In addition to our daughter learning all aspects of hula, Tahitian, and poi balls, we as a family have learned to make hula costumes, hula implements, practice poi balls, and lei. Leiali`inani Polynesian Dance Academy is a excellent Dance Academy to learn Hula: Kahiko (ancient style of dance that uses chanting and traditional drums.) & `Auana ( modern, contemporary style of hula. Hula `auana is less formal and tells more modern stories.) You will learn and dance with the many implements that are used in Hula. As you are learning hula, you will be taught the Hawaiian words, their meaning of used each step as well as the meaning of each dance. This is a great school. Not only can the kids learn how to dance Hula and Tahitian, but as an adult, I also got to learn how to dance. I was also able to take a lei-making class. Recently, I was able to use this knowledge to make a Lei for my daughter's graduation and performance. Aloha! MAHALO to Hileka and her dancers for making my wedding anniversary an unforgettable experience for my family and guests. It started out with Hileka's good energy and willingness to help me plan my 20th wedding anniversary - I wanted a special show for the guests at my house. She booked dancers (I wish I can remember their names) to come perform. Everything was easy and on the night of the party they showed up prepared. The lovely dancers were willing to do what they can to make the best show - I had the idea of having them at two sides to have a sort of duet dancing. They were even willing to get on top of the waterfall to do a couple of solo dances. It was amazing! The night was spectacular, snd on top of their great performance they had some funny interactions with the guests, and got our pastors to dance with them. Aloha! Located on Valley View Avenue in a small shopping center across from Cypress College, once you enter you are transformed into a hula dancer in the Hawaiian Islands and gracefully instructed by Haleka. I purchased a groupon for $9 to take 5 hula fitness classes every Tuesday from 8:15pm - 9:15pm and Saturday 7:15am - 8:15am; well worth every omni and huli:) The hula fitness class which is open to anybody, but were mostly adult "wahines," had us feel every move accompanied by Hawaiian music from our finger tips to our hips right down to our toes. We learned basic hula dance moves and every part of our body was given a workout. We even got to do some floor work on the yoga mats (which were provided by the studio) and it engaged our bodies for both cardio and strengthening. If you want a workout to not only focus on your core muscles, but your body as a whole, then try this hula studio for either hula dance class or hula fitness class and your body will say mahalo:) read more

This is my second home and my ohana. I come here to hula and nurture myself. Our Kumu, Ms Hileka, is warm and very welcoming. She patiently and appropriately teaches auna and kahiko at all levels and different age groups. Her beautiful daughter, Ms Kalia, teaches Tahitian gracefully. Her fearless son, Kobe, teaches Siva Afi safely, with the kids. Additionally, she holds workshops and field trips to enhance our learning.
