An uninformed patient cannot provide proper consent. Had I known that I would be in excruciating pain for more than a week, unable to move facial muscles, chew properly, ambulate, shower without tears, speak without pain, or sleep a night without waking up in pain, I would not have consented to this surgery. Only after a call to the office a week later did I learn that the scalp is complicated and presents these issues. I was never told to expect to miss days from work, and was assured that there are not a lot of nerves on the scalp and that it would not be painful. Even when the scalp was being pulled and stitched, and I directly asked, "this really feels like it will hurt a lot later, what can I expect?" I was assured that it would not. Be your own advocate. Get another opinion.

Last year they started a practice of canceling your appointment if they don't have the referral in hand a few days before. My PCP sent referrals and NE Derm kept misfiling them. It took 6 months and many many phone calls before they figured out their mistake. This year they called me the week before to say that they didn't have the referral from the PCP but I could keep my appointment if I paid $159.... Un.be.lievable. They assured me I'd get the $ back once insurance comes through. A security deposit on a medical appointment?! The Springfield office in particular is particularly bad. Every person I dealt with in the registration area was outright rude or unhelpful. But the checkout staff are the friendliest people you'll meet. The practice has just become a factory. It's more important to them to simplify the paperwork than to get patients in for care. But once you're in, they'll be lovely. Until the next appointment...

I wanted Retin-A and she prescribed it to me which I thought was amazing because all the places I have seen in Massachusetts just brush me off and don't prescribe me what I want. I did like how the skin exam is part of the appointment so I didn't even need to pay extra like at New England Dermatology & Laser Center. If you decide to get any mole removals here, it's $250 per each mole. At New England Dermatology & Laser Center, they charge way too much for being an established patient, mole removals, etc. You are better off at going to Demo's Dermatology. This place is much better.

She also directly contradicted my doctor's advice by recommended things that he SPECIFICALLY told me not to do, and said "that's what I have to do if I want results for my acne." On top of all of this, there is no privacy in the office and I could hear the entire conversation of the patient that went before me as I sat in the waiting room. I will stick with my doctor at the Dermatology and Laser center, but will not be returning to the Skin Wellness Center. Really unprofessional.
