Neither of us are fans of raw oysters, so I was really interested in what we would order. MC waited on us and did a phenomenal job of recommendations of items that were not raw. I wanted to try the Tea'D Up drink. It was beautifully blended and absolutely delicious. For my meal, I ordered the scallop tostada. It was so fresh and flavorful. My husband ordered the Reuben made with swordfish. I had a bite of it and it was also very good. We actually saved room for dessert and tried the fried peach pie. I would describe it as a really good peach cobbler empanada. It was served with a small scoop of sour cream vanilla sorbet. Hearing the sour cream part scared me just a tad, but it paired perfectly with the peach pie. I'd go back to Bayonet today! read more

I was particularly interested in the double with cheese with swordfish bacon. How does a tuna burger with cheese work? Pretty well I'd say. Think of it like a suped up filet-o-fish on steroids! But I did really enjoy this burger with fries and garlic aioli. The okra chaat was unique. Field pea and rice salad was tasty, but not anything special. I had a great dinner here and can't wait to try more of their menu when I return. Foodies (like myself) will enjoy this place, from the vibes to the details in decor, food, and service. And I express my thanks to my servers and bartenders, who were not only attentive in service, but also offered recommendations which led me to a great dining experience. In short, I had the following: -dry-aged Shima Ahi crudo ( flew in from Japan) -a Mordella sandwich, and -peach fried pie. My wine pairing for my dishes was a California Albariño, which was a great surprise. I'm now searching for this winemaker to add bottles to my cellar. Every dish I tried was my favorite in its own way. Each meal was well-balanced and highlighted the flavors of every ingredient. The mortadella sandwiches featured a playful twist with Cobia fish, and the house-made focaccia bread, where the mortadella and Cobia spread are nestled, was truly what focaccia dreams are made of. Plus the garlic aioli for the fries is money !!! And the peach fried hand pie was the perfect end to a great meal. The aromatics of caramelized glaze comes across like it might be super sweet. But when you bit into the flaky buttermilk pastry crust it gave it a warm, humble feeling with the perfectly diced peaches pie filling adding the right touch of sweetness. And as a special treat, this hand pie is paired with a sour cream-lemon sorbet which I didn't know I needed in my life that was refreshing. The peach fried pie is a seasonal dessert, so enjoy it while you can. Overall, the ambiance and music were spot on making it a vibe that you definitely want to come for dinner or just enjoy cocktails which looked really yummy( but that's for another time ). The unique decor, with a mix of midcentury meets fisherman lighting and a crowned octopus handles tap beer, was a lovely detail when you get to sit back and enjoy. Upon arriving, the dining room was a bit cool, so a light sweater might be a good idea. Our waitress was excellent--friendly, knowledgeable, and very familiar with the menu. She guided us through the oyster selection, and every variety we tried was fresh and tasty. The oysters were easily the highlight of the meal. The only downside was the exceptionally long wait between the oysters and our entrées. We ordered the snapper, tuna burger, and zucchini squash tart. All three dishes were well prepared and enjoyable, but none really stood out as particularly memorable. It was opened by a husband and wife couple, Chef Rob McDaniel and his wife Emily in 2025. As a James Beard Award nominated chef, there was good reason to expect a great meal even before the dinner. The presentation, creativity and focus on seasonality are standout features of Bayonet. Very bold dishes like the chive and caviar egg sandwich prove that the chef does not hesitate to go extreme. The Strawberry Wahoo was no less impressive, both in presentation and the genuinely unique combination. Staff are highly professional, bartenders Bradley and Miles are top notch pros of the industry. We had a very good meal overall and would definitely come back. The highlight of the night was the oysters--they were absolutely phenomenal. I ordered a variety of New England and local oysters, and every single one was fresh and delicious. The service was very good overall, but there was one hiccup. We ordered one of the bluefin tuna dishes and were accidentally served a different one. Ironically, we really enjoyed what they brought us, so we didn't realize the mistake until the next day while looking over the menu again. Looking back, we probably should have caught it when the check came, but at a Michelin-recommended restaurant, I also don't expect to be served the wrong dish. The bread service was fine. The fries were seasoned perfectly, and the aioli was excellent. The grouper roulade was another standout, the sauce was incredibly flavorful and really made the dish. The panko red snapper was very fresh, but it was a little bland for my taste. We were celebrating a birthday, and the restaurant surprised us with a delicious little ice cream sandwich cake, which was a really thoughtful touch and a great way to end the meal. My husband and I came here for a date night, and the service was unbelievably disappointing. The hostess was kind and had our drinks out quickly, but our server, Barry, introduced himself and then completely ignored us for the next 15 minutes while he attended to every other table, including one that was seated after us and received appetizers before he ever came back to take our order. A couple of the "burgers" and "reuben" and I had a fish (can't remember which) in a beurre blanc sauce. We tried the coconut creme pie and a lemon meringue for dessert. It was all quite good. As you enter this restaurant, you feel calm. The room's wide windows and beautiful decor create a fantastic vibe. We went for happy hour, which is a great deal - but get there early, it ends at 5. Service: Our server and every single member of the Bayonet Team was outstanding. A fine balance of knowledge, conversations and timing. My highest praise. Ambiance: Love the vibe of this place. The menu is limited, if you love raw Oysters this place has them. If you don't as I don't, you came to the wrong place. We order a large appetizer that had Oysters, Shrimp, mussels and a fish dip. Fresh yes, not to any of our tastes with the exception of my adult daughter who loves Oysters. The fish entry was both small and very expensive. I found it tasteless. My son liked the Fish burger and fries. The drinks were overpriced but fun to have your martini made table side. The deserts were the only highlight with a Coconut Cream Pie which I went back a week later to get two to go. Conclusion, Quality and service good; food underwhelming and needs some zip to it. We got The Situation and fries and it was really good. I love how the dish is prepared so that you can easily split it with a friend. This was our second experience at this fabulous new seafood restaurant opened by Chef Rob McDaniel, located right next to his fabulous, Helen! The service was impeccable and our server was incredibly knowledgeable. I enjoyed my first table side martini. Wow! Impressive and delicious!! We began with shareable plates including the Wahoo Beet Salad, a variety of gulf oysters on the half shell, my favorite was the Murder Point oysters. We also enjoyed the Royal Red Taquitos. Oysters are served with hot sauce and some type of vinegar in little dropper bottles. I had never seen this before! So cool and gives you more control over what you're putting on your oyster. The shaved horseradish was pretty mild for my taste, but delicious nonetheless. I came on their first Friday night open and was amazed by the turn-out and refinement of the overall service. The wine list is short but honestly made me realize that I do not want that many options. Only three red wine options, but seafood pairs with white. I had the trout entree and the lemony butter on top was to die for, and kale on the side was perfectly tart and moist and all the things. My buddy and I ended the meal with the pistachio cake. It's sitting on a bed of tart lemon cream and topped with a scoop of ice cream that perfectly breaks the tartness. The restaurant itself has bar seating in front of the oyster shuckers and along the bar. Seating is pretty limited, definitely smaller than Automatic Seafood, the oyster competition in town. Small but delicious. Should have gotten two. We shared a pastrami sandwich (fish version) and it was excellent. Split a bottle of wine. Can't remember the name, but it was one of cheaper reds. They served it slightly chilled which was spot on. For dessert, we had the coconut cream pie. It was ok. The place is pretty cool inside. The seafood bar at the back looked like the place to be. They have valet parking and there is a public deck across the street. The main reason most people go is for the oysters. As someone who will eat most anything, I just don't care for an oyster. [Out-of-Towner Review] Can't lie, I would not have expected this out of Bham! Bayonet was everything I didn't know I needed. It came highly recommended from a colleague and my other colleague was sold by their Instagram photos. This very aesthetic restaurant was worth the prices. We were able to walk in a on a weekday for a late lunch with no issue or reservation, but I can see needing a Resy if you come for dinner. I immediately saw the 'Fish Dip' under their 'Situations,' but I didn't want or need the full array of the situations plate. I asked if we could order it separately and the server confirmed we could. It came with kettle chips. It was fresh and had huge chunks of fish. I did find a huge bone, but no worries. I opted for the Tuna Burger, but asked for the whole grain mustard to be on the side. This juicy tuna burger was dreamy. It was like the very adult and elevated version of the Filet o Fish (this isn't a dig to Bayonet, I love a Filet o Fish).! It was so juicy and messy, ask for a couple napkins. The bun was so soft and the cheddar and lemon aioli were great flavor compliments for the sandwich. It's less on the adventurous side on the menu, but it was sooo good! And oh the fries. Absolutely n complaints here and I loved the dipping aioli for them. I never did use the mustard on the side. And, I ended the meal with their Coconut Crème Pie. This dessert has to be top FIVE coconut crème pies I've ever had. The coconut cream was perfect, not overwehelming. The crème to crust ratio was also well done and I loved all the toasted coconut surrounding the personal size pie! Literally everything I tasted was delicious. Absolutely no complaints from me. And the service was awesome. The aesthetic was just an added bonus and I'm so happy Bayonet found its home in Birmingham. Birmingham deserves something this delicious! read more
