Ginn Field - how you've changed…read more This is a big soccer/softball field in Winchester, near the Wedgemere T station. The soccer and softball areas haven't changed in 20 years. The playground has. When I was a kid, it was all rusty swingsets and one of those deadly spinner-things - remember them? Almost broke my neck on that. It was replaced years ago by a giant wooden 2-story playground structure. Kids LOVE it. Got a number of slides, sandbox, seperate small "fort" for the small ones, swings. It's in OK shape. I am always surprised that the kids don't get splinters here. It's WOOD. But it's been so worn down over the years that it's all smooth. Private parking lot - not terribly big but at least they got it - assuming you can find the entrance (hint: go to the post office). The playground structure was all the rage when it was built - but it's dated now. Wood? All the new ones have plastic and steel. Ice cream truck will stop by, though. Side note: remember the flood of '96? Ginn Field filled up like a bowl of cereal. I'm not kidding. It's sort of a bowl-shape in and of itself, and it's right next to the Aberjona River, which itself used to flow straight through where the current field is now. Just remember, that where you're standing, was once 10 feet under in water and sewage..... yum.

Both are completely fenced in by new black chain-link fence with closable doors. Both have that rubbery-surface thing going on which is awesome. Both have great jungle-gym sets made of all that new steel and plastic. They are both open for public use all the time and are plain awesome. They are different in that one is smaller and made for the younger kids, but the big kids will love it too. The main one along Washington Street is huge - has a giant slide, 2 tubes to climb through, and awesome climbing things. Kids love it. It's great cause once kids get bored of one playground, just walk around the corner to the next one. Awesome place to kill time with your nephews.

There are a number of different trails to explore that are well marked/kept (similar to all Trustees spaces). After some rain in the area, some of the areas are a bit muddy, so one may want to keep an eye on the weather/bring hiking shoes or other shoes you don't mind getting some mud on. You can also hear the hum of the freeway nearby. I also saw a wild turkey on this hike, which I trailed behind for about 10 minutes, haha! Glad to run into a fellow hiker on this trail! :)

The pond was connected to a series of canals and locks , the pond's water was so clean back in the 1880s that it was sought after for ice in Boston. 80% of our time here is spent at the new Wilmington dog park. The park is decent but man does it…read morehave some serious flaws that I will address But first the positives; there are about 25 parking spots and if there isn't a softball game going on at the park below, it'll never be full. People are coming and going all the time to the dog area or on a quick hike in the back Its not like the Fells where you have bike warriors revving up for a 30 mile day on the trails and they never leave. The hiking trail that goes around the park and through some pretty desolate wetlands that look like dinosaurs live in them won't take you more than 15 minutes to complete. There are some side trails but most lead to the wetlands and you can't go any further. It's a nice jaunt after work for you and Fido. And then there is the controversial dog park. Firstly, they don't collect any trash here or at other parks in Wilmington so be prepared to take your poop bag with you. I don't know why they couldn't have made an exception here because there are way too many disgusting owners who just leave it behind for the town crew to retrieve. The park itself was built on a hill and its 100% sand. This was a major blunder because the drainage is terrible and either pools at the bottom in a disgusting puddle of dog uuhhmm things, or washes the sand out of the park completely. This really needs to be fixed because it's not going to hold up over time. Most of the dog owners are good even though there are some people who can't seem to realize their pet shouldn't be around others before they end up hurting another in the park. This is great for the area in terms of the benefit it adds but still has a long way to go to become a top notch park.

It is a very small loop trail with sign posts markings noting some of the natural environment area. It is a very flat and easy walk- with a packed down gravel trail. I recently was taking a walk with a coworker and we can across a flock of turkeys pecking and mulling about! There is a small parking lot and access off Rifle Range Road.

I mean, absolutely enormous. We had 25 kids from ages 2-7 in there, and kids never bumped into each other or fought for any toys. There were swings, bouncy castles, climbing apparatus, cars to ride on, kitchens and trains to play with. It was such a pleasure to see everything so clean, well maintained, and frankly fun for the kids. Not a single kid ran short of things to do or stuff to try for our 2-hour party. Next, the value you get from all the food, great decorations, private space, and top-quality party favors cannot be topped. We loved the setup of our room, and our son especially loved the Spider Man theme. Finally, the courtesy and kindness showed by the entire staff. The owner and his family were the staff today, and they made everything so smooth. From unloading to setting up and eventually to saying bye to our guests, they made sure every detail was easy and a joy for the kids. When we needed an extra balloon or some guidance, they were there in a flash. We shouldn't have been surprised by the success of VinKari Safari given its great ownership and particularly great human touch. We thank you.
