If I could leave 10 stars, I would! GRATEFUL for the experience at Leo & Sons. I failed emission inspection on my 14 year old Lexus Is250 (not hybrid) due to ongoing lean code issues. The check engine light had been on for approx a year with intermittent start issues (after every fill-up at gas pump, the car would not start until the third or fourth try). I had been to two mechanics who despite their efforts, the issue persisted. Running out of time on my failed inspection, I went to the dealership with expectation that they would at least be able to diagnose the problem (spoiler: not only did they fail to identify cause, their costly recommendation was for front to back replacement of exhaust + all oxygen sensors at would have been an astronomical cost). Out of options, I contacted MAC for advice/possible waiver, and they recommended I get in touch with Matt at Leo & Sons....within hours of bringing my car to Lawrence, I had a detailed diagnosis report explaining everything Matt found (photos, videos, data) with the recommendation to replace the purge valve. They had ready access the replacement part, and I had my fixed car back the next day!!! My engine light has remained off, my car passed emission inspection, and NO issue starting car after filling up the tank. Before going to Leo & Sons, I was incredibly frustrated thinking I needed a new car; thankfully I was pointed Matt's way and found Leo & Sons to be a highly professional, skilled shop. I wish I had found them sooner to save a lot of time, money, and aggravation, and I cannot recommend Matt/Leo & Sons enough. This is truly a wonderful auto repair shop. I found them through Yelp and had my 2010 Lexus hybrid evaluation done as my car has 156K on it and I am not sure when I will need new hybrid batteries replaced. Matt was extremely thorough and friendly and Leo (father) is also very nice. Matt went over my need for the car and assure me that the batteries are doing fine. I need this car to last another 3 years until my son finishes grad school, now I know what I need to do. Will never do business with again. Failed my inspection for a "worn" tire. Went and got all 4 replaced and when I went back got the door closed in my face because they were done for the day, with 20 minutes before their posted closing time of 5pm. All they had to do was look at tie and give me sticker. Instead I have to miss work and go back another day. read more

There are several relationships with your car: the dealer, where you gas up and your mechanic. I loved the people at Saturn of Haverhill, my Mobil station is terrific and I have my car repaired no whe re else but Leo and Son. I get quality service at what I think is a fair price and it is done professionally and quickly. My schedule is their schedule and when I ask opinion, I get honest answers. I went here for an oil change and to check my fluids, a couple weeks ago, and I was very happy with the mechanic's service and their price. I also appreciated that their personnel were all wearing masks (this is during COVID pandemic, and a different local mechanic/car service place where I drove to get gas & considered making an oil change appt did not have staff wearing masks!). They didn't push any extra work/replacements (like Jiffy Lube & Valvoline always do), but they did let me know I might want to consider getting some part (don't remember what--it's all Greek to me) updated at my next oil change. Whomever the guy was who answered the phone was a little gruff when I called on short notice to say I wouldn't be on-time for my oil change appt and asked to come a couple hrs later. But, it was great that they could still accommodate me (this is a sort of smaller place with only 2 garages/bays). I would come back here, for mechanic work in the future! read more

Amazing! I thought that my Prius was dead because the battery went at 260K miles. Nope! They replaced only one of the cells, rebalanced the full battery pack and my car runs like the day I got it. My wife had gotten 297K miles on her Gen 1 before her battery died and she reluctantly trashed the car at that point. How awesome that I can have my car running again after the red triangle of death. I would like to comment on my experience with Leo and Sons. It was awesome on many levels. First, my story. My daughter drives an older Lexus hybrid SUV. After returning from a trip, the car showed warnings about the hybrid battery. To make a story short, it was towed to a dealer who analyzed it and contacted me with an estimate of over $6000. It was to replace the hybrid battery. The dealer suggested this was more than the car was worth (120K mileage), so, I could dispose of the car more easily by purchasing a replacement off their lot - otherwise there was disposal costs. I contacted Leo and Son's. Mathew explained that he might have options that a dealer might be hesitant to suggest. Based on the positive Yelp comments about this garage's integrity, I had it towed to them. They charged a diagnostic fee if $150. Mathew removed the rear seats and found the reason for the check engine warnings that would not allow the car to start. It was some sort of leakage/spill onto the battery. He sent me a photo. He said the spill had now evaporated and reset the codes and suggested a $30 battery seal. Car was fixed. So, for what a dealer said was a scrap heap or greater than $6000 battery replacement, my daughter did not have to buy a new car, just a $180 charge for analysis by a skilled technician. The car has been just fine for a couple weeks now with no recurrences (that's why I delayed my Yelp review - to make sure it was accurate). Mathew also sent a couple of photos of filters that needed changing (and they really did) and that was reasonably taken care of as well. For me, Leo and Son's is not really close by, but, my experience with the was over the top positive. I loved the integrity, the email process they have to explain what they found, include photos, and request authorization of additional shop work online. Very modern, skilled, and honest! read more

Stands behind their work, above and beyond. Great customer service! On the way home to Southern NJ from Maine, the engine of of our 2009 Subaru had a catastrophic failure on Interstate 426. AAA was very quick in swooping up the car and the 3 of us. AAA deposited us and the car at Leo & Sons. Leo and Matt took us right in and determine that the engine was not repairable. Weighing our options after consulting our mechanic back home we decided to have Leo & Sons install a remanufactured engine and we would rent a car to get home. Leo helped us locate a rental car which wasn't easy because in was Patriots Day, a MA holiday. Leo then drove us to the Manchester airport to pick up the rental car. After the work was completed my wife and I drove the rental car back to Lawrence, over a 5hr drive. Once we got home and after having the oil changed within the mandatory 600 mile interval, the check engine light came on. Our local mechanic attempted to diagnose the cause of the check engine light and to deal with the engine warranty company. We even took the car to the Subaru dealer which confirmed the fault code but refused to get involved because Subaru did not perform the original work. All during this period, Leo stayed in contact with us and our mechanic. To try to resolve the problem Leo & Sons made arrangements to have the car towed from our mechanic to a local repair facility that had more sophisticated diagnostic equipment and expertise. After considerable time and effort it was determined that the remanufactured engine was performing properly and that the fault code was more likely a software issue. Leo & Sons covered all the cost, over $1,800! Can't say enough praise about how Leo and Matt took care of us. read more

I just had quite an amazing experience with Leo & son Matt. Brought my 2003 LandRover in and ask they solve the check engine light problem and that they do a couple of other things. Late in the afternoon Leo called and took 15 minutes explaining the frustration they had in diagnoising the problem. Their computer read out did not make any sense. They tried other devices they had with no luck. Spent more than 3 hours and felt badly they did not determine the problem. When I went to pick up the car I was greeted by son Matt who apologized for not figuring things out. When I asked what the cost would be they said no cost. I insisted in giving them some money. Matt refused to take any....after spending 3 or more hours on the car!!! Another local place tried and failed and charged me more than $300! last year. So, I left feeling these are the most honest and in view view quite capable mechanics you could find anywhere. The LandRover dealer will now take me to the cleaners. After struggling to find a good and honest mechanic for years I finally came across this shop. My first job I asked them to do was a big one and they got it done pretty quick and they did it right. I haven't gone to another shop since. One time I asked them to install control arms on my car and when the shop owner examined them he told me that I didn't need control arms at that time and it would be better to wait... I really appreciate their honesty. Most mechanics would install control arms and tell you that your car needed ten other things. These guys run an HONEST business. I wouldn't go anywhere else for auto repairs. You won't find better mechanics around. These guys have been in business for many years and they are very experienced. I trust them with everything from electronic issues to brakes, tires and suspension. There is nothing I wouldn't trust this place with. They have fixed unique electrical problems with my car that I thought I'd never figure out. This is one of the best businesses in the Merrimack Valley. read more
