOU. My average time with her is about one hour and 10 minutes. The longest; 1 hour and 40 minutes (you don't need to know why-- let's just say I was a needier patient that day). I have never felt rushed out of any of my appointments. ^^This is why you end up waiting in the lobby for so long^^ 3. She is absolutely thorough with her work. She tests you for anything that can be even a bit suspecious. Sucks getting sooooooo much blood taken out, but it's worth to know where my health stand point is. 4. She addresses all your concerns or symptoms. She doesn't play any of it off. I told her once that I thought my mind was making up new symptoms. She quickly ended that thought and ordered tests for me to do to make sure that it wasn't anything severe. 5. Lastly, she respects her patients so much. She informs you about the issues/problems and then she gives you alternative choices on how we can go about it. When she felt a push back from me, she didn't try to pressure me into doing what she thought that would be best fit. She heard me out and we worked on a compromise for my treatment plan. This is where she definitely earned my respect. I am sad that I will lose her later, but I am 10000% grateful for her and having the opportunity to be her patient. Dr. Lynda Lee is one of the best examples of what a caring Dr. should be. She's quick, to the point, tells you how things are, what they should be - and sends you off. Even though the visits are so fast, and are hard to book (because this office is booked for months when you call to get seen), it's such a relief once you do go because you know where you stand medically, and Dr. Lee always puts you at ease with her advice, suggestions, etc. I'm so happy I've got PPO because if I didn't, I don't know what I'd do without being able to have Dr. Lee as my Rheumotology Dr. :D read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Lynda Lee for a while now. I absoloutly LOVE her, but her staff leaves something to be desired. They never answer their phones, take DAYS (if your lucky) to call back leaving the patiet in severe pain all the time. It's true that she books MONTHS in advance, and if you need an urgent appointment, save your time and just go to ER or an urgent care clinic. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't change my doctor just because of the staff. If you don't mind a slow staff, she's wonderful. read more

I've been seeing Dr. Lee for four years. I continue to drive to Los Gatos to see her even after moving to Monterey. I always have to wait at least 45 minutes, but it's worth the wait because she's the only doctor who actually listens to me, explains things patiently, and doesn't rush me out after 2 minutes. Bring a book, a snack, and some patience. Her waiting room is comfortable and her staff is pleasant. I'm writing this as I wait for an appointment, and I just witnessed her receptionist act courteously and patiently with a woman who threw one of those flower pens when she found out there was a wait. No joke. I told the pen-thrower that she needed to calm down because Dr. Lee is worth the wait. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because parking sucks and they really do need additional receptionist staffing. read more

Aetna PPO - open choice managed access specifically states you can self refer to a specialist. Dr Jennifer Lee and Linda Lee are both listed in Aetna's site as fully in network for this policy. Upon calling, I was treated exceptionally rudely by a secretary in their office named Christine. We spent 10 minutes going in a circle where I explained to her that I just moved to the area.. that I had documented history of arthritis and was on medication for that (which was running out.) I finally gave in and agreed to go to a PCP just to get a referral (which will cost me more money). I then asked when the earliest appointment would be and Christine told me that it would be next January (2 months out). This office clearly overbooks as indicated in other reviews. Although she used to be on top of things and you could tell she cared, now she has become very forgetful and seems like she is spread way too thin (Not someone you want managing your debilitating health problems). Sure, sometimes you have to wait because she DOES take her time with each patient that needs it on that particular visit. There have been many occasions that I did not have to wait very much at all.
