came here on the recommendation of a french friend…read more not sure what to expect. arrived here at around 4.30pm and was pretty empty. was politely told their kitchen won't open till 6.30pm. wasn't sure if I could last so long, to be honest. ordered a glass of champagne to start. followed by a mix cheese plate, jamon serrano and some olives. rustic bread basket accompanied them. mainly high bar stools seating, not the best for big groups. especially not when it gets crowded after their kitchen starts churning out tapas. another glass of white and red later, i surprised myself for having stayed so long. almost long enough to order some tapas perhaps? a request to have a look at their kitchen menu was turned down. she will only let me have it at 6.20pm. fine.... when I finally get my hands on it, I immediately ordered at 6.30pm. the carrot beignets and the lamb sweetbreads. not sure what happened after...... tick, tick, tick..... i was pretty sure i was the first to order? everyone else started to get their food. was patient and waited for a bit before enquiring. a surprised male server looked into it. crickets...... further food arrivals for all patrons around me! enquired again and again with three other ladies including the gal who took my order. finally, my beignets arrived. it was ok but way past my bedtime! alas, the sweetbreads came almost an hour after i initially placed my order, which didn't even come close to any good sweetbreads i've had many times prior! just couldn't bring myself to finish it....... sorry but even though they said they would comp one of my wines(was the champagne), i have already made up my mind that all they will get is a middling grade. not sure if i would recommend them to you. but if you are in the area and needed a tipple, sure, else look elsewhere. p.s. further service recovery in the form of another glass of red was poured my way, perhaps a little too late?

Seems like a very popular stop but I was very confused by the menu with mostly asian influenced…read more Perhaps it should be called fusion tapas not french tapas. Menu items like... (Also photo attached) Shitake Mushroom w/ Soysauce - Japanese Tempura - Japanese Miso Salmon - Japanese Grilled Shrimp w Coconut and Lime - Thai? Chicken Teriyaki - Japanese Pork Belly Siracha.. Duck Tataki w/ Soysauce.. I don't know, do they use use typical asian sauce to stand out in Paris wine bar scene? I ordered the Grilled Lettuce Cesar style (least asian looking lol), basically a Caesar salad but with 4 leaf only. Also tried the Tempura Asparagus and Green Pea (because it's asparagus season) asparagus was skinned, lost its texture somehow. Green Pea fell apart every single bite with the batter. At least the foam form Hollandaise sauce was interesting. Had 3 wine by the glass, was great. Enjoyed white wine the most. But that's really it.

la mangerie is a funky tapas restaurant with a hip ambiance and big tapas to share. upon arrival,…read morewe were given shots to take and then taken through a secret door to a tropical island themed room. the tables are very close together and it does get loud as the night goes on. service was efficient and explained how the menu works. the reviews are true about the portions: the tapa size is very generous (of course reflected in the price). the dishes/flavors also tend to lean on the heavier side. my friend and i shared 3 tapas and we were stuffed. so 2 per person is more than enough. tapas are a mix of cuisines so fun to mix and match. // braves patates (fried potatoes) 11.5 // fried potato cubes with a delicious garlic aoili and spicy red sauce. these were definitely heavy but i really enjoyed the two sauces and you can't go wrong with fried potatoes. // butternut grillee, yaourt grec aux herbes et noisettes (grilled butternut squash with greek yogurt) 15 // the warm grilled butternut squash went well with the cool greek yogurt. i enjoyed the herbs and toppings as well. // peanut fried chicken 17 // a very filling but yummy dish! this peanut is more like the thai satay styled, and is on the sweeter side. fried popcorn-like chicken bites. all tapas were good in their own ways and incorporated different flavors and cuisines. wish i had more stomach space to try more of them!
