I called Alta View Sports Medicine and was able to schedule a new patient appointment within just a few days. I saw Dr. Sybrowsky and he spent a good amount of time with me, listening to my concerns and checking me out. He examined my knees and other area he was suspicious of for injury. He was very thorough and I was amazed he spent more than half an hour with me and took a lot of time explaining what was causing the issues, what it would mean, and how to treat the problem. He supplied me a couple of knee braces, lots of advice and care instructions, in addition to comfort and trust with him. Since then. I've had to see him to not only follow up with my knees, but more recently, a broken wrist obtained while mountain biking down from the top of Snowbird (by means of taking the tram up). Since the Dr and his staff are specialized, they offer a higher level of service and knowledge, that ends up leading to a better experience, treatment, and healing. I would definitely recommend Dr Sybrowsky and this practice to anyone I know who can utilize his talent. My only gripe with all of my experiences would be when I tried to schedule an immediate appointment, as quickly as possible, when I first broke my wrist. Since Dr S was booked up for the next few days, I asked if I could see someone else at the office, a different Dr. I was shocked when I was advised that once in their system and having seen a Dr, I can't see a different Dr at their office. Maybe there is a logical reason for this, but I thought it odd and somewhat inconvenient. His office is pretty good about getting appointments scheduled though, and it's convenient that he works out of 2 hospitals (Alta View & Lone Peak). His staff is awesome, but I prefer the staff at Alta View better; they're more friendly and professional.

Upon calling to schedule an appointment today, I was informed that I had a left over bill after my insurance coverage of $11.26 from last year. (I had honestly forgotten to send the payment while dealing with my injury and trying to run my business through it all) Anyway, they told me that I just needed to clear it up with collections and I could be seen...but, they failed to disclose a very important fact. After paying it immediately and calling their office back, the office manager got on the phone and informed me that because I had a balance that went to collections, even though it was paid, I would now be required to pay my total bill, including x-rays, etc. upfront at the time of the appointment and have my insurance reimburse me! She then went on to tell me that this had happened before, but after looking at my insurance transcripts, I found that THEY were at fault the 1st time for under charging me for my insurance co-pay. The transcript also shows that it was paid promptly when I went back in for my 6 week follow-up visit and I was informed of the office staff's error. There's no consideration for their patients with this policy...they obviously forget that we are all human and sometimes, life happens! If you search, you will also find a review from another that had this same treatment over a bill that was less then $2.00. As a business owner, I realize that it's important for everyone to pay their bills, on time, but their policies and disregard for honest human mistakes are over the top! "I will remember that I do not treat a fever chart, a cancerous growth, but a sick human being, whose illness may affect the person's family and economic stability. My responsibility includes these related problems, if I am to care adequately for the sick. I will prevent disease whenever I can, for prevention is preferable to cure. I will remember that I remain a member of society, with special obligations to all my fellow human beings, those sound of mind and body as well as the infirm."

Then he works with me to manage my pain and since I started going to his clinic I am finally stable. When I first started going to his clinic I was in so much pain from my fibromyalgia, and ruptured disks in my back that when Terri Clawson, the PA I was originally seeing, touched me to check the sensitivity of the pressure points I was flinching away, then by the time she was finished I was sobbing. Terri left a few years ago to start her own business and partially retire. I decided to stay with Dr Chen and Alta Pain Physicians for a couple of reasons. One being I liked everyone I had seen at the clinic. They were all understanding, kind, and were knowledgeable about managing pain. And secondly because I had already had my primary care physician, who was managing my pain, retire on me. I didn't want to go through that again, if I could help it. I had already gone through a horrible experience trying to find a new doctor / ain clinic to help me. This other pain clinic i was going to just before coming to Alta Pain Physicians was a horrendous experience and was part of the reason I was flaring so much and in so much pain when I first came to the clinic. I definitely didn't want to go through that again. After Terri left I started seeing Shane Green. He was terrific too. He was able to work with me and after I started working remotely I was feeling even better since I could lay down on my breaks if I needed to and I didn't have to drive 40 minutes one way to work & home each day, plus getting up early enough to dress up each morning and all of that nonsense when you need to wear business dress for work. I was able to decrease the medicine I was taking because of working from home. There wasn't a bunch of pressure to do this but I was feeling so much better and I felt it was time to try to decrease my pain medicine. I was able to decrease my pain meds by 50% Shane said. I don't know if it was that much but it was signific and Shane said he was really proud of me since I did that all in my own. But the clinic helped me to much that it was't really on my own. They sent me to do some physical therapy with Mountain Land physical therapy, they specialize in patients with fibromyalgia. I hadn't been able to do much physical therapy before because it made me hurt more due to my fibromyalgia problems. But they found this place that stated the specialize in these patients and they were good to their claims. During this time I also was afflicted with neuropathy because my B12 became so low. I had to do daily injections for a while. And this is something that never goes away once your afflicted with it. So even though I was feeling a lot better I still had issues that will probably be ongoing, probably lasting for the rest of my life. That is kind of depressing but I have been dealing with the fibromyalgia for about 20 years. So, I guess I'm kind of used to it and I am still doing much better!! Shane left the clinic about a year ago and I really miss him. But Dr Chen takes excellent care of me even with some of the PA's leaving. He understands where I am at and where I have been. He's a talented kind doctor! I have never known a doctor who when he gives you an injection and you flinch, he apologizes. But that's his nature. I appreciate all he has and continues to do for me!!

I sought an orthopedic specialist that was not just a surgeon but a physical therapist. I, too, arrived at the office and was given some x-rays that I never saw. The Dr. cut me off half way through my explanation of where the pain was and when I experienced the pain. I was given the choice of a cortisone injection or an MRI and CT. The cortisone shot, I was told, would be like stabbing in the dark because he really didn't know what was going on. I was there to figure it out so I went with the expensive scans. When they came back "inconclusive, but possible bone spurs" I went with the cortisone shot. Now the pain is worse and in a different area than the original pain. I went back to the chiropractor and feel so much better. This guy is too concerned with other things on his mind like his golf game or planning his next vacation to worry about listening to patients.
