Great selection of stores, the traffic to and from doesn't disrupt the local streets too much (they close off the entrance/exit by the church on Sunday mornings) and the parking is, well, not the worst. Helps if you make use of the entrance behind Lowe's and Target. Lowe's, Target, Kroger, Barnes & Noble, UPS, Five Guys, Best Buy: all places I shop. Major downside is some criminal activity that occurred in the below-ground parking structure recently. Hopefully, Atlanta's finest (who maintain a presence) and contract security have that in hand now.

The Edgewood Retail District is a big shopping center located just south of Little Five Points in…read moreeclectic Edgewood. It's the only large-scale shopping center of its type in the neighborhood and unlike almost any other development in the surrounding area because it's so suburban-like. The development opened in 2005, the same year as Atlantic Station in Midtown, around the peak of the last construction boom. About a decade old now, this shopping center is still in good shape. It's relatively nice and clean. There are multiple buildings, all made of brick, and plenty of parking including an underground garage. On weekends, it gets slammed, especially around Target. During peak periods, traffic on Moreland entering and exiting the property can test one's patience. Alternate routes include taking Caroline St. or even Hardee St. at the far south end of the district. Major tenants here include the aforementioned Target, Barnes & Noble, Bed Bath & Beyond, Office Depot, Best Buy, Lowe's, Kroger, and Ross. Several local/regional restaurant chains include American Deli, Figo, Willy's, Five Guys, Ru San's, Shane's Rib Shack, and Uncle Maddio's Pizza Joint. Most of the retail and dining options feel run-of-the-mill and generic, though there are a few highlights. They include the beehive, which is a boutique store filled with local, handmade items (apparel, accessories, housewares, jewelry, etc.) and Morelli's Gourmet Ice Cream (2nd location). I prefer the Morelli's in Edgewood over the original Morelli's nearby in Ormewood Park because it has the same great ice cream except indoors with more seating and air conditioning. While sprawling, the shopping center is very walkable with wide, evenly paved sidewalks. It's within 10 to 15-minute walking distances of two MARTA rail stations: the Inman Park-Reynoldstown station and the Edgewood-Candler Park station. Edgewood Retail District is a very practical/functional shopping center. It'd be nice to see more variety and uniqueness when it comes to tenants (less chains), especially considering this development is intown. However overall, it is A-OK. My only gripe with this shopping center, and it's a major one, is the lack of safety. That's the main reason for my two-star rating. In the last year or two, there have been brazen, violent crimes committed in the parking lot and in the parking garage. The physical assaults and/or robberies have occurred both at night and in broad daylight. The property owners/management need to do a much better job with the security around here.

On its surface, it looks like just another big box shopping center. However, it's smartly planned and has brought a lot of convenience to the neighborhood including one of Atlanta's rare Walmart stores within city limits. The District at Howell Mill opened in fall 2006, about a year after nearby Atlantic Station opened, so the two mixed-use developments are the same generation. The District is far smaller and less unique, but it still packs a punch. At the time of writing this review, some of the big name retail tenants include: * GameStop * Office Depot * Petsmart * TJ Maxx * Ulta * Verizon * Walmart And some of the restaurant/cafe tenants include: * Extreme Teriyaki * La Parrilla * Starbucks * Subway * Which Wich The lineup is filled with chains which is hardly exciting stuff, but it's much better than what was here before which was nothing. As a homeowner in Atlantic Station, which has a Publix and a Target within short walking distance of my home, I still find myself regularly coming to The District (Walmart) to get groceries and household supplies because of better prices, selection, and convenience (one-stop shopping). Surprisingly, I've found the produce at Walmart to be consistently stocked and fresh. Aesthetically speaking, the shopping center is nicely designed. It's well-integrated into the neighborhood and not imposing. Instead of large, freestanding, cookie-cutter buildings with huge asphalt lots, which are a dime a dozen in the suburbs, The District conceals its big box retailers (e.g. Walmart, TJ Maxx, Ulta) from street view. There's multilevel parking and it's plentiful. I haven't been to another Walmart that offers covered parking. Over the years, the property has been maintained and has held up well. I've been a customer to several of the businesses at The District and have generally been satisfied. My favorite optometrist, Dr. Kim Raharja, works at the Atlanta Eye Center (inside the Walmart) on-site. I've also known and visited folks who live (or have lived) at the Alexander at the District apartment community, also on-site. The apartments seemed fine. The District is located right next to I-75 at Howell Mill Road (exit 252B).

The bread was so hard and crunchy that when I bit into it the pieces nearby began to crumble!!! I also put "extra honey mustard and mayo" in the special request box... there wasn't either on the sub at all!!! I was so disappointed. Except for Subway, I think all of the restaurant tenants have completely turned over in the past two decades. This isn't a nice shopping center nor has it ever really been, but some improvements have been made over the last several years such as a complete repaving of the parking lot and renovations to all the storefronts. The relatively new tenant mix, which includes businesses such as Bao Bun Cafe and Newk's Eatery, have been welcome additions too. Howell Mill Square is in a high-traffic area just off the interstate (I-75) and not far from Midtown, Georgia Tech, Atlantic Station, Westside, and Buckhead. I was interested in checking out that store, but of course I had to check out the entire space. I parked near the nail salon (it appears this is the anchor of the space) . I was able to find a parking spot with no problem, however, I am not sure if there is additional parking for when this place is no longer a hidden gem. This mix use space is cute and such an amazing idea. I was surprised that there were not more patrons supporting this place! I did read that the original purpose of the space is to meet the needs of residents that reside in Southeast Atlanta. The long term goal is to become more accessible once the MARTA rapid line opens. It was freshly prepared and it was beautifully presented. The flavors were great. I don't know much about Ethiopian cuisine but I want more! I like you can ask for no spice or try some spice. Both restaurants have us enough food to feel satisfied. We will come back in a few months to see all the other options. There is a small play area for kids. It's fenced in but feels too close to a road. There's an entrance to South Terminal right next to this area and I wouldn't feel safe with my little one being that close to an exit.

This event was a fantastic way to support the community while enjoying an evening of shopping, tasting, and discovering local businesses. More than 30 Black-owned small businesses showcased their products and services, offering everything from unique gifts and handmade items to delicious treats and lifestyle products. I found a few goodies for family and friends and, of course, a couple for myself too! The Black Wine & Spirits Festival added to the fun with tastings and a lively atmosphere. It was great meeting vendors, learning their stories, and supporting small businesses that are making a difference in the community. The venue on the 15th floor of the Towers at Uptown Atlanta provided beautiful views and plenty of space to browse. Overall, this was a well-organized event filled with positive energy, great shopping, and community spirit. Looking forward to attending again next year!
