Dang it Lancaster, you have everything and more, for us foodies. First time at Lemon Street Market, but was on my radar for quite some time. Wowee... this place has everything and lots to explore, though a tad pricey. I don't even know where to start and how to end, cause there's so much going on. There's interesting local produce (crazy looking mushrooms, colorful beets/carrots/gourds/squash, shallots, tumeric, onions, potatoes and much more). In the mood for something hot? LSM has a smallish coffee bar, with ample offerings. Their to go refrigerated section has vegan/gluten free offerings: salads, soups, bowls, sandwiches. Upstairs, takes you to every grain imaginable, spices galore, local cheese/dairy/meat/pickles, frozen goods, cereals, stocks, sauces, juices (too much to list and remember). Additionally, there's a laundry section (unscented products), aromatherapy and homemade gifts. read more

My wife and I love shopping at Lemon Street, it's our favorite small business grocery store here in Lancaster to support. Although the store has a relatively small footprint, there are a lot of selections (even for those who eat organic and/or have food allergies). Our car broke down in front of Lemon Street yesterday, and all of the workers we interacted with were more than kind and understanding. The manager even brought out jumper cables to help us get our car started. I imagine for being a small business with limited parking, and when our car didn't start, it was probably a bummer for one of the few parking spaces to be taken up. It took hours for a mechanic to get to us. But we were never rushed - one of the workers even after their work shift stopped by to check on us and wish us well. It was encouraging to have such a positive experience from a local business we love so much here in Lancaster. read more

Support small business. Plain and simple - small businesses are the heart and soul of any town. I enjoy coming here to get the items that I can't find elsewhere, or just some organic produce. Yes, you will pay for quality. They don't get the deep discounts that the huge mega chain grocery stores get - but they do pass it forward when they can. Some perks - fill your own container cleaning products, fantastic quick grab foods in the cooler, and a large amount of vegan selections. Only downfall - parking can be tricky and I've had some strange interactions with employees that made me uncomfortable. I'll still visit when I can. This is a fantastic little shop in the heart of Lancaster, PA. It's tucked away on Lemon St., and it is easy to miss. Especially with all the construction going on. I had to circle the block and come back around. From the outside, it's a rather unassuming presence in an obviously hanging neighborhood. As I stepped into the shop, it was initially underwhelming. But thankfully, I never let that deter me! I began to explore. The shop has a distinct Co-op feel, which I love. And considering it's a natural foods store, it seems fitting. Once you really start looking around, you see that size doesn't always matter - it's quality that counts. And Lemon St. Market certainly delivers on high quality goods. They have top selections of nearly everything! And a lot of fun, locally produced items - everything from raw milk and dairy to pastured meats to vegan goodies to handcrafted bath and product products. The staff was pleasant and helpful. I'm kinda amazed by the bad reviews for this market. The food is great, as is the selection - I grant you, the prices are a bit steep, but you're buying organic lemons grown by Norwegians and kept cool by an angel's wings: it's gonna be a few bucks more. What I'm most surprised about is the continual suggestion that the staff is unfriendly and unhelpful. I've only ever found the staff to be kind and forgiving of my ignorance. Whenever I've had a question, they've addressed it and explained why, for instance, I can't just eat 3 pounds of vegan cheese. That was good life advice. I think what makes people think they're being mishandled is simply that the staff treats people like adults: there isn't a coddling of you as a customer. You come in, and you explore the variety of unable-to-find-anywhere-else foods and ingredients. You make your decision, pay, and maybe slip a few extra pieces of extra dark chocolate into your order while your partner is looking wistfully at the organic ginger cookies. That's part of what I enjoy about the place: One isn't assigned a store helper as soon as you walk into the place. You don't have a forced interaction. You're left to discover, learn, and expand your palette. Everyone is welcome here - I've never felt otherwise. But maybe if you're looking for a group of people to stop making sure their product is as perfect as possible for the sake of explaining carrots to you for 15 minutes, you'd do better at a Giant. As for me, I'm thankful that there is someone nearby who can offer my home some really tasty, really healthy (or not, in the case of the 3 pounds of vegan cheese) options without the creepy Whole Foods vibe. read more

Sweet Ham Loaf Whipped Buttery Potatoes Cheesy Casseroles Creamed Corn Potato Bread Whoopie Pie's Diner's McDonalds Shmorgishborg Anything Fat, Meaty, Salty and full of SUGAR! Also known as.. "THE GOOD STUFF". Thank goodness I was a highly active & crazy energetic ADHD diagnosed child or I would have been a chunky little booger! We all ate the same thing and did our grocery shopping at the same places such as GIANT, WEIS, WALMART, COSTCO and STAUFFERS. Yes, Lancaster is a town full of Country Bumpkin Robots! Back in the OLD DAYS (12 years ago) there were no Health Food Markets or Organic Grocery Stores in Lancaster. At the time I was young and not aware of what I was putting into my body and the future health problems that would soon follow (Hypoglycemia). Lancaster was not exactly a role model for good health and diabetes was almost a normal thing in this town. Then one day a few people decided to make a change and stuff a loaf of Organic Gluten Free Bread into their mouths instead of Buttered White Potato Bread! ;-) A few Health Food Markets started to open up in the area and our small town of Lancaster started becoming "Hip"! CRAZINESS! In my opinion no other store can compete with Lemon Street Market in town. They are exactly the kind of place I would find and be a regular at in New York City or my old neighborhood in Brooklyn. This is a HUGE step for Lancaster and I am proud to support and be apart of it when I come back home to visit. I will never shop at Lemon Street Market ever again. Before the mask mandate came down in I went there to shop. There was a woman standing outside wearing a mask asking me to tie a dish towel they had sitting on a table outside store. Luckily I had a bandana with me because there was no way I was going to tie some towel around my face. Who knows where he had been or who had handled it. Once inside the store employees continue to squawk about social distancing. It's impossible to walk into the store and not walk close to people standing in line waiting to pay. I did a little shopping and realized the price of most of the things I wanted wear out astronomical and I was not about to pay that much money. A woman in the one of the Isles asked a man and I if we were together we told her no and she began yelling how we were too close to each other. I told her I was going to leave the store I was upset by her behavior. She began following me through the store screaming and yelling asking me what I wanted. My reply I just want to leave the store now over and over again I said I just want to leave the store and she stood there yelling at me. The cashier did his best to cash me out as quickly as possible. He was kind and understanding and told woman to just let me leave. Once outside the store I was confronted again by the same employee who asked me to tie a towel around face telling me how she's a nurse and the owners of the store take the recommendations of the CDC very seriously. I asked her repeatedly to leave me alone I didn't care about what the owners take seriously. I just wanted to be left alone and leave. She continue to berate me about laws and rules. At this point I was very overwhelmed by ridiculous ehavior. I cannot believe they can keep their store open with their employees acting like this. Like I said I will never return to the store ever again. read more

Great store, and theyve recently expanded and added lots of additional products. Great selection of bulk items, fresh baked items (mmmmm sesame honey crisp!), and locally made products (love hard-to-find Wills Valley crock sauerkraut!), and an extensive selection of frozen organic/natural meats and fish . Staff is friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable, and the store's very clean. I give this business 5 stars without reservation, BUT i do have two issues I wish could be improved upon: 1) Many items are pretty pricey--but that's often the case with high quality and/or organic products. Just wish it operated as a coop to lessen the costs for members. Having been a working member in two terrific natural food coops (in San Francisco and New Jersey), I think it would be a great win/win model to implement here. 2) The parking situation is terrible... very small lot of only THREE spaces plus 1 handicapped... Plus it's difficult to maneuver your car to get out. Street parking (very limited) is one's only other option. I had planned to shop here after work a few times, only to be unable to after scoping out the parking situation. If this was better, I'm sure their sales would increase. read more

This is Covoid-specific, but I love Lemon Street in the best of times as well. I won't go to Wegman's or Whole Foods at a time like this, because they're regional destinations and things could spread more easily in such places. In fact I'm not so keen on ANY stores these days. But Lemon Street Market feels safer than my house. Calm, peaceful, so intelligently outfitted to reduce transmission--a gloved attendant to open the door, gloves and hand sanitizer right inside the entrance, dots on the floor to keep you from getting too close to others, and filled with locally produced and grown foods to keep our community humming. It's good to see the Ten Thousand Villages POP-UP at Lemon Street Market - just launched yesterday! On the second floor landing in the back room. You may have heard that Lemon Street Market is different from other grocery stores. Well here is another way they are different. In any other grocery store or supermarket, customers always check the dates of dairy products before they buy them. It's what you do. No questions asked...that is, of course, unless you're in Lemon Street Market. There you are treated to an employee literally jumping out at you from another aisle to stop you and tell you that they want their customers to buy from the front. ... Um, since when is it about what THEY want you to buy? If they wish to infringe upon customers' rights to buy what they want to buy, I'll just exercise my right to NOT buy such items from them. Watch the Fresh Foods that you choose because some of them have already passed the safety time to cook them. Great place to shop. Staff runs hot and cold. Sandwiches made up till 3 p.m. Be careful of the sandwiches... because it seems that they put the old produce...no longer salable produce in the sandwiches Especially, good to remember if you're taking it out and not eating it in at a table. By the time you get home, it's too late and you realize you have dried vegetables and old vegetables in your sandwich. So, if you don't buy a sandwich, the place is good. They have coffee also, and homemade breads made by people in the community. It's worth going into just to look around. Then make your own decision. read more

Nice place, that used to have visible and friendly owners. Now it's just a bunch of extremely slow and grumpy hipsters. Prices are astronomical! I expect to pay a premium for these types of foods, but they are probably 25% higher than other places that carry the exact same items. Has anyone here EVER checked anyone out before? It's excruciating to watch sometimes, and a line of 6 people or more doesn't seem to envoke any sense of urgency what-so-ever. Hopefully, this will change for the better, but until some real competition comes into the area... I doubt it. :( read more

lemon street market just has an incredible amount of good stuff going for it. some of the highlights: on site cafe and juice bar, locally made bread, prepared foods made by local people, local/organic produce, many many local meat/egg/cheese products, a bulk food section, a fill your own container soap section, homemade soap/lotions, decent prices for all of the above mentioned items. they also have friendly staff and the location is great. very convenient to harrisburg pike. only complaint if i had to have one is i don't know if could come here alone with my child. they don't have carts and half of the store is up a small flight of steps. i don't think i could really get much shopping done! oh well it's probably for the best that dh would have to come or i would literally buy the whole store if left to my own devices :) read more

If you're too far away from Trader Joes or Wholefoods, this is the place to go. They have a decent selection for veggies, meats and fruits. The prices are bit more than what I pay for but for convenience's sake I guess it's not too bad. I still prefer a bigger and more standard supermarket but this isn't so bad as a place holder. read more

I have been here quite a few times and have found the customer service lacking and even unfriendly at times. My last visit there the check out girl barely made eye contact and I felt like she thought she was doing me a favor to check me out (no greeting, no small talk, no smile). I often do find what I'm looking for but anticipate I will be going to either Whole Foods and/or Wegmans to buy more of my groceries and organic/difficult to find food in one location. It's a shame because I do like to support local businesses but it's difficult to justify when your not treated well as a customer. read more

I've been to Lemon St Market many times to look around their store but ate at the cafe for the first time this past weekend. Their products are very expensive since most items are organic and some are local. I think of it more as a specialty food store since they have a lot of higher quality products and those that you might not find at your average grocery store. The cafe has some really interesting sounding paninis and sandwiches. We split two different paninis, the roast beef, cheddar, spinach, and horseradish mustard panini and the turkey panini with cinnamon almond butter, provolone cheese, spinach, and mushrooms both on their multigrain bread. Both I thought were very good, made with high quality ingredients with appropriate proportions except that I thought both the almond butter and mustard were too prominent and took over the flavors of the other ingredients in the sandwich. In other words, the mustard and almond butter were the main flavor that I tasted in the sandwich. I think maybe using half or less of the amount of each condiment would make the perfect proportions so you could taste all the ingredients equally and they're not masked by the condiment. I appreciated though that the panini was grilled to perfection, perfect browning and not oily/greasy/buttery at all, like so many paninis are. I think this place would also benefit from expanding to include more of a cafe atmosphere, adding more tables, ambiance, and items to the menu. Serving some type of chips or fruit/side with the sandwich would also be nice. read more

Kathy had lunch and did some shopping here when we were in Lancaster recently. She picked up my favorite coffee from Lancaster Coffee Roasters, homemade jams for the kids and had lunch. She really enjoyed the tuna cucumber sandwich. Hope to get back soon! read more
