DON'T GO HERE Recently took a trip to the Black Hills to visit family. Along the way, one of my tires developed a leak. My brother-in-law was nice enough to fix it with a quick plug so that we could make it all the way out to the Hills. I took my vehicle in to Leo's and asked that they took a look at the tire and give it a permanent patch. I was asked if the puncture/patch was in the 'repairable zone' and was shown a diagram of a tire. I explained that my brother-in-law patched it with a quick plug, but from what I remember it was in that zone (oh how I was wrong). After coming back to pick up my vehicle, the person I spoke with (assuming it was the owner) proceeded to dress me down verbally, filling the air with profanity, that the patch was not in the "repairable zone", that I had said that it was, and proceeded to stare at me as if seeking an apology as if I had somehow harmed him. After a few moments of silence and being stared at, I then asked if he wanted me to pay for his time (which I was willing to do), he said that I was most certainly going to pay for his time and that he was going to charge me for a full patch job (which he didn't do). After paying for a full price patch and supplies (plus tax, lets not forget) for services and parts that I didn't receive, I was finally able to leave, $31 lighter, angry at how I was treated as a customer, and with a tire that still wasn't patched. If you are from out of town, or in town, don't bother with this place. I understand needing to cover the cost of your time when you look something over (again why I asked if I needed to cover his time) and find you can't provide a service, but there is no need to berate your customers and charge them for full service that was never performed. It was 100% my fault for not being certian where the hole was. I'll own that. When you're a customer oriented business, in a small town, with people rolling in that are not car experts, you need to learn to have a little patience and treat people with decency and as a person. read more

We were pressed for time and had to get back to Chicago for doctors appointment. Leo's quickly diagnosed the problem and put in a full day on a very tough job. Charged me $600 and didn't even fix my car! Dropped my car off and the next day he called me telling me "I'm stumped I can't fix it!" But charged me $600 for parts and labor that didn't even fix the problem! He would not even negotiate on the bill, I could've bought a WHOLE NEW ENGINE for what he charged me! DO NOT EVER GO HERE! So the car would not start, again. AAA gave me info on local repair shops, did not care at that point, we were stuck, again. Picked Leo's based on the reviews the AAA rep read to me. We were at the Jewel Cave N.P. and the tow driver was there within a hour, which was great because my mom is disabled. Nice man (S-I-L of owner), loaded up and off we went. Leo's was closed for business, but waited for us. They called several lodging places, found us a room, and drove us to the motel. Next morning, off we went. We were on vacation at Custer State Park when we had a problem with our RV. Roadside assistance had us extending our trip by a week and costing us literally thousands. We were able get into Custer S.D. and Troy was able to trouble shoot our RV in about 20min even though there were busy. Turns out it was a problem that was easily remedied. He really saved our vacation from turning into a very expensive nightmare. It's hard to find honest mechanics who will go out of their way to help you get back on the road. read more

So glad we found Leo's Auto Repair in Custer, SD. We had a good experience and quality repairs. This is a family run business in Custer that started with Troy's grandfather, was passed to his father Paul and is now run by Troy. Each of them being the primary mechanic during their ownership. Towing a 18,000 lb RV over two mountain passes traveling from East Yellowstone to Mount Rushmore S.D. caused severe brake problems for our 2015 Ford F-350. Troy took it for a test drive and confirmed my fear that we had some serious brake issues and would remove and inspect all parts and call us later to inform us of any problems. He called later saying that the rotors, brake pads, & calipers had some serious problems and preferred that we return so he could show us and explain some options. I'm not very savvy when it comes to brakes but our friend that was traveling with us had some knowledge & experience of brakes and confirmed that the parts needed replacing. This was going to be a major brake job and we debated taking it to the Ford dealer in Rapid City but that would cause some delays and could be far more expensive than what Troy was quoting. Troy and his father were very sincere and informative in explaining all options and indicated the work would be completed before the end of the next day!! This is amazing considering that Troy did all the work on our truck and I know he had other repair jobs he was doing during this time. You definitely don't get this kind of service at any major dealer's repair facility! We hooked up our 42' fifth-wheel toyhauler the next morning and continued on our journey and haven't had any brake problems since. read more

They're a father and son shop that's been in Custer for nearly forty years. Troy, the son, was super knowledgable, friendly and honest. My family was visiting Custer State Park and woke up to find a flat tire. My husband changed the tire with the rental spare. I called Leo's before 8 am where my call was answered by a nice guy that gave me good directions to the shop. Colton was waiting for us as we pulled in and quickly went to work fixing the tire. Another guy (sorry I didn't catch his name) removed the spare, wrote up the bill and installed the tire once fixed. They were friendly and worked quickly. Leo's Auto repair is a business you can trust. I called about ten minutes before lunch time. They told me to be there around 1 p.m. and they would fix my tire that had a nail and was leaking at the time on the car. I went ahead and drove up to the business and arrived about 12:15 p.m. The guy on duty was actually eating his lunch when we arrived. He finished in what had to be a hurry and had the tire fixed and back on the car by 12:45. Then he checked all tires and we were on our way. I don't always tip in this situation by I did give the gentleman that worked on his lucy hour to help us. I can see why all ratings of this business are 5 star. read more

Thank you! Leo's. You have saved my vacation trip with my family! About two weeks ago, I drove my van to Custer, SD and we arrived there on Sat evening. The next day, we took local tour and did not drive our van. After came back from the tour, I smelt very strong gasoline inside my van so I was frantically looking for auto shops nearby and found Leo's but they are close on Sunday. I made a phone call anyway and a very nice lady picked up the call and told me to come the next morning. So, I was there the next day early morning, 8 am. After telling them the issue with my van and that I have to checkout from my hotel that day, they worked on the van immediately and less than an hour later, they found out that the fuel pump ring was broken the caused the leak. They quickly called around and unfortunately no one carry the ring replacement, but they did not give up and called Honda. This quick thinking saved me because it turned out that the fuel pump issue was a recall for my van, Honda Odyssey 2008. They were told to put back the fuel tank and tow the van to a nearby Honda dealer which is in Rapid City about 40 minutes from Custer, SD. Fortunately I have AAA membership premiere so the towing cost will be free and since Honda will fix the fuel pump so that too will be free. This is what these shop really give superb service, when they were panic but took control of the situation for me that they asked me to call AAA to scheduled the towing and also to call the Honda dealer at Rapid City to schedule an appointment to make sure I can get that repaired that day. I did all that and all appointments were taken care for. Now what? How do I get back to my family who were waiting at the hotel to check out? I can't drive the van back there since I now know the issue and it is too risky to drive it. Leo's came to the rescue, the father was very nice to offer a ride for me back to the hotel which I gladly accepted. He also told me that his son will come by later on with his tow truck to take me and my family including the van to Rapid City. Wow, what a service and how well they treat us like a family! I have never came across a shop like this before who stand by me as if the problem are theirs and did not take advantage of the issue to me. They charged me with very reasonable rate to take down the fuel tank and putting it back. All the time, they treat me very well and made me feel safe and peaceful. Even the son called me "partner" all the time which made me feel like he is sharing the burden together. There is no other shop treated me like this before. I wish they were in my home town. I would go to them for my cars service if they were. Anyway, I really thankful for they help and service in help me get back on the road again. My God blesses their business more! Thank you!
