My family and I were hoping to have our day in court after my father died after bilateral knee replacements one month to the date of surgery. this surgeon did not follow normal, gold standard of care post operative to prevent Deep VeinThrombosis after joint replacement. My father had a friend that this doctor had performed unilateral hip replacement (successfully) and that is reason he went to Meade instead of relying on a friend and top orthopedist for most orthopedic surgery needs. Dr Andrew is a top ranked orthopedic surgeon among college and professional league players. I am a physician assistant (PA) with first 2 years working for orthopedic group in Atlanta and then as a PA in emergency medicine. I was not present for my father's surgery, due to non-elective medical issues of his bilateral knee replacement. My mother and father divorced when I was 4 yo and my mother moved back to Virginia. My mother fell getting out of the shower and his the right rib cage area. Though urgent care provider impression of X-ray was normal, the radiologist who read film a few days letter saw a mass in her lungs that was suspicious for lung cancer. My mother asked me to be there for procedure to cut out a small portion of lung area for a biopsy. The night following the procedure, my mother became very short of breath. I took her to the ER and she was newly diagnosed after X-rays of Congestive Heart Failure. She was moved to cardiac intensive care unit for 5 days. meanwhile back in Naples, my father was to be discharged 5 days post-op but was running a fever. They performed plain X-ray and CT scan of chest and was noted to have numerous bilateral pulmonary emboli (PE). Having been the medical provider who wrote post-op orders on patients after joint replacement, it never crossed my mind that a surgeon would not order the gold standard of care. Gold standard of care is to be started immediately after surgery completed and includes pneumatic compression hose and start of heparin and Coumadin. Heparin is given as it instantly thins blood to prevent clots while oral coumadin takes up to 10 days to thin blood adequate to prevent blood clots. . Meade only started my father on coumadin. Pre operative tests ordered before surgery included a chest X-ray that indicated my father had chronic Pulmonary Fibrosis (CPF)! Meade told the woman who had referred my father to him to evaluate for surgery that if he (Dr Meade) had known my father had (CPF) that he would only have done 1 knee replacement at a time. I saw the radiology report on pre-op chest X-ray which stated my father had (CPF)! It was there. It had been ordered pre-op and results sent to doctor prior to surgery. my father had much difficulty after the caustic blood from multiple (PE) throughout his lung turned his (CPF) to Acute Pulmonary Fibrosis (APF). My father was medically evacuated by plane to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN- where he spent a week semi-annually for executive yearly medical evaluation. steroids is the only medicine that can, but does't always reverse the acute (PF) back to chronic (PF). It did not work for my father who died exactly one month after surgery. OUR finding out why our father had (PE) post-op day 5 was due to Meade not ordering the gold standard of care to prevent deep vein thrombosis that became multiple pulmonary emboli, I was ready to hire an attorney to bring lawsuit to Meade for malpractice/negligence. He told my father's friend that he (Meade) had been placed on pneumatic compression hose and he swore to never do that to a patient. His apparent lack of understanding why these specific orders are written, along with need for heparin till coumadin level is therapeutic level for thinning blood....both to prevent DVT and Pulmonary Emboli! My father was an active 70 year old. He played golf regularly, walked the beach daily and was only looking to be pain free during activities. because Florida law states that a doctor can only be sued for malpractice if patient issues a lawsuit. Since my father was now deceased, Florida law continues. A patient's proxy in case of death CAN ONLY BE BROUGHT if patient is married at time/date of surgery and/or has children 25 years or younger. My father wasn't married and his children were over age of 25. This surgeon left our family no forum to prove that Meade allegedly committed gross negligence and malpractice resulting in my father's death. All of you single patients with children all over 25 yo....in the 'RETIREMENT STATE;...of Florida please beware. The law is still on the books. read more

It has been a week since my knee surgery (torn meniscus). At my appointment before the surgery I asked Dr. Mead if I needed to bring crutches or anything he said "no you will be able to walk out." Well he was telling the truth. I walked out with no pain. This morning I went for a 12 mile bike ride to test it out, still no pain. Can't get any better than that. Terrible: rude, egotistical , poor patient physician skills. Felt a pop in my left hip that was was not a bone fracture. It was cartilage, a ligament or a torn tendon. X-ray was for bone and had to request an mri. I know my body. X-ray I was told was clean. Choice of gut it out, stem cell $3,500.00 (retired), PT or cut. Cut what there was nothing wrong. Did PT no improvement after two months. Went back to playing softball in pain. During season game fell on the hip twice in the same game. Finished season and went back to Dr. Mead and after pretty heated discussion coded it as bursa removal. It wasn't the bursa but a torn tendon that he repaired and reattached. Remember nothing wrong. Followed his recovery instructions but a year later still hurts. Gave me a tube of anti-inflammatory cream and said he could do nothing more. Did a second opinion in Pittsburgh found arthritis, tendon repair still in place but forgot to tell me about torn labrum and cyst on my hip causing an impingement. Went to Dr Mead due to severe pain in right knee. After consultations Dr Mead suggested stem cell regeneration. The operation was on 1/21/2016. 4 years ago, Dr. Mead replaced my left hip. After years of not being able to walk any distance without pain, being able to walk pain free was amazing. Then my right hip started down the same path, and again I could not walk any distance without pain. A year ago Dr. Mead replaced my right hip and now I am able to walk, golf, swim and participate in gentle aerobics all without pain. If I could give him a zero I would. He sent my 82 year old mother to physiotherapy to strengthen the muscles around her knee. The physiotherapist had my mother go on a trampoline where she promptly broke her foot. Dr. Mead said this was not possible and laughed at her. The orthopedist treating her for the broken foot said she absolutely broke her foot on the trampoline. In the end Dr. Mead was unpleasant and dismissive. Avoid him!' read more

I had shoulder repair done June 23rd and opted to use my stem cells with placenta stem cells. I have had no pain and an extremely easy recovery! I would highly recommend stem cell therapy as I have had other friends who had same surgery without stem cells and they have really suffered.
