I wanted to provide an update since the owner's response below does not reflect what has happened…read moresince my original review. The company stated that the waterproofing work was completed and documented. However, after that response was posted, new leaks continued to appear, including leaks in areas that had never leaked before. Additional damage occurred to my home, including hardwood flooring and interior finishes. The company also stated that it does not reinstall unsafe components. Yet I personally documented damaged and broken pillars being reused, and multiple workers told me they had objected to reusing them. Most importantly, the company has since involved its insurance carrier regarding the conditions and damages at my property. Their insurance consultant inspected my home on March 18, 2026. If the work was completed properly and there were no issues related to the project, I find it difficult to understand why an insurance claim was necessary in the first place. Since then, I have been repeatedly told to wait for the insurance process. Months have passed, no meaningful testing has been performed to determine the source of the continuing leaks, no repair plan has been provided, no leaking doors have been repaired or replaced, and the missing railings and pillars remain uninstalled. The most frustrating part is that my home is still left looking like an unfinished construction site while the company points to an ongoing insurance review as the reason for delay. I do not believe a homeowner should be expected to live with continuing damage and an incomplete project indefinitely while waiting for an insurance determination. I genuinely hoped this matter would be resolved after meetings with the company's ownership and licensing representative. Unfortunately, despite promises that things would move forward, very little has actually happened. I will continue to update this review as events unfold so that potential customers can make an informed decision.

From the very beginning, Chad was professional, knowledgeable, and never made us feel pressured when he came out to give us a bid. Throughout the entire project, communication was excellent. Mike was always easy to reach, answered every question we had, and kept everything running smoothly. Every single person who worked in our home was kind, respectful, and took great care of our property. It's clear they take pride in their work, and it shows in the final result. The craftsmanship exceeded our expectations, and the entire process was far less stressful than we anticipated. We've had quite a bit of work done on our home over the years, and Golden State Home Repair has been, without question, one of the best contractor we've worked with. Finding a company that's honest, communicative, and consistently delivers high-quality work is rare. We highly recommend Golden State Home Repair.

Front start to finish, Mike Gast and Juan Navarro worked with me to translate my vision into the bright open studio I have been dreaming of... As the project manager, Mike Gast was extremely patient and accommodating, and provided lots of feedback to solve various issues. This was a large project that involved removing the garage door, retrofitting 3 sets of doors, framing and finishing for a custom look, inside and out. They even installed special thresholds so we could be assured of being able to roll equipment in and out of the space easily. After each stage of the job, the crew cleaned up the area and removed all debris. The price quoted us initially was in line with competitors, better than several, who failed to follow up with us. There was no cost-creep, and we finished at the price quoted us. Progress and payment was tracked on their online job project site, which was an added benefit and inspired confidence. I can highly recommend Mastercraft and hope to use them in the near future for several other home improvement projects. (A special thanks to the team, Victor and Tony for their cleanliness and work ethic).

Contracted Modern Home Remodeling to remodel both of our bathrooms toward the end of 2019…read more Ray was great to work with and provided a lot of ideas for us to consider for our remodeling project. Main scope of the project involved a fairly straightforward gut of a hall bathroom, and a pretty major reconstruction of our master bathroom (custom shower stall, frameless shower door, walling up a window). Additionally, our master bathroom had a leaky shower stall that resulted in some really rotted joists, but Ray and his team also fixed that for us to provide us that peace of mind. The projected timeline was 7-10 days for each bathroom, and the project was completed well within that timeline. Throughout the process, Ray and his team were receptive to concerns we noticed and were quick to correct any glaring issues. Had I written this immediately after the job was completed, this review would have likely been 5 stars. But in the months since, there have been a few minor pain points that have popped up. For both of our bathroom sinks, water tends to pool and eventually runs away from the basin, off the countertop edge and onto the floor. And in one of the bathrooms, the new paint already began to blister and peel, which is a little disappointing to have happen just months after having everything redone. In summary, I think Ray and his team are absolutely skilled and do solid work. They work incredibly fast, which felt great in real time, but in hindsight, perhaps the tradeoff is a minor drop-off in quality.

One company was double the price so that was a no go, and one was slightly cheaper but rotten reviews. After checking them out and ensuring they had a valid license, we went with John Mafua of Kontiki. I managed facilities for school districts so I speak construction, and John answered everything with knowledge and respect. For example, I'm a stickler for doing the job right and not cutting corners; I asked about the wiring for the patio cover and he corrected said UF...he could have said the wrong type for outdoor use but he insisted on using proper outdoor-rated wire. From initial contact to the actual work, John was onsite daily. He even added a curb because it would break up the turf from the planter area better. I highly recommend Kontiki Construction for your concrete, turf and patio covers!

The guy is a real good talker but then he sends over workers who have no idea what they are doing. Then he ghosted us after we complained. When he first put in the turf he used about 5 pieces, then had to remove it because we saw all the piece work, looked really bad. Then he used a complete piece, but no underlining so now we have lots of weeds. The only positive thing I can say is if you have a really really small yard they can probably do ok. The neighbors had a small yard, not much. But I have heard the neighbor having to sweep after rains because of the drainage problem. So, we hired them and they messed up the turf area, redid it then never came back. We have cracks in the concrete, horrible drainage which leaves large puddles of water everywhere that dry and leave stains. No return to fix any problems after we paid them thousands of dollars. This company is a Hard NO. Horrible quality and very unprofessional.

Throughout the process, we felt pressured to proceed with the maximum financing available. We also did not receive a detailed cost breakdown from Ben and had to ask to speak to someone else. He told us many times "sorry, this is good as I can do, it's a bundle deal", which made us uncomfortable feeling like he was hiding prices from us. After obtaining additional estimates from other contractors, we were advised that several of the smaller handyman-type items included in the proposal appeared to be significantly overpriced. As a result, we requested that those items be removed from the scope of work. However, despite removing multiple services, the overall project cost remained essentially unchanged, which further raised concerns. We ultimately decided to limit the project to repairing our shower pan leak. At that point, Nathan informed that the company could no longer do business with us. Unfortunately, this left us feeling that the focus was more on maximizing the project value than on addressing our actual needs as customers. We value transparency, clear communication, and flexibility when making significant home improvement decisions, and our experience did not reflect those expectations.
