It had goat cheese on top which melted nicely and made each bite deliciously gooey. The greens on top balanced it out well. The fries were seasoned really well too. I enjoyed my mocktail, a take on an Aperol spritz. Kylie provided attentive service and gave me fantastic recommendations. I'm so glad she told me about the lamb burger. My friend enjoyed her Impossible Burger too. My friend and I were there catching up until closing and we weren't rushed out. While the interior made me feel warm and cozy, and our server was super down to earth and friendly. the food, however, did not give me the same warm and fuzzy feeling. Their Caesar salad tasted overly fishy from the dressing, so if you're into the anchovies you may like it more than I did. The sauce on the ribs was nice, but very sweet- again, you may enjoy it if you like sweeter sauces. I wasn't very impressed by the meat. The potatoes were solid, but it's pretty hard to mess up potatoes. I was actually hoping to check out Ward 8 the next door over, but found out they're closed for an autumn break. I was feeling a bit peckish (pun very much intended), and wanted a drink or two to close out the week. The Peckish Pig was right next door, so I decided to give it a go. Besides, I learned in college that if a place is busy on a Friday night, that's likely a good sign. What I got was a definition of a mixed experience. I had the opportunity to try a spicy blanco margarita, a seasonal mule, the chicken tinga tacos, and some sticky toffee pudding to close out the night. The Seasonal Mule went down like a Diet Pepsi. It wasn't very boozy, but was definitely very refreshing. I cannot say this one was very strong, or at least it wasn't very strong tasting. However, the Blanco Margarita, a couple sips in, hit me like a ton of bricks. This one was properly spicy, boozy, not overly sweet, and did the job well of washing away a difficult week. While maybe a little more tang would have been called for, the booziness more than made up for it. Now, a question to really boggle your mind is, was it all the margarita or was it the mule catching up to me? When it comes to the chicken tinga tacos, they came out so piping hot! The chicken was very tender and was nicely sauced, with the red sauce adding some herbal notes and the sour cream adding some savoriness. The kicker with this one is it was crying out for some contrasting textures, maybe some onion or something else that's crisp and fresh. Still, a solid product and a filling portion. I'd also like to give credit to the service. It was friendly, welcoming, and very fast, especially considering how busy the restaurant was that night. Then there comes the question of prices. While I wouldn't call the rates exorbitant, it did feel a bit on the higher side. Where it comes to the tacos, while not a rip-off, I am not convinced that such rates are justified. Final Verdict: The Peckish Pig makes for a wonderful spot to get together with some friends in a lively atmosphere. However, if you are seeking a mind-blowing food product or drink, this is likely not the place for you. P.S. With a name like that, I would assume there'd be more pork products on the menu! Just not as good as I remembered it to be, and I've been coming here for over 8 years bc I remember kiddo #1 celebrated her 1st birthday there, LOL. The pesto salmon special ($22) with risotto and asparagus on that night was muy underwhelming. While I love me a good salmon filet, this one was a bit dry, and also, I noticed the risotto had a strange cheese used in it, like when I scooped it up, it pulled away like the melted mozzarella in pizza, but not in a good way. Pass on this. My stomach was a bit unsettled after the meal too, and I don't know what it was from. We tried the salt and pepper wings and soft pretzel appetizers. There's nothing like warm pretzel bread with beer cheese! I would absolutely recommend that. The cocktails were about $14. Post-meal, we shared 2 orders of sticky toffee pudding. We actually double checked that it was the toffee pudding and not Texas chocolate sheet cake because it didn't look like a traditional bread pudding made of cut up carby pieces. Rather, it looked like a rectangular brownie in a pool of thick custard or creme. Great first experience at Peckish Pig! Came at around 11am on a Sunday, and split the Smoked Salmon plate and Breakfast Burrito (+ chorizo) with a friend. We were seated on the beautiful back patio, and were attended by a calm and knowledgeable server. He gave us some great recommendations as the brunch menu had quite a few tantalizing options. We settled on splitting a couple of dishes, and about 15 minutes after our order was placed the food arrived. The portions were generous! We actually wished that we had a second bagel for all of the cream cheese and salmon they gave us. Each dish was rich and salty, and if the breakfast burrito was just a touch more interesting (more spice?) it would have been absolutely stellar. 5 stars for the salmon, 3.5 for the burrito. The Peckish Pig is a terrific restaurant in south Evanston. I love the atmosphere of the back patio. On a nice day, I highly recommend sitting outside. We came for a flamenco night, enjoying not only cocktails & good food, but music and dancing as well. We shared bacon wrapped dates (mouthwatering) and a butternut squash appetizer- also fantastic! Our table ordered pizza, a sandwich, nachos, and a bowl with sweet potatoes (I can't remember the name of the dish). Cocktails were delightful & refreshing. Our service was terrific until it was time to wrap up. Our server hadn't been by in a while(10-15 minutes?), was nowhere to be found, and a different server we called over to help us settle our bill seemed annoyed with us at the request (and they didn't help us). My partner and I have eaten here a few times and the food is reliably good. My partner likes the lamb burger, this time I tried the fried chicken sandwich. This most recent visit I have to say the service we received was really hospitable and accommodating. We came to dine on a busy Friday night without a reservation, I expected a wait, but the host seated us right away! We found that our table was really sticky, so we asked if it could be wiped down. They sent two different people over to wipe down the table but found the table was just really sticky even after being cleaned. So then one of the gentleman busing tables came and brought out an entirely new table for us! I wish I had gotten his name because he deserves a big shout out for being so kind to us! We came in for an early dinner with friends. We received the most friendly welcomes from the front of house and our drinks and food wesre amazing! Unfortunately, our waitress was awful! I've been a loyal customer of this restaurant since they first opened and have always enjoyed supporting them. I've recommended it to friends and family, visited regularly, and have always treated the staff with respect. Unfortunately, my experience tonight was incredibly disappointing. My cousin and I sat at the bar, ordered drinks, and were served. A short time later, another bartender approached us and told us that someone on the staff was uncomfortable serving us and that we needed to leave. We were never told that we had done anything inappropriate, nor were we given any explanation beyond that statement. We asked for clarification but left without understanding what had happened. The only conclusion we can come to is that this may have been a case of mistaken identity. If that's true, it's deeply concerning that such a serious decision was made without taking a moment to verify who we were or to explain the situation. After we left, I called the restaurant in hopes of speaking with a manager and getting some clarity. I was told the manager was too busy to speak with me and that one of the owners would contact us. Unfortunately, that call never came. The lack of follow-up only added to the frustration and confusion surrounding the entire experience. What made this especially upsetting was our history with this restaurant. We've been loyal patrons since it opened, have always supported the business, and have consistently shown our appreciation for the staff. To be asked to leave without explanation, then be unable to get any answers afterward, was embarrassing, confusing, and honestly ruined our evening. I'm not writing this out of anger--I genuinely want to understand what happened. If this was a misunderstanding or a case of mistaken identity, I hope management takes the time to investigate it and communicate with us. This experience was completely at odds with the hospitality we've always associated with this restaurant. Firstly, for a place with "pig" in its name, the baby back ribs were awful, barely edible - they were somehow both burned black and fall-off-the-bone, very little flavor, and little sauce as well (with no side sauce). There are so many other restaurants that make better ribs (L Woods, Aroma Pizzeria) which is really disappointing. This is the third or fourth time we've eaten here and for sure the last. Each time service takes forever. The servers are hit or miss, for the most part, some friendly, some not, but they are all just absent. Food could take 30-60 minutes to arrive after you have already ordered. Once my wife ordered lunch and 20 minutes later they said they were out of what she ordered. This happened with the next order too, taking 60 minutes for her lunch to arrive! The hostess was friendly. The restaurant itself was packed, pretty loud, but overall a nice atmosphere. It was a sunny but brisk day and we decided to sit out on the patio. The patio area has a great feel to it as it's a private area with overhanging lights and heat warmer/lamps. Service was pretty good as we requested they turn on the heat lamps and our food came out quickly. The bacon was nice and crisp while the date was soft and sweet. The cheese sauce did not have much taste and I preferred the dates on their own small. Didn't get a chance to try the pretzel as it was gone before I could take one. The buffalo chicken sandwich had pretty good flavor. Buffalo sauce had nice heat, great crunch from arugula but the slaw could have used more punch. Bun was nice with buttered top and crispy inside. Chicken portion was big and not dry. Breading was not very thick and had almost a thistle like texture to it. Short rib pappardella pasta was ok. Nothing spectacular and nothing bad. Star of all the food was the Thai curry mussels. Broth had a nice richness and a little heat from the curry. Overall food was pretty good but rating due to pricing/portion. read more

Once seated we had to wait for someone to come and take our drink orders then waited another 20 minutes for someone to take our dinner orders . Finally made it into Peckish Pig and it's street pahking so it can be a little tricky off of Howard. This is more like a 2.5 star review, due to the burger being well done, as opposed to rare. Also, we were made to feel a bit rushed by one of the servers. It was filling up but a few minutes won't hurt your bottom line. "Can I take your water?" - I would just let people check out leisurely, it's Saturday, noon, on Howard St. We got there at about 11:15 and left at about 12:30, some folks who arrived earlier than us were still there when we left. The scones with strawberry jam and whipped cream (not clotted cream) was good (nothing beats Rathbaun Farm's scones in Galway, Ireland). My fish and chips was excellent, light and crispy batter along with flakey, soft and piping hot cod. The chips also had a nice thickness. Food is terrible. I've tried this place a couple of times for dinner and have been dissatisfied every time. I did have brunch there with some friends once and it was OK, but I think there are much better places to have brunch. The service is OK but nothing to be impressed about. Feeling Peckish? No we were feeling ravenous when we stopped for brunch at Peckish Pig. This stretch of Howard is pretty close to Chicago, I thought it was in Chicago. We found parking pretty close to the restaurant. It was a lovely afternoon and very warm and we opted to sit indoors rather than out on the patio. We had made a reservation so we were seated right away. Don't know if it was because I indicated we were celebrating a birthday, or not, but we were presented with warm fresh donuts while we perused the menu. Lots of brunch- lunch options though looking at the regular menu I was a little bummed because I would have ordered the bacon/ wrapped dates or the bacon fat popcorn. (It is named Peckish Pig after all). We ordered some scones to share and these we split and spread with Devon cream and strawberries and strawberry jam. The scones were wonderful and slightly crunchy on the edges. We loved this. A cup of coffee was cold so we sent it back and received a piping hot cup. Our table ordered cheesy grits, double smash burger, Beyond Burger, fish and chips, chicken and waffles, berry pancakes, and a salmon burger. We loved the fried chicken (they thought the waffles were meh), salmon burger was good, fries ok a little too brown, fish and chips and pancakes were devoured. Burger seemed a little dry but good. I went to the bathroom and the smoking smell from the kitchen was fantastic. It turns out that later in the afternoon was the annual pig roast. I'm sure that was amazing judging by the scintillating aromas wafting from the kitchen. It's hard when our group gets together because there's one vegetarian, two picky eaters, two lo carb diets, smaller appetites, etc. The restaurant did a great job at catering to all our tastes, serving us in a timely manner, being patient with our group. We had a nice meal and were able to enjoy ourselves without any rush. I will have to come back for the bacon wrapped dates and some of their other tempting apps. read more

We dropped in to Peckish Pig after another event. The food was like at that event, and we were hungry. We had parked fairly close to Peckish Pig. It was a little bit after 8 PM, so we dropped into the bar and asked if the kitchen was still open. We were surprised to find that their beers are made in their small microbrewery, My husband and I each got a bowl of potato leek soup, and we shared with the beet salad with salmon. Everything was love made, and the salads had so much flavor! I had a lovely fruited IPA, and my husband had an amber beer. The bartender was very nice and the service was good. My husband and I stopped here for a quick breakfast after Evanston farmers market. We got there about an hour before lunch service, which was perfect bc we definitely wanted breakfast and coming at that time, we had our choice of seats, and not only were they happy to have us, but they weren't going to even offer lunch until another hour from then. My husband had a kimchi hash skillet and I got the regular breakfast ie 2 eggs with (gf for me!) toast and bacon, plus i ordered a side of fruit and OJ. It was still hot outside so we stayed indoors, which gave us a nice view of the bar and its many options in case we might come back at a later time to relax with appetizers and drinks. Our food arrived pretty quickly- my husband's dish while somewhat small ie one egg, was very rich, with strong kimchi flavor and medium to hot heat, which he truly enjoyed. On the flip side, he said he had trouble finding the actual kimchi, but then he said the flavors were there. He did not like that his meal was mostly potatoes, even though it was called a hash skillet. But overall, he enjoyed the dish and he would've given it a very high rating if the ingredients were more evenly present and tasty throughout. My poached eggs and bacon and toast were perfectly done, and our server was right there with ketchup and other seasonings. While I only got one piece of toast I have to say if they had given me two I'm not sure I would've eaten them both because I was looking for a quick low cal meal. In the area of service, our server forgot to order the fruit dish and quickly brought it after I realized it was missing, and even though we didn't say anything he assured us that this was going to be taken off the bill as it arrived when we had eaten everything else. All in all I would go back, but next time I would definitely order a more signature dish, especially since it was me who decided to get what could only be described or prepared as a very standard meal. I love the ambience of this place, a friendliness of the wait staff and the many choices available for a unique breakfast dining experience. read more

The margarita and the non-alcoholic cocktail were fabulous. The food however, was meh. The pulled pork nachos looked okay. just the pork with a little cream. no salsa, guac or other normal nacho toppings. The chips were crispy but half the porks was dried out. Like they put it under a broiler to warm it up and it dried out the top of the pot and maddest tough. The salad wa lettuce and some halved cherry tomatoes with a tasteless balsamic dressing. The ribs were blanched and no smoke. with BBQ sauce. tender but tasteless. the fries were just okay and the beans were generic canned beans. The mussels came fin a large bowl. The sauce was decent and the bread crusty and perfect for dipping. 70% of the mussels were plump but the others were dried out like they had been microwaved or something. Service was quick. Not sure what's going on at Peckish Pig but we have had multiple poor experiences here in the last 18 months. Last time, they were out of multiple items but only told us this if we ordered it so we kept having to scramble to pick something else. Tonight we gave it another chance. It was awful -- service was inattentive and very slow. We waited about 10 minutes seated at our table before our waiter came and took a drink order. Our main courses came really close to our appetizers and no one took dirty dishes away. My husband wanted a second drink but was never asked. We had to ask for our check. There was a manager walking around filling salt shakers, never checking on customers or making eye contact. The food was mediocre -- whipped goat cheese is yummy, fries are great. Just a place that doesn't feel like it cares much about its customers. read more
