Dr.Busby is a bit creepy and has an "odd sense of humor" as he said himself. He is definitely old school and thinks touching your knee a bit is normal behavior. I went here because I just needed a quick eye exam to get contacts. It was weird but bearable. All the staff is a bit weird and unprofessional and seem to not know what's going on. They spelled my name wrong multiple times on the sheet and didn't even correct some of it. I finally came to the appt where i purchase my contacts. I wait 2 weeks and no one every called me for an upstate when they said it'd take a week. I call and they said oh they just came in right now. I was like okay how long are you open? & she replied "5:30, but can you come before then" like ok ig lol. I go over there they had me a SINGLE one week pack. I'm like this is not 3 month worth's of single wear contacts. She proceeded to tell me there's more in there... I opened it n was like No. She goes oh sorry we'll order them in again ig they didn't order them... She tells me it'll take a week, and i told them to PLEASE call me. More than a week has gone by and no call. I called and they're so unhelpful and remain clueless about my contacts. I ask for an update now it's been about a month with no contacts while i have already PAID IN FULL. She was all "we still don't have them, but your chart is out. So i'll ask." I'm like "ok PLEASE call me with an update then?" She still hasn't called back. This place is wack asf and weird Do not come here. TLDR: Dude himself is off putting, staff sucks, never call you first. Slow and bad service read more

Horrible customer service for being loyal customers for over 15 years. Simply asked for a prescription to be sent over to Costco so my son could get prescription sunglasses and was denied due to the prescription being outdated by just a few days. I asked for an exception and was told no. From the get-go, the receptionist was rude and acted like she was doing me a favor in my simple request. Not only was my request denied but they didn't even have any appointments for an eye exam till April to try and remedy the slightly outdated prescription. I understand they may have some rules to abide by but to have some decency and consideration for the situation would have gone a lot further. Dr. Busby needs to reevaluate his front desk employees as they do paint a picture of the business in general and this picture was not a good one. Not continuing as a customer any longer! read more

Absolutely amazing! I've been coming here for years, but lapsed in the past few years. I've since had a daughter who is 6 months and this is key- My husband and I went for eye exams and had to bring our little one; they were EXTREMELY accommodating and kind, patient and worked around our ability to pass her back and forth, and even engaged with her! She was thrilled and had a great time, plus we were able to get our exams done! So thankful! read more

It is so hard to get a prescription. It is associated with unnecessary services and exams which are not covered by insurance. The front desk really treated the customer in a very mean way. Totally do not understand what is wrong with their services. Just a signature on the prescription can torture you so many times. From making the appointment to get my prescription, two months has been passed. Still waiting for a signed signature! Doctor Busby, if you see this, ask your front desk what happened and get a better front desk who can honor or at least respect your customers please！ read more

I have been seeing Dr. Busby for over a decade. My old optometrist had retired and I needed to find a new one. A friend recommended Dr. Busby, gave him a try and I've never left. From my very first appointment I was impressed with the thoroughness of the exam. Over the years as my eyes aged, he explained options and gave excellent recommendations. Yes, I now wear bifocals, but with his recommendations on type of lenses, I had no trouble adjusting. His office itself is sometimes a little chaotic. It seems that each year there is a new staff. I saw Dr. Busby once for an eye check-up. The thing about me is that I hate anything touching my eyes, and he did not have any patience for me. The office felt outdated and creepy, with old stuffed animals and yellow dim lighting. The people working at the front desk were a bit out of it. They got the date wrong for my examination, among other things. The glasses selection were not so great. I'd suggest looking around before buying a pair of glasses here. I'm a student at UC Davis, and they do take SHIP health care. But maybe he's better with older people or families...? read more

I had read good reviews and came in with an open mind, but I found the office staff to be unprofessional and a bit unusual. One of them smelled strongly of cigarette smoke and made odd jokes at my elementary age child who was there for the exam. It's hard to explain but they were not quite age appropriate so that my child didn't get them, and then the staff member seemed to hold the pose and wait for us all to laugh which was awkward. My biggest concern however, was Dr. Busby himself. He had an odd sense of humor that was a little creepy, then during the exam he touched my child's knee MULTIPLE TIMES to say "good job." Then at one point he asked about their attire in a way that they showed it to him and he made a huge deal about it in a way that was very odd. Our family doctor is very careful to say when she is going to touch our kid and why and get permission to do so, so I find it very odd that he was comfortable touching my child so much. I almost walked out but didn't want to scare my kid and honestly was second guessing myself so I just stood as close to them as I possibly could. When we left my child said they did not like that place at all and never wanted to go back. I agreed but asked what gave them that feeling and they said "He acted like a grandpa but he doesn't know me. I didn't like that." read more

Dr. Busby was my optometrist when I lived in Davis and I LOVED him. He was always very cheerful, professional, thorough, and always willing to explain anything. The opticians were always patient with me as I am a picky frame-picker-outer...and were also patient with me when it took forever for me to learn to take my new contact lenses out (they make you put them in and take them out three times before you can leave with them). If I can't find a suitable replacement optometrist in the Bay Area, I will not hesitate to drive back to Davis for yearly visits to Dr. Busby! read more

I did not like this place something seemed off from the time I walked in there. so important to know he is not a physician of any kind he can only prescribe eye glasses. one thing really upset me was I was lied to when I went back to check on my glasses I was told the girl was not there. then a couple walked in behind me and asked the same question and the girl I wanted to see came out from the back office and helped the people who came in after me. The doctors are nice and professional with the actual exam. Had quite good experiences until my recent visit when they finalized my contact lens fitting. My eyes have allergy problems, so it took quite a long time. I asked if I could have fitting for both biweekly and daily ones since biweekly are difficult to clean when the allergy is tough. And she nicely said yes and also said absolutely yes when I asked if I could have two power levels if it's not a hassle (One with a little higher power when I need to see a little bit far). Yes, I did ended the request with " if it's not a hassle". And it did turn out to be a huge hassle. I didn't know beside the one year's expiration, she also limits that i could only buy one's year's supply. I understand that she wants to make sure we have our eyes checked every year, but it is not quite convenient for someone who don't usually use the lens up to 2 weeks. Sometime I just lost the lens and more often, it just gets uncomfortable before the 2 weeks end. Even after i got over this and went on hoping to place an order for the contact lens. The hassle began. The stuff basically panicked saying there's two power levels and they need to make sure I don't get supply for longer than a year. And the doctor also forgot to put the biweekly one in the summary. So I waited for the doctor to come out again, I reminded her and she added it. And I can see the stuff's face dropped more. They kept on talking, 'this one is for half year, and this one only get what half year...' I felt quite sorry as i created quite a problem for them. I said sorry but got a quite flat reply. But they can just talk to me and asked which one I want to order for that day. I wish I could tell the doctor I only want one power level now. I told them I wouldn't buy one year's supply that day and asked if I could see the price for the lens so I could decide how many I would like to buy with the insurance. They just told me: "could you hold on a minute?" and went on discussing how many I should buy... I ended up staying there for another extra half hour while they discuss my purchase plan without me. I finally couldn't stand it cause I was quite hungry and running late for a meeting. So I went to the back cubicle where they were having their discussions. I told them I'd just buy half year's supply for the biweekly one and will order the daily one at other places but will keep it within the one year supply. And also said several times asking them please send a copy of the prescription to me. But four days later, after two phone calls, I still don't have the copy. The whole visit on that day really gives me a very uncomfortable feeling. I think it's reasonable to have both biweekly and daily ones fitted since that's what I got in another office. Having two power levels might be a little trouble-maker, but if they had told me this would be a hassle, I wouldn't even ask! And the stuff just make me feel like I was one making unreasonable request and they just wished to get it done and don't even want to listen to whatever I was going to say! I recommend this office to several friends before, but after the last visit, I just told them maybe not for the contact lens fitting. read more
