We wanted this to be good, and were excited to try it after my MIL read the review in the Tribune.....but unfortunately it was a very average experience. Our server was very nice, as were the bussers and staff. Food was just ok. Appetizers were better than the entrees, although the fish roe and urchin spread was extremely salty and tasted too much like the ocean. Chicken tagine was served in a tagine - but the tagine was cold, so the chicken wasn't really cooked in it! Very gimmicky. There should have been more apricots, couscous, and preserved lemon, and flavors in the dish as well. Definitely not worth $36. Lamb entree met a similar fate - very average. Chocolate mousse dessert was good. Apple tart was way too dry and more like a cake. Apple filling was MIA....maybe a tablespoon in total. Hopefully the chef can tweak the menu here! read more

So good!!! We had three apps: the lyonnaise salad, eggplant/garbanzo salad, and liver mousse. All were tasty and delicious! For dinner, I had the monk fish-lentil entree. My husband had the mussels. Just spend Father's Day at this restaurant. It's beautifully decorated, I mean the different light fixtures fabulous wallpaper behind the bar the foor it's all very nice. Food is ok ( I say ok because there were just a few things not great, I'll get back to that later) small small portions of course ( but we knew that going in) ! Service, just a giant thumb down. No water for the table , had to ask for it. When your 18 year old son tells you after the waiter came to the table that it sounds like he does not want to be there lol not funny . Had to ask for sugar 2 times and still get up and get it your self. So he was low I went high trying to make something good out of it. Ordered a banquette for the table pre- ordering our individual food. Never came or an explanation on why not. Ordered food and came pretty quickly They forgot my husbands side order of bacon and my sons were partially burned ( not edible) ! My fries were salty ( a lil too much) I think if you pay what you pay I should not get a portion of fries that have a lot of dark spots on it. Quality control. Check time because we did not want dessert. Yes the 2 orders of bacon were on there and yes I told our server to please remove which he did and brought the bill down just a lil $172.00 as I was manually putting in the tip my husband says he was looking over my shoulder. Uncomfortable for some not me. I gave him $15 and that's generous . They obviously have a few things to work out. We came in to celebrate our anniversary and are so glad to have this new addition in Evanston. The food was delightful and unique. We especially loved the lamb couscous. We also really appreciated the warm service, and the perfectly paced courses. We finished the night with great recommendations for aperitifs that we thoroughly enjoyed. I think this place is still trying to find its identity. A French restaurant which reflects the country's multicultural background is an innovative idea. I had one of their taglines. While it was tasty, it was not distinctive of memorable. The chocolate mousse with cherry compote was quite good. I didn't mind it's cafeteria-style presentation - simply slapped on the plate. Their specialty gin & tonic was on the weak side. It just didn't come together for me, but Ivwill go back again since I think they need time to distinguish themselves. P.S. As shown in her other restaurants in Evanston, Amy Morton and/or her designer has distinctive taste in decor and paintings. At Found & The Barn, it works/works. But in the dining area we were seated, huge unattractive paintings covered the walls. Maybe the decor was intended to be Bohemian...? Very disappointing for all four of us. Soup and tagines were lukewarm. The tagine is just for presentation - not the way the food is cooked. Not authentic. No seafood. Desserts just okay. We went with another couple and we were mixed on the food. I loved my mussels entree and my taramosalata appetizer. My wife really enjoyed her steak. Beautiful restaurant and high-quality ingredients along with great service makes this restaurant one that I would go back to. Cocktails are top notch. As to how often I would visit, the menu lacks enough variety or innovation as noted by previous reviewers to go on a regular basis without running out of dishes to order. A few tweaks to add more authentically moroccan flavors and skip some of the conventional French dishes would give this restaurant more broad appeal. Right now the menu is running more towards Conventional French dishes as opposed to innovative and Moroccan. read more

Wonderful evening at Le Tour! Celebrated a milestone birthday tonight. What a great place to have a birthday! Prosecco toast with a sparkler, and then with dessert a sparkler as well, with birthday wishes from two staff. First we arrived and found out minutes before, the party went to 4, from 5 due to unexpected circumstances. No bother for them, we felt bad, but they were totally gracious about the change. We had a lovely meal, goat cheese appetizer highly recommend, we ordered two. The bread served with the meal with the mustard was also wonderful. For mains we had smash burger, skate fish and lamb couscous. All were delicious. We brought a cake, and they did not mind serving it and as mentioned, with a sparkler to boot! It was a perfect evening, and would like to give a shout out to Mary, our server, who gave great food and wine suggestions and made the evening memorable with her enthusiasm. I had the grilled octopus salad. The octopus was very tasty. The salad was a bit monotonous: a bed of arugula, a couple of olives, a couple of cherry tomatoes, and underneath a thin slice of rather dry bread, which at first I did not see, so I asked for some bread (after all this is supposed to be a French restaurant). Then the waitress pointed out the slice of bread underneath the lettuce; she brought me some French bread anyways. And by the way, what is the meaning of the name? In French, Le tour (masculine) means turn; feminine La tour means tower. I would have thought that the feminine would have been more pertinent. read more

Was very excited when I heard Le Tour was opening up! We waited a couple of months before going, and in the meantime heard a lot of mixed reviews from friends and family who had dined there. My husband and I finally went this past weekend and sadly many of the reviews proved true. The food is very expensive for what you get. The food was lacking seasoning and was mediocre. We felt for the price we paid, it was not worth it. On a positive note, our drinks were very good!! The cocktail and wine list was impressive and we agreed we would come back for drinks with friends. The staff and ambiance was also a positive and left we saying that we hope to come back and give it another try. We are very supportive of restaurants in Evanston and hope this review helps Le Tour improve where we found lacking and disappointing. read more

We held our wedding rehearsal dinner at LeTour a few months ago and had a great experience overall. The atmosphere, food, and service were all great and our guests loved it. We STILL hear about the food! We had some issues related to the amount of alcohol served without being asked, but the owner promptly called and addressed my concerns, remediating the situation. I recommend it for a rehearsal dinner, but highly suggest paying per hour for drinks rather than by consumption. read more

We were so looking forward to a wonderful meal. Once back in our car, none of us had any reason to want to go back to this restaurant. Food, service, and pricing do not align at Le Tour. Our server did his best under an obvious shortage of staff in the restaurant. He had too many tables and one we were told were friends of the owner so they needed a lot of special attention! Big mistakes made serving our gluten free guest. Our main courses were plopped in front of us and nobody ever came back to check on us. Seemed off to have a James Beard Chef in the kitchen and poor service in the front. Would have had dessert but by the time we were offered menus, our patience and parking meter time had expired! read more

I have been twice and found the service excellent and the menu interesting. Had steak frites and while the steak part was good, the frites not so much. The Caesar salad was wilted and rather flavorless. For the price, I would expect a bit better but it is a fun atmosphere. The wine selection is good. Leaving a review because there food is good so i hope that they can get better. We placed our entire order at once, food took forever and drinks took even longer. Everything was unorganized and took entirely too long. It wasn't the servers fault. It seemed like the kitchen and bartender were extremely backed up, in fact they even confirmed it after we complained. Sure it's Father's Day, but the restaurant opened back in the fall, so they should be equipped to handle this at this point. Again, the food is good, but the service and time it took to get everything ruined the experience making it hard to justify going back. read more

Excellent brunch. We had the crispy octopus salad. It was delicious, tender and quite filling for a brunch portion. I also had the prosciutto baguette sandwich which included a salad Maison. We wanted to like LeTour, but the food misses the mark. If you're comparing to other suburban French restaurants I suppose its ok. If you compare to the best casual French restaurants in NY or Chicago it doesnt come close. We ordered a starter, 2 mains and a desert. The starter a Moroccan egglplant and chickpea salad had a strange consistency it was chunky, chewy and lacked any taste. For the mains we ordered skate wing, it was very fishy and lacked flavor (we didnt eat half of the dish) and the burger with fries. The burger was a large - two patties with cheese and grilled onions - it was very greasy and mushy as the cheese and mayo drowned the burger. The fries were the best part of our meal, a higher quality version of what you'd find at In & Out Burger. For desert we ordered a meringue pavlova that was a hard chuck of sugar with whip cream on top. Overall execution and flavor all fell short. The location has been a revolving door with multiple restaurants not sticking around too long. If you're looking for a high quality French restaurant look elsewhere. read more

I went to LeTour tonight with high expectations. The food was good but the server didn't know the contents of the menu. What was upsetting were the cocktails and wine that we ordered. The wine appeared to be a 4 ounce pour in a very small wine glass. When I asked the server he said he had no idea what size the pour should be. In addition the martinis that were ordered at $18.00 each were also very small. When I asked a manager she said it was supposed to be a 6 ounce pour for the wine but it clearly was not. I was at Le Tour last night, big letdown. Some dishes were flat, others used too much of strong herbs/spices which overpowered the dish, and opportunities for really wonderfully flavored dishes squandered. The Tangine Chicken offered so much promise for an exciting dish and it didn't come through. The preserved lemons, apricot, olives were basically add-ons and didn't contribute to the overall flavor (they should have, squandered opportunity). The Mussels? Six were closed, meaning they're bad, not to be eaten. Why they were included in the dish brought to my table is a mystery. If that's not enough, the bowl of mussels also included an open mussel with a broken shell; there were bits and pieces of this broken shell in the broth which I had to remove from my mouth. Again, why a mussel with a broken shell made it into the bowl brought to my table is a mystery. Further, why the mussel broth included pieces of a broken shell is a mystery. The menu said the broth of the mussel dish was spicy but too much of that hot spice was used so it overpowered the broth. The leads to the Mezza Platter. The Lebneh Chermoula had so much coriander(?) it overpowered all other flavors of the Lebneh; same for the Tahini Yogurt, we couldn't taste the yogurt, and we only knew the Beet Hummus had Beets in it because the menu said so and the color of it, reddish/pinkish; there was absolutely no beet flavor in the hummus. The best thing about the Mezza Platter was the Khobz bread, absolutely delicious but even that was a let down, because it would have been even better served warm. Despite that, the Khobz bread was the best thing we ate the entire evening. Le Tour didn't live up to the promise. Big letdown and disappointment. read more

The ambiance is terrific, as was some of the food. The tangine of chicken was quite good but the braised lamb was nearly inedible - dry and tough. The wine list is decent if a bit pricy for the offerings. I don't know what it is, but this mirrors my experiences at Found and The Barn. I went to Found many times over the years and about every fourth time would have something that was just off. The last time it was a tough pork shank, which I sent back only for it to be replaced with one just as tough. I've been to The Barn three times. Twice it was terrific, but the last time, when I was there on a business dinner, both of our steaks were so tough, they could barely be cut with steak knives. read more

The first time I ate at Le Tour we had a very good meal and great service. But I returned to with two friends a couple of months later and our experience was terrible. We had a wonderful waitress who did her best with a bad situation, but she was the only high note. We were seated at 7:15 and it took some time to get service as it was very busy. We ordered our cocktails and appetizer at the same time and the appetizers arrived before our drinks. The drinks arrived about ten minutes later. From there things got worse. The waitress suggested we order dinner as things were slow in the kitchen. We placed our order and bought a bottle of wine. Our food never arrived. By 8:45 we asked for more bread and information and we were moved to the bar area because where we were seated became very cold. Our food arrived at 9pm. Two of the entres were tasteless and not edible but mine was okay. The floor manager came over and after hearing about our experience and he said, "What would you like me to do?" My friend answered, "Your job." One of us was actually offered a cheeseburger! We nixed that and said they needed to comp our meals and our second bottle of wine as we wanted to go home. We ended up paying $120 for a bad experience but we did enjoy each other's company. I have not returned since then. read more

We had the Moroccan Eggplant & Chickpea Salad, Baked Camembert, Tagine of Chicken, Burger and mussels. We also tried the Gratin & Thumbelina Carrots. Everything was PHENOMENAL. I especially loved the mussels, they were so flavorful & fresh. Served with a delicious toasted sourdough bread. The best I've had in a while. Highly highly recommend.
