I don't know if I visited this shop on and off day, but I intend to give it another try and up my rating as a result. We went on a Saturday, hoping to browse some games. There was an event taking place, with many patrons playing a card-based strategy game toward the back. Good crowd and everyone seemed to be having fun. Retro game selection was impressive. Plenty to look through if that was your goal. However, we were hoping to pick up some newer games and simultaneously support a small, local, business. Selection of newer stuff was nominal, which was disheartening. Staff said hello, but never approached, never offered to help or strike up conversation. Prices were a bit higher than anticipated. However, I'd willingly pay it to support a local, non-chain, store. However, there wasn't much for me here when I visited. read more

What can I say this store is great!!. Employee's are so nice. Prices are can't be beat !!! Selection of retro games is awesome. Keep coming back to see what new stuff came in and there is always new stuff. The leagues for card games are run so nicely and everybody who places is so friendly. An independent video game and CCG store with exactly the right vibe and enthused, supportive, non-threatening nerds behind the counter. I recently purchased an Analogue Pocket that's spurred a resurgent interest in Game Boy and SNES games. Inside I found plenty of Game Boy Advance, NES, and SNES cartridges, and even a well aged SNES console. Plus N64, GameCube, Wii, and Wii U choices. It's obviously not a complete collection, but there's so much stuff inside that I effectively relived my 90's and aughts in the space of half an hour. When we stopped in, a regular was relating a story about grinding for some item (I'll be honest, all that stuff blurs together), and the staff was convincing me that they really cared, despite them clearly not knowing the game or item in question. If I played CCGs I'm sure I'd appreciate the shelves and shelves of singles that are laid out at the front. Prices seemed fine. They had an out-of-box Mario Wiimote for $35, Dragonball Z figurines for $30 each (2 for $50), a used Xbox 360 console for $100. read more

Went back in to give them another shot and the person who was working was one of the nicest and down to earth people I've met. He was patient and enthusiastic about the different card games we spoke about and really made for a pleasant experience. The employee who gave me a bad taste from my last review must not work there any longer or must be an outlier as I really enjoyed giving them business this time. HOSTILE SCAM ARTIST!!! Beware doing business with them, they seem very nice when you're purchasing stuff. God forbid you want to return it cause that's when the honeymoon is over, they are very nasty with people when comes to that. nonetheless rip you off in "store credit" compared to how much you originally paid for it since you can't get money back on a used game even after a day purchasing. If your a gamer, a parent or a newcomer to local game stores this is not how a legit business should run their store for local people in NJ, just go to your local GameStop, micro center or Amazon their warranty is amazing. Cynthia has the worse customer service I have ever received. From the moment we walked in without even looking at any game we where bringing in she said "I won't take any scratched games". She then proceeded to look through all the games and consoles. She then gave us a price then when we asked for an extra 20$ for over 100 games she said "I didn't even want to do this". This is quite a nice hidden gem out in Pompton Plains. I was in the area checking out the Goodwill on 23 when I noticed a video game shop I had never heard of before. Naturally, I had to stop and check it out. In a word...AWESOME. It's a video game store that stocks current and retro games at pretty fair prices. I don't know of another brick and mortar retro game shop in the area outside of Digital Press, so any addition helps. I picked up a few Genesis games and a controller. The games seemed to range from 3 bucks and up. As an aside, there was definitely some pretty interesting things in the shop that day...like a Virtual Boy! Seeing as I had never actually played one, I asked to check it out and the lady working was super cool. I can say first hand that I can see why the system was such a huge failure and it was all thanks to Level 1 that I had a chance to even check it out.. Overall, the shopping experience was too notch. A pretty good game selection and the nice lady running the shop made it a worthy stop! read more

I love this place! I went with a friend to trade Nintendo and Xbox360 games and they give you the choice of straight cash or credit. The price I got back for my Xbox360 games was very fair. I used store credit because I wanted to buy their Splatoon 2 game on the shelf. They have a wide arrange of retro games from every era such as Super Nintendo, Nintendo, GameCube, N64, PS1, Genesis, ect. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. You can tell they are passionate about video games and will go into wonderful conversations with you about them! This store also sales Magic Cards and video game memorabilia. Never knew this place existed. A true hidden gem. Met one of the owners who was SUPER kind and knowledgable. Store had a bunch of people in there playing card games and the dude was so patient with me and all the other customers as well (including little kids!) Thank goodness I found this place, Digital Press in clifton hasn't been doing it for me anymore. Anyway, they have ALOT of stuff from video games, to statues to TCGs, etc. Atari 2600 to xbox one and everything in between. Go support this place! They do offer disc resurfacing as well for cheap! read more

Not a huge of fan of this place but it's not bad if you have nothing else at your disposal. Prices can be more then Gamestop on certain things, and really not a fan of the basic printer paper artwork they make for games and try to sell off as complete. This place should do a serious overhaul to their inventory and not just go off of highest listings on eBay. Stick with digital press and Gamestop. read more

The premiere video game and card shop in Pompton Plains is seriously the best place to play Magic the Gathering and Pokemon in NJ, hands down. Filled to the brim with friendly faces and always fun for both hard core TCG players as well as those new to the game. Level 1 is my favorite place in the world! Don't play card games? That's cool. Such a great place. Very calm atmosphere and the employee (blue hair) working during our visit was so friendly and inviting. They have tables set up for card games and table topping and the majority of game prices were beyond affordable. They have games from most, if not all, eras. I went in just to see but couldn't help but walk out with a game. They even clean the disk before giving it to you. My new favorite game spot. read more

Was recommended to come here by a friend as my son is very much into Pokemon at the moment. They have tournament style play on Saturday afternoons at 4PM for every age and experience level. My son (7 yrs old) is a newbie, so he did not understand the game play of the card game. One of the employees, Josh, spent about 45 mins with him and me to explain the rules and game play so that he would be able to compete in the afternoon's event. I was so impressed by the care they take to make sure everyone understands the rules and they were very accommodating to the questions that he had even during the tournament. I would highly recommend this place as a stop to look for any Pokemon type stuff. The staff is very knowledgeable and even friendlier to deal with. Not to mention, they also sold used games for just about every game console out there going all the way back to Coleco-Vision and the Atari 2600.
