May the 4th be with you!

What is more appealing than walking into a Lego world? The children were drawn to this store like moths to a flame.....and I had no choice but to wonder with all three as we looked at every single crevice. It was pretty cool, as it was May 4 and the fourth was with us as we attempted to make awesome Star Wars microfighters. Prices are all comparable to what Legos are at places like Target, but the selection! Oh the selection! So many options to choose from! The store was very clean and put together. My children enjoyed themselves and that was all that mattered.

Located at Northbrook Court on the 2nd floor between Macy's and AMC Theatres, the Lego Store is a boutique for the renowned construction sets we all grew up with. I came here with my kids for a birthday party at the store. When I first got there, I didn't think of it as anything more than a shopping themed party, as there really wasn't a place for the adults to hang out and watch the kids playing. But then I got an idea... What if I made an airplane-like thingy with a propeller on top and some wheels, and these two fins. Before long, I was tinkering away on Legos with my two kids and helping them with their own creations. At a party like this, you can't just be a spectator. Two store employees ran the party. They had a dedicated Lego table for the 10 kids in attendance (and myself). No other parents tried their hand at Lego building, so either I'm a big kid or a cool parent. The Lego Store has a bright yellow floor which seems to give the whole place a glow inside. Round, clear bins on the back wall contain individual Lego pieces of a specific type and color. Around the sides, there are Lego play sets you can get, plus exhibits behind glass cases showing Lego masterpieces like a Space Shuttle or an AT-AT from Star Wars made out of hundreds of pieces. In the end, instead of the usual goodie bag, every kid got to make their own "Lego guy" and then fill a cardboard box about the size of a McDonald's Happy Meal box with Legos of their choice. These included all kinds of colorful bricks, wheels, hubs, pivots and oddities for making almost everything you can dream up. A fun place for kids - or adults who never forgot how much fun Lego building can be.

We cannot say enough good things about SMASH Toys…read more They took our order over the phone, then came in on a day they were closed so someone could pick it up. And as if that wasn't already incredible, they wrapped the gift for us, too. All of this was done with one simple goal in mind: to help make a kid's Christmas dream come true. Mission accomplished. Thanks to their kindness, flexibility, and genuine care, we are officially the coolest aunt and uncle on the planet, and that's a title we don't take lightly. This is what a local business looks like when it's run with heart. SMASH Toys didn't just sell a toy; they delivered joy, generosity, and a Christmas memory that will last forever. If you're shopping local and want service that goes so far above and beyond it feels unreal, this is the place. The Eagle Has Landed!

Walking into Smash Toys made me feel like Charlie in the Chocolate Factory and I had the Golden Ticket. Every toy I remembered as a kid is in here. You will be overwhelmed by the nostalgia of your youth. From old toys to new, Smash Toys has it all. But seriously Johnathan has a great shop filled with new toys everytime I have come in. The store is a awesome treat and I have a blast talking to him about the toys from the 80s... Also If you have toys to sell skip the ebay hassle and outrageous fees cause you will get a good deal on your stuff. Trust me I know. Don't give you money to a greedy corporation... And if you are from out of town make this a place to visit and take some time to relive the glory days we had as kids.

Sweet Holy Mother of Christ!!! DON"T PUT THAT IN HIS HANDS!!!…read more I hate this store with a passion. Stomping feet tantrum throwing kind of hate! This is the kind of store that every parent should avoid. Why? If you're a parent, or a kid at heart, you know exactly why I hate this store. They have every single kick ass toy under the sun...and yikes... the toys are also educational and beneficial to your child's development, and there is absolutely no way that you can walk out empty-handed. I think that my husband and I both had SUCKER stamped boldly on our foreheads. They have the full line of Melissa & Doug toys. I've never seen that many available anywhere. I am a sucker for their products. They also carry many vintage reproductions of toys that I had played with as a child. The store is neat, and easy to navigate and displayed well within your child's reach. Every shelf featured something to ooh and ahh about and brought back some really happy childhood memories. The staff? Grrr. Incredibly friendly. Too friendly, and too involved. So involved that they know how to close a deal! I would have been perfectly happy if they ignored me, because if they did, I wouldn't have spent so much money!! My son is always eager to make friends and their salesperson leapt at the opportunity. The two of them walked around like old friends, holding hands discussing the merits of various toys, while my husband and I trailed behind like hired help carrying his packages. He was in search of yet another replacement of his dancing "Puttin on the Ritz" skeleton. They didn't have it of course..but they did have a life size skeleton puzzle with all the parts named. And then that evil saleswoman..if she had a mustache and top hat...I could picture her rubbing her hands together smirking...places that box in my son's hand!!!! Pure torture I tell you! Once she did that ....it was sold! We ended up spending way more money in that store than I had anticipated....and my husband even bought a toy for himself. A vintage repro robot toy that he recognized from his youth. Besides the giant skeleton, we bought a ton of art supplies for his brand new art easel, and a magnifying glass because he wants to study bugs close up. We could barely carry all our purchases!

I went in looking for a gift for my friend's nieces. Rudest staff! Did not event greet me or offer…read moreany help of any kind. I would not recommend.

I wasn't sure I was going to buy anything - I'm generally on the lookout for gifts for the kidlets in our lives. The store is bright and easy to navigate. The displays seemed to be arranged by age, which was really helpful as I looked at things for four kids ranging from two to thirteen. And because the emphasis is on screen-free play and interactive play, I knew I would get the parents' seal of approval on anything I picked out. If I can get their faces away from a phone or Nintendo Switch, even for 30 minutes, I'll be aunt of the year! The staff were warm and friendly, asking me a few times if I needed any help. Before I knew it, I had some holiday gifts selected for the littlest friends in my life. They'll be pleased with the crayon rings and books and fidget toys, and I can be pleased that I was able to support a local shop in our community. I'm looking forward to coming back as the kids' interests and ages change. And, let's be honest, I had as much fun there as I expect the kids will.
