Stumbled upon the restaurant on a quest for Poutine, however we were taken back on how delicious there Mexican version Choriqueso poutine was. What a great twist! I came to this place as part of a food tour and was very happy that it was included. It has a lot of rich history and is its own microbrewery! Each beer we tried was tasty and the food itself was awesome too! We had the boar & blueberry sausage and duck with the salad. I'm not a fan of boar in general but this one wasn't that bad and the rest of the dish was spectacular. They really know what they're doing with the beer pairings so take their recommendations! Limited selection of brews (I wish they still had a flight of all 9 for $25, but they changed it to 4 tastings for $15), but a little variety and they are well-crafted. We particularly enjoyed the witbier, stout, and grisette. The atmosphere is upscale and classy while still remaining relaxed and not overly expensive. And the food is quite delicious. In our case we tried the burger (with smoked potato salad, and that smoking is just a wonderful addition of flavor) and the beet hummus, which was also ridiculously good (interesting for a hummus, because it is both savory and a bit sweet.) I am re-visiting my review based on my spring and summer experiences at Les Soeurs Grises. No update on the food but the beer has been innovative and delicious . The brewers are clearly going out of their way to make fun summer time beverages. Recent examples include a Raspberry Sour and a super tasty Pineapple Blanc. Grab your growler and head over there NOW before they run out. The outdoor patio is great and the staff is always friendly. I was looking for a micro-brewery to try out in Montreal while on a stopover and found this gem. We sat at the bar and were greeted with glasses of water to start with. The bartender gave us both the food and beverage menus and we looked them over. We only time for a drink as we needed to get back to our hotel for check out, but I really enjoyed L'Amère supérieure (English Style IPA). My significant other had a Cidgria which was also very refreshing. You can get the beer in a variety of sizes if you want to try a flight and you can also take the beer to go. I wish we had time for the food as it looked delicious, but alas we did not. I would definitely come back here to try the food and sample more of their beers. read more

NEITHER TIMES DID HE WASH HIS HANDS. And was in the stall with his phone. Which he brought directly to the kitchen. This place is really cute and chill. Stopped by to taste their Camelia beer with a few samples of cheese. Had three different types of cheese to help cleanse the palette. I don't drink beer because of the strong wheat taste. Their are enough beers that are sweet/fruity to not dislike it. Great beer. Came here for a 4à7 after work (our typical location for them). The beer is all made by them (it is a microbrewery). I usually go for the margarite. It is a nice blonde beer, with a nice % of alcohol. The ambiance inside is really nice. The lighting is pretty good for a bar. However, the chairs aren't the most comfortable. They also sell their beer for take out at a pretty cheap price! Overall, I would recommend this bar for a nice outing with some friends. read more

Another micro-brewerie, the beer is good i tried the white beer Camelia ( a tip to la dame des Camelia from Sarah Bernard !), it was a good white beer with a little aftertaste of sencha tea i like it as it's a genuine beer you can't find at every corner. As for the meal it's a bit pricey as the main course are just a plate without fries or veggies, i order the wild meat stew with deer and buffalo and it was good but you don't have anything else on the platte and for 18$ i expected more than just a stew. My friends ordered grilled cheese that were good but a bit expensive at 12$. So it's a micro-brewery that expect young professionals to pay more for less in their plate but the beer is excellent. Bon un autre micro-brasserie à Montréal ! La bière est excellent j'ai gouté la camélia (une allusion à la pièce de théâtre La dame au Camélia de Sarah Bernard !). C'Est une excellente bière blanche avec un arrière goût original de thé sencha .Il y a des bières originales que vous ne trouverez pas à chaque coin de rue comme les bière des 3 brasseurs ! Pour le repas j'ai commencé le ragout de gibier avec bison et cerf et c'était excellent quoique pour 18 $ j'aurai espéré des frites ou une salade compris avec l'assiette. I brought a friend here, based on positive memories of our recent office Christmas party, where the food was good and the whole experience positive. Reserved regular seating, then was offered high seating with too small a surface for eating. After complaining we got a table. The continuous banquette wobbled, and the 250lb next table neighbor's nervous leg motion and his jumping up every 5 minutes made for a very bouncy evening - that is a first in my life. The small menu was lunch fare with mostly sandwiches. Only three items looked like supper and the only one of those I wanted was sold out by 7:15. WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY too loud to talk. The crowd was basically frat house. They obviously know little about restaurants. Nothing like that quite good office Christmas party that made me want to return. Staff was polite. I used to visit Les Sœurs Grises many years ago and we had always very enjoyable experience. This is why I started contemplating another visit this year and here we are with a friend. I wouldn't say the beers of this gastro pub stand out considering the diverse brew pub scene of Montreal. They are however well balanced brews of good quality. On that night La mère noale became quickly a favorite one, rather strong, intense in flavours and aromas. Food wise the menu is pretty long, burgers, tacos, quesadillas and solid list of snacks. My sweet potato fries were good enough to make me happy. Service was kind of scarce or I would rather say distracted. My real complaint of that night is the ventilation system. My clothes still desperately smell deep fried food, definitely an area for improvement. This is really three and a half stars review, but Christmas is coming! I will be back for the beer, but after a little pause. read more

This place is like the Mitt Romney of bistros. It looks good, it smells good, the menu looks enticing... but halfway through, you're thinking: WTF AM I EATING. This is really not that great. Here are some particulars. I tried the wild boar burger. Now, I know wild boar well because I have actually eaten wild boar before at hunters' feasts, and I was expecting a taste of wild boar ....cuz that's what you billed on your menu. It looks great, and the first few bites were good... but then I found myself struggling to finish. It was super salty, it tasted more like a McDonald's breakfast sausage patty than "wild boar", and honestly, the sauce that came on it (green pesto mayo concoction), made me nauseous later. My friend took the vegetarian wrap, and she left half of it on the plate. That is how "good" that was... it came cold, she asked for it to be warmed up and they (lazily? snootily?) told her "no can do". WTF. My other friend took the chicken quesadilla, ate it, didn't find it remarkable, but not terrible either... until later, when she was retching into the toilet, making herself vomit because it landed so heavily in her stomach that it made her queasy (I was not far behind her, to be honest). We all felt queasy afterwards. Maybe from the one note, flat taste in our mouths.. maybe from the heaviness of the food even though we are all serious eaters and yesterday had taken a massive amount of Mongolian Hot Pot into our stomachs and felt fine afterwards. Whatever it was, it is not going to be a place on my list. I will never, ever come back here. If I am forced to come back, I will eat beforehand, and just take a soft drink. Our experience visiting this restaurant for Mtl a Table was kind of a mixed bag. My husband and I are very in to craft beer and started with the sampler of 9 beers. There were 10 beers on tap, but we received 8 samples because they were out of one of the beers. We had to figure out which ones we were missing. We did get to order a second sample of the one we liked the best. The beer is good, but not great. There were certainly a few that we really enjoyed, but others were lacking in flavour. Of the several restaurants we visited during Mtl a Table, this was my husband's favourite meal (it was also the cheapest)! He very much enjoyed his duck served with a waffle. I, on the other hand, received salmon that was way over cooked. We both liked our appetizers and desserts. The regular menu has quite a bit of variety, so I imagine we will be back for a pint and a meal at some point. Will update if anything changes! read more

One of two breweries that we visited during our trip in Montreal. Fairly large (2 floors) with a diverse food selection. Tried 9 out of 10 beers on tap (one was unavailable). A nice assortment of different beer styles, with many experimental beers that were interesting. The only food we ordered was the poutine, which came in a Chipotle-BBQ sauce and was very tasty. Overall, this place is a little overshadowed by the presence of Dieu du Ciel, but is a really nice and relaxing hangout place nonetheless with good food options. read more

I think this is one of our drinking stops along the way of our journey in Montreal. It was a relatively quick stop, but great beer and great time. It is my first time visiting Montreal. I went to this place because I saw it on Yelp. When I walked in the service was slow, but didn't think much about it. The place was packed. Our waiter started off my greeting us and taking our order. We ordered the beer sampler to tried the nine small beer samples they recommended and we ordered our food. After we finished the beer sampler we order our first draft beer and started eating our food. This is when we started noticing the bad service. The waiter had forgotten our draft drinks. He seemed to be in a rush and taking other drinks to other tables. He looked at us after we finished our meal and said, "oops." The waiter then brought us our draft beers that we each ordered. We drank our beers and then we asked for the bill. The waiter brought us our bill. When we reviewed the bill we noticed he had charged us for two extra drinks. We brought this error to his attention and he then started to argue with us. He looked at us and rolled his eyes and said "whatever." Why in the world would we question a bill. I felt super offended by his attitude and his back & forth arguing. I was shocked when we tried to bring it up again. He looked at us and said, "it doesn't matter to me" and he then shaked his head. Word of advice mister waiter. We are tourists and are actually going places to spend money. We would not question a bill if it weren't true. We were actually looking to order additional drinks but decided not to due to the slow service. I for sure will never go to this place again due to the lack of respect and professionalism. Arriving midnight after Igloofest this lower McGill street bistro wasn't packed and wasn't screeching with bumpcha bumpcha so we ducked in and sat on the couch against the wall and ordered giant mugs of stout, nuts, olives and homemade spicy beef jerky. The service was perfect; always there when you wanted it but discreetly disappeared when you were deep into a conversation, and even when we lost track of time and talked till 3pm we were never given the slightest hint of rush. The stout was delicious and giant mugs are both economical and swashbuckling, and the long list of beer imports certainly had me curious to come back for more. The snacks were fine, and gladly received given that the kitchen was already closed. The decor rubbed me the wrong way. Though the lighting is sexy and dim and attractive and the space holds all kinds of potential there is this forced "modernness" that is actually very 90's dated, cold and uncomfortable. Why all these hard chairs, and stiff couches with half backs where you hit your head if you lean back? Why with the window treatment of cold angled slabs, why so much metal and white? I'd love to see more stone, wood, a fireplace, a connection to the actual space and history all around in Old Montreal and even right there in the name. Huge potential here and I'll come back, but my quest for the perfect cozy Old Montreal bar continues. read more

Upon entry, the restaurant gave great vibes, and service appeared great. This was not the case. It took half an hour for our appetizer, and went downhill from there. Our food was on the cold side, maybe because it took at least 40 minutes to arrive at our table. After finishing our meal, our waiter decided to take a lunch break? He proceeded to make himself food and a drink, only to leave us waiting for about an hour for our bill. Once we received the bill, our server reviewed our tip. He was displeased, and had the audacity to mention that we "clearly did not like us." We were honest, and he proceeded to give us a chuckle, dismissed us, and we went on with our night. A new microbrewery in Montreal... one would be tempted to say what's new ? well everything. First thing to be reviewed in a brewery is the beer. The General Manager of this business has a long experience in brewing and it shows. These beers are just as good or better than what you would get at Brasseurs de Montreal, L'Amere A Boire and other good locations for beer. They have a decent choice. I tried many and they are all delicious in their own style. They also import rare beers. In short it is clear that the owners have a passion for excellent beer and deep knowledge. The staff is knowledgeable too and able to comment and make valid suggestions. Then comes the location. It is located in my favorite area of Old Montreal. Not right in the middle of the tourist traps, just a little bit west, where the real Montrealer has its quarters. The building belongs to the religious community of Les Soeurs Grises or used to (that remains to be clarified) and has been renovated with simplicity, sobriety and taste. You really feel comfortable to stay a long time there. Where the real surprise was, which prompted me to give 5 stars, was the quality of the food. They have a tapas menu and a bistro food menu, but none of them are standard fare. They all have their special twist. I had a grill cheese complete with Charlevoix cheese, chorizo and fig jam... it was pure pleasure. I love sandwiches but I never thought I could love them so much ! my friend had a BLT which he enjoyed thoroughly too. Next time I'm definitely going for the hot dog ! I think this place is definitely going to become my spot for the months to come and I strongly suggest people to try it. read more

This microbrewery housed in a renovated modern space in what used to be a nunnery serves up some tasty beer. The space is perhaps a bit too modern as it felt a little too trendy, though perhaps because it was largely empty around lunch time on a weekday. With a larger crowd it might feel more appropriate. It was pretty awesome to watch the brewery in operation right behind the window inside though and made the beer taste super fresh. The service was incredibly friendly and helpful about the beer. They don't have a huge selection as they are still pretty small compared to many other brewpubs in the city. The beer they do have though is reflective of the focus and attention to detail being a smaller brewery forces on them. The golden ale was bright and crisp and flowing with flavor. If they continue to make beer this good, they'll be growing in no time. read more

They get menus and order their food. -12.37 pm : we receive our menus 12.40 we waive at the server and order our food. 12.55 the server apologises and offers 10% discount and promised food was on its way 13.01....we left...still hungry. A few downsides- the terrasses closes early and the food is not amazing. They have a reasonable vegetarian selection of appetizers and salads but they could offer at least one or two vegetarian mains... They recently got rid of their delicious falafel sandwich... Our friends had been here before and really enjoyed it, so we were on a hunt to find this place again. They got a beer flight and polished it all off enjoying most of the selection. My wife and I got a salad and the bison blueberry burger. Both were respectable showings. Presentation was good, service was fast and friendly. I would have loved to give it another chance - the ambiance seemed like it would be a nice place to make your 'local' for slightly higher class (and price) food and after work drinks. Unfortunately we went during poutine week (apparently a thing in Montreal :-)) and they were packed. Thankfully we'd made reservations since we were a larger than average group. Not only was it loud (in a boisterous friendly way), they ran out of poutine (!!). The food we had instead was good and a generous enough portion for a mini express lunch.
