they are not what they seem to be. major red flag when I walked in. there was no greeting whatsoever. i went to get an alignment by this family owned company. seems good but then had worst issues the next day. my new tire got a slow leak to the point it goes flat every 2-3 hrs. My alignm got worst. They gave me the wrong paper for alignment results. Had a different type model car than what they had on paper. Yet of all. I payed them money and they gave me no invoice. They're taking money from good people. Highly recommend people to NOT GO THERE If you value your car and money. Stay woke. read more

I stumbled upon Ray's by a stroke of luck, and I'm very happy I did! I entrusted Ray and his crew with my 1977 Corvette, and there's no doubt she was in great hands. Ray is meticulous in his work, honest, communicative, and very fairly priced. Ray took the time to ensure he knew exactly what he was doing before he dove into a project on my car, which even meant cracking open a book or two. I really appreciated this attention to detail and willingness to go above and beyond. He was very honest and up front about the cost of work, and which fixes were worth doing, and which were not worth the money (i.e. the cost of fixing very minor leaks in a 43 year old car). He called me every step of the way to explain the work that had been done and to let me know proposed next steps. He always ACCURATELY priced out work and confirmed with me before proceeding. Positive: Professionalism, Quality, Value Ray's did a great job for us last week. My daughter put diesel in her gas tank and we had the car towed to Ray's. The owner Ray called numerous times to follow up and they found a really creative solution to getting the gas out of the tank which saved us hundreds of dollars in repair cost. While it was there they also did a super job on her brakes. I've been looking for a garage that I could trust and I've finally found one. Just had a great car repair experience with an honest repairman. This is where I'll be taking my car for now on. I woke in the morning to find a huge oil spill under my car. I had it towed to Ray's at AAA's recommendation (I'm new to the area and hadn't needed a local mechanic yet) and after talking to Ray himself. True to his word, he had it up on the lift and diagnosed in under an hour. Rather than the many nightmarish things that could have gone wrong (even a leaky seal can be a lot of labor on this vehicle), it turned out to be nothing more than a loose drain plug from an oil change 3 weeks ago (not done here). By the time Ray called me, the car was repaired, he ran it a bit to make sure there was nothing else wrong, checked out the rest of the car, and was ready for me to pick it up, free of charge! Granted no parts were consumed, but he did put his time and equipment toward the diagnosis. A dealer would charge ~$100 for that alone! read more

Avoid this place at all costs!! I brought my car is for a bad o2 sensor and my battery kept dying. They had the car for over a month and fixed a serpentine belt and my right tire axle....neither of which needed to be replaced and neither of which I told them to do. They put on four new tires which I brought in because they're tire prices were ridiculous. I really just needed an inspection sticker which they said they would do but didn't. Also they allegedly changed my oil which they did not because a couple weeks later I brought my car into to the new mechanic I switched to because it was bucking and they checked the oil which had not been changed by the other garage even though I was charged a ridiculous amount for changing it. I could have blown out my motor!! They ripped me off and did not do the work that I paid for. Will never go here again and recommend no one else does either. read more

I was traveling from the Berkshires up to Maine, and ran into some serious car trouble right in the middle of my journey. Pulled off the hwy and called AAA who towed me to Ray's Automotive. Though it was a few minutes before closing for the night, Ray and senior mechanic Mike helped me locate a hotel with a vacancy (I know no one in the area). Mike even volunteered to drive me there, seeing that I was an exhausted 64 yr old woman who had had a stressful day. The next morning I was able to pick up my car and drive back home to my local mechanic. Ray and Mike were professional, knowledgeable, and KIND. I felt I could trust them to be fair with me, an older woman who, let's face it...knows very little about car engines. I recently had my car towed to Ray's Automotive through Triple A when my (unknown at the time) transmission decided to blow in Lowell. It was after hours, about ~7PM, and I was told by Triple A I could give them a call in the morning. They performed the preliminary inspection of what was wrong (new transmission and passenger side axle) and quoted me around $2k with parts and labor at 9AM the next morning. My car was a 97 Honda Civic. Not only was this a reasonable price, they were prompt with the inspection, and very cordial. Since I couldn't decide if I wanted to spend that kind of money on a 16 year old car, they were kind enough to let me leave it on their lot at no charge from Tuesday night when it was towed, until Friday morning when I was finally able to make up my mind. They had offered to junk it for me, as well. When I decided to have the car towed off their lot to my residence, they did all the work for me. I arrived home after work (since I have been commuting and couldn't get a ride to the shop or a towing company) and allowed me to pay over the phone. While I have not personally had my car repaired there, they were on point with customer service, options, and convenience. They were willing to work with me and my indecision, and never once did I hear any frustration on the other end of the phone considering my dead weight car was stuck on their lot for almost 4 days. They try to accommodate me as much as possible and have been very flexible with scheduling service appointments. The quality of work has been great. I have owned domestic, Japanese and German cars in the past few years and they have serviced and repair all of them. I had one minor problem and Ray owned up to it it fixed it right away. 5 stars isn't enough for the amazing service you get at Rays. A recalled part on my truck broke and it needed to be towed to a repair shop. I called the dealer near me and they refused to honor the warranty (pretty cool of them) after calling all the shops in my area it was recommended I call Ray. I live about 45 minutes away from Lowell so it wasn't a cheap tow but I needed my truck fixed. Ray always picks up the phone after one ring and was always pleasant and helpful. The dealership near him refused to sell the parts needed, but he convinced them to honor the warranty because he didn't feel good charging me to fabricate the part, which would have been significantly more expensive. He allowed me to keep my truck on his lot for a week, until the dealership would accept it, and he didn't charge me a penny! If I lived closer this would be the only shop I'd go to, Ray is a gentleman and a professional and I cannot recommend him enough. read more

Never again will I bring another car to Rays..Not even a year ago I brought my suv in to fix in order to get a sticker....That sticker ended up costing 2,000 dollars...They did all kinds of work that wasn't needed for a sticker..They replaced my brakes and didn't do it right..The whole front brake blew out, brought it back , replaced with used parts... Told me the rear axle had to be fixed because it was leaking oil, well i took it to someone I actually trust and they told me it was still leaking, as it my engine oil..To top it off once I got the truck back the abs light went on as did my 4 wheel drive light....There work is overpriced. I wouldn't tell my worst enemy to go there...Personally for me I don't have the luxury of just handing thousands of dollars over to someone, hey call me crazy but I actually want the work done right, the first time around....Needless to say have to replace the car, it would cost me more to fix their mistakes... read more

I have never met such an honest and fair mechanic like Ray. My car broke down on Rt 495 and Triple A towed it to Rays as my daughter and I rode with the tow truck. I told Ray to just take a look at it and give me an estimate as my car was tipping almost 300 thousand miles. He stopped doing what he was doing and checked out my car right there and then. Told me my timing belt was shot and with that many miles on the car he recommended I shop around for another car. He let me leave it in his very small lot until I could get it towed or donated. I found a place that would have give me a couple hundred dollars for it, so I went back and gave the title to (Rays brother). When the company came to tow it away they told Ray the title was not filled out correctly and they would not take the car. Ray called me and said he would get rid of the car for me. My car was on his lot for a total of one week and he never charged me for looking at the car or a storage fee or to get it towed away. Before going there I was so worried that being a female and living out of state that I was going to get ripped off. I live in NH but will always take my next car to Rays for all my service needs.
