Great hush puppies with cheese sauce !!!! They are brought to your table with cole slaw and unsweet tea pitchers before you order ! I had the special tonight ! Smothered pork with greens, mashed potatoes, carrots , and a roll. I also got the chocolate pie and onion rings ! The pork was delicious ! The greens had a smoky sweet flavor and really good. Picked up a catfish dinner to go when I got home and started eating i was disappointed, the fish was over cooked and very hard to chew, as were the hush puppies, the baked potato was not done in the center be nice if they would check them to insure they are done , a simple cake tester or toothpick would solve this problem, I've had this problem before dining in. read more

Good catfish plate and they leave a pitcher of tea on the table no doubt to save time. I was there at 12:15 on a Sunday and the church crowd had packed the place. Service did not suffer. Pine Bluff is off my usual route between Texas and Tennessee but Leon's is worth a return trip. DANGER! Just left this place. It was absolutely gross. Zero star rating. Marked one only because must do so to post. The hush puppies are served with nacho cheese?!? The boiled shrimp were the most bland I've ever had, and they are served cold, as opposed to fresh and warm. The fish was also bland and a bit slimy. The best thing on our plates was the baked potato wrapped in foil. $65 dollars later for 4 and I feel completely robbed. We were followed to our table by free yummy hush puppies, coleslaw, pickled tomatoes and tea. My dinner was $13.95, lightly breaded fried shrimp & just right seasoned catfish fillets. Not sure if it's just because I was really hungry, but it was quite delicious. I had the fried shrimp, baked potato, coleslaw and of course it's served with hush puppies and sweet tea. The homemade cocktail sauce was the bomb. The waitress was friendly and I was served very quickly. A coworker of mine insisted on stopping off at Leon's for "the best catfish you'll ever have" and surprisingly that assessment was pretty much dead on. And it's not based on limited exposure to fried catfish (which would push Leon's to the top by default) since I've had the privilege of travelling throughout southern Arkansas and Texarkana. This was actually the best fried catfish I have tried and it was very cheap. The breading was surprisingly light and the pieces of fish were thin so that you didn't feel as though you were eating a big piece of fried mystery fish. The six piece meal is a great starter and they give you the option of asking for more and "upgrading" to the all you can eat for only $2 more. The nice thing about this was that the catfish wasn't sitting under a heat lamp like most buffets or all-you-can-eat joints. The second helping is fried up while you waited. Your experience at Leon's begins with (unsweetened) tea, coleslaw, and hush puppies. The coleslaw is vinegar based and a little on the sweet side but decent. The hush puppies came with a nacho cheese reminiscent of the movie theater variety cheese. The jalapenos gave the hush puppies a slight kick which distracted you from the fried cornbread flavor. They are addictive and could easily fill you up if it weren't for the short wait time until your entrees come out from the kitchen. The special that day was chicken fried steak which came with flavorless mashed potatoes dripping in white gravy. The steak and potatoes didn't really stand out other than the lightness of the fried steak, much like the catfish. It was accompanied by overcooked sweet carrots and buttery green beans. The dinner roll was very dense and provided a much needed palette cleansing between the different fried dishes. The staff is very friendly and make the whole meal much more enjoyable. The homemade pies were tempting but I was too full to try them. If you're in the area this is definitely worth a visit, especially given the alternatives. If this is your first time having fried catfish you won't be disappointed, at least not until you try it somewhere else. read more

First of all, the map on Yelp is wrong. Leon's is in the Chapel Village mall on Camden Rd. just a few blocks off the expressway exit 39 - NOT on Chapel Hts off Sulphur Springs. Attentive staff: we were given the special as we were seated. Iced tea and hush puppies arrived minutes after we sat down. Those hush puppies were gone by then end of the meal; crispy and delish. We had the fried catfish, which was thin and crispy, not oily or heavy. Sides: baked potato (at 11 am) was the basic potato, and cole slaw was fresh. Gumbo was flavorful and well spiced, good but not great. Our kids had the popcorn shrimp, which was also fresh - no strong smell. The seasoned fries were good and crispy too. I love catfish but never order it here. One of my absolute favorite meals in the world is the Charbroiled Chicken from Leon's. The chicken is great but the bed of rice is fantastic! If you have any room left, try the caramel pie for dessert. There is something about this place that is special to me. Maybe it is because we ate there after church for lunch for years. We ate here a few days ago. I did not get a chance to check in, now I am too far away and the system will not let me check in. Our group was 16 people. The service was efficient and the staff friendly. The fish servings were large. We loved the set up tasters. Hush puppies, a cheese sauce and cold slaw. They kept them coming. When our dinner arrived, we had pigged out on the first part so some people did not devour their whole dinner. The standard fish orders came with about 6 pieces. I think they advertise 4 pieces. All of the food came out within a few minutes of each other. That is hard to do with a large crowd. I would come back here the next time we go through the area. read more

The catfish is delicious! We love catfish and this is by far the BEST we have ever had. You will not be disappointed! Pros-Fish is above average. Crust fried well & crispy but lacked a tasty seasoning, rather bland. Hush puppies are awesome and I could make a meal from them. They used to serve pickled tomatoes and cheese dip with the lunch meal but do not now. Cons-Slaw is too sweet and drowning in sauce. Worst thing - that the so called "baked potato" is a bold falsehood. It is very very obvious they boil their potatoes them wrap them in tinfoil and keep them heated. HORRIBLE, soggy, gummy tasteless goo!!!!!!! Not the flaky white russet one is led to believe they are ordering!!! That's what kept me from giving them a better rating. I wrote this letter in hopes of getting mom an apology. Dear Marty & Staff: I am very distressed to hear what happened at your restaurant, to my mother, for her birthday, November 3, 2016! I worked with Leon at Gajuns in Whitehall in the 1980s. I had my rehearsal dinner at your place in December 1990, before moving to Iowa. This is NOT the customer service that you trained me for, all those years ago?? My mother, turned 69 yesterday. She has limited mobility now and does not drive much. She never drives at night. She has been wanting to go to your restaurant for some time now. Since she is home most of the time, she hears your commercials a lot. She finally talked my son, her grandson, into taking her to eat at your restaurant for lunch, for her birthday. He drove from Redfield, picked her up in Rison, then took her to your restaurant. I called to wish her happy birthday and ask about her lunch with her grandson went. She was so upset. She said, "I guess I should have listened to those commercials closer. The good things they advertise are not served at lunch. I will not get to have them at night. No tomatoes, no dip, none of that stuff without paying extra. Then, when we left, I told Boots let me pay to get the senior discount. They told me that was not available during lunch." I told my mom how sorry I was that she finally got out of the house and her meal was disappointing. I told her I would take her back at night when I come home to visit.
