I love exploring plant nurseries in other cities that I visit, and this was a great one to explore! There were many unique plants and so much to look at within their spaces. This is a fairly large nursery with excellent pricing, great selection, and capable customer service (lots of knowledgable sales people helping out). They even helped me by pruning a large bougainvillea down to bonsai size. The three of us spent hours there, and bought about 25 trees, several pots, and accessories. First class; and we'll be back (even though it's 90 miles from our home). read more

Let me start with, I know absolutely nothing about plants, besides they need water, soil, and sun. =) With that said, this place is massive and I lost my wife a time or two as I kept going back and forth dropping off flowers into our cart, which we left at the front for convenience. Plus, I got to rack up extra steps by going back and forth. We were able to pick up roughly half a dozen house plants and a couple bougainvillea plants. Yes, I had to Google the spelling. And the new additions to our household has really livened things up a bit, and added some color to our landscape. The staff was absolutely friendly and helpful. They were able to guide us through the nursery, and offered suggestions based on our needs. Will definitely be back. read more

Listen, to be honest, I'll only generously give 3 stars because the younger girl that helped us was sweet and helpful. The place does have a nice selection. I'm saying this because I recently moved in and I need to do a lot of landscaping to a new home. The staff was not able to offer me a Police Discount and rejected the request. Even if I got a couple dollars off I would have appreciated the courtesy and gesture. I was told that they only offer a military discount. I guess these people at Leonardi's don't support our Law Enforcement. Now, I called EarthWorks Jacksonville and I was told that they will offer me a Police Discount. Now I will be giving all of my families business to Earth Works Jacksonville. If you are a Law Enforcement Family I'd suggest you do the same if you are looking for new landscaping. they appear to be a great company, the workers are sloppy and not verry nice... they were cleaning up a job they did and covered my car in dirt, I asked them about it and they laughed about it. I called there office and spoke to some one about it. It appears they don't care about it not even were sorry. I completely agree with everything in Maggie G's review, it's all still true four years later. I drove quite a ways to visit Leonardi's based on the healthy, beautiful plants posted to their Instagram account but felt misled when I arrived. In the front, there were the beautiful bougainvillea plants from their Instagram, which they said had just arrived. Also in the front were a variety of succulents but most were seriously overpriced, especially for their condition. Some were just a handful of broken off pieces of other succulents that hadn't even rooted yet. Other plants showcased on their Instagram account (Monsteras, Fiddle Leaf Figs, Birds of Paradise) were towards the front, but their condition was seriously underwhelming. Most plants had hard water stains/damage, some had sun damage or a large number of yellow leaves, and some had pests or clear bacterial infections. The shaded area with succulents towards the back had a massive fungus gnat problem, which immediately makes me reconsider any purchase from a nursery. I am sometimes fine with taking home a rehab plant but only if it's priced as such - the prices here did not reflect the quality or health of the plants. The nursery is huge, which probably contributes to the condition of the plants. I don't see how anyone could take good care of this many plants without a staff of 20+ people working on the plants full time. Staff were around and engaging but were all focused on speaking with customers, we didn't see anyone actually caring for the plants. As Maggie G mentioned, many of the outdoor plants had fallen over and no one seemed interested in picking them up. Overall, I really wanted Leonardi's to be the gold mine it appears to be online but was sorely disappointed. Any plants purchased here would need to be quarantined and rehabbed before joining your other plants. read more

Now as an adult I moved back to the area and have loved collecting as many hand painted pots and garden decor as possible! The variety and colors are so great and the plants are amazing as well! My wife and I went by here searching for a few things and were pretty impressed with the selection. A very vast yard full of plants, but it was a little disorganized. I'm sure they know where everything is, but it could be laid out better. They were higher than most other nurseries on almost everything. I live in Jacksonville but go to St Augustine a lot for work and play. Every time I pass Leonardi's I always admire the beautiful pots so today I decided to stop and check everything out. I was greeted by a very nice guy, Ed, who ended up giving me a tour and helping pick out a few flowers to pot and a Blood Orange tree to plant. It's by far the best selection of any nursery that I have been too. I didn't even have time to see the whole place and what all they have to offer. While I was checking out I found out that they have been in business for 53 years with the third generation now running it, great accomplishment. read more

I had a paver patio and sitting wall installed by Leonardis at a cost of $10,000. Within the first year the pavers settled and the wall moved. They removed some of the pavers that settled and put more base down before reinstalling the pavers. With the wall they moved the blocks closer to lessen the gaps that had formed between them. Six months later the pavers settled again and they performed the same procedure on the pavers but did nothing on the wall and then charged me for the work. Six months later the pavers settled again and the gap between the blocks on the wall widened even further. The wall was now leaning at an angle. A conversation was had with the owner about the situation and it was stated to me, "what do you expect you live on a marsh". Yes I do, but as my elevation certificate states very stable ground. I have since gained the services of another contractor "Florida Coastal Contractors" and they have had to remove every thing done by Leonardis and start from scratch. Removing a truck load of roots that should have been taken out in the first place. They then built a proper wall and backfilled with proper reenforcing to stabilize the ground. No movement and no settling. This again has cost me more than double the original amount paid to Leonardis. read more

The retail nursery is great, and I've had good experiences with the crew, but wouldn't recommend the company for bigger projects. There are more professional companies in town for irrigation and other landscaping projects. My fence was also damaged on their last visit. read more

You can find some unusual plants here that you won't find in most other places, certainly not in a big box store. They have an excellent selection of succulents and a nice range of sizes for staghorn ferns. I was able to buy a small one at a reasonable price to attach to driftwood I already had. Someone there clearly loves succulents because they were well presented and maintained. I went there during a cold snap and have taken that into account. I've also worked at a family owned nursery and know what is required to maintain healthy plants. The plants in the shade house and outside were a hot mess. Overall, the plants were overcrowded and neglected. They appear to have more plants than the staff necessary to keep them healthy and well maintained. The shade house was overcrowded and based on growth patterns, had been for some time. Aisles are narrow and plants are too jammed together to maintain good air circulation. Some plants were simply inaccessible due to crowding. More than just a few plants had fallen over and had been that way for some time. Baled potting medium with mycorhyzia expired in 2015 and staff had no idea of what is was for anyway. Outdoors, rows are narrow, many plants are inaccessible, and many, many have fallen over. Based on growth patterns, they've been that way for a year or more. The outdoor plants are poorly maintained and prices are inconsistent with the condition of the plants. Shrimp plants that started out as braided standards had not been maintained at all and had reverted to spindly shrubs from crowding and lack of maintainance. A braided shrimp in excellent condition is less expensive at Ace. Many plants outside lack prices on them. I did not look at landscape shrubs or trees so can not give any information on those. Staff is friendly and eager to help look for plants and find prices. Sometimes, a little too helpful. I purchased a Jatropha standard that was a bit spindly on the top but had a good shape. With balanced pruning, it will bounce back. My husband and I chose to load this plant ourselves on purpose. Despite refusing assistance multiple times, a staff member stepped in and "helped". In her hurry, she broke one of the branches- far below where I would have pruned it. Her response was not to apologize but to reassure me it would grow back. True, but no longer in the shape that had been possible. If you are looking for succulents, definitely check this place out. They are healthy, gorgeous, and priced fairly. Many of the plants need extensive rehab, at least a year's worth of general care and pruning. Prices, when you can find them, are frequently out of line for the condition and quality of the plant. Any dedicated gardener will be able to correct these plants but it will take time and work. Finding the braided shrimp somewhere else was my solution. PROS: Excellent succulent collection. Plants you may not find elsewhere. Helpful staff. CONS: Poorly maintained plants overall. Prices missing and out of line with the quality of many of the plants. Worth visiting to poke around if you're in a the neighborhood and have time. You may find a gem. read more
