We stopped by after a kids show next door on a Saturday afternoon. The shop is tiny but it looks like the bakery portion is huge and they brought out multiple fresh donuts when the donuts in the case were running low. The donuts were all delicious and I had no idea they were vegan! The shop was clean and cute. We loved everything about our experience at Level 5 Donuts!

Absolutely the very best!!! Get there early for the best picks! Sundays are cinnamon rolls too!!!! They are closed Monday and Tuesdays. Always SO good and the staff is so nice. This is my weekly go to for yummy vegan donuts and they do have gluten free as well :)

Delicious donuts, and a unique variety! Small storefront with a few tables inside but mostly meant for pickup/carry out.

Great vegan donuts. Check their Instagram in the morning for flavor options. There is a line outside because you place your order when you walk in. The line moves quickly.

Located on Madison's East Side, Level Five Donuts is a small shop tucked inside a space marked by the words "Fortune Favors" above the door and skull-and-crossbones posters in the window. I visited on a weekday morning and easily found free street parking nearby. The shop itself is cozy, with only a couple of tables for dining in. I've read that it's quite popular and often has long lines, but there was no wait during my visit. All of their donuts are vegan and priced around $4-$5 each. They're all yeast-based, with the round donuts featuring different icings and toppings rather than fillings. Flavors on the menu included chocolate, churro, s'mores, peach cobbler, and watermelon & mint, among others. I tried peach cobbler and watermelon & mint, which both had a sweet icing with a subtle hint of mint for the latter. One thing to note is that these yeast donuts are quite dense, which I enjoyed--more substantial than the light and airy style you might expect from places like Krispy Kreme. The staff was super friendly and happy to answer questions about the flavors. At $4 each, I do find them a bit pricey, so while I enjoyed my visit, I'd probably only stop by again if I'm in the neighborhood.

I stopped by for a quick donut. There were some really unique flavors. Blueberry lemon donut was my favorite one. Mango con Chile was a very unique flavor. It was not spicy, but was a nice twist. I liked that as well.

I usually don't like donuts but I wanted to try these after hearing good things. The Key Lime and Raspberry Sweet Corn were so good. I really appreciated that the frosting wasn't overly sweet. flavor combinations were creative without being overwhelming. Location is cute, inside/ next to fortune flavors. Staff were super nice

Made it to Level 5 after hearing colleague's recommendation. Plenty of street parking on a weekday morning, and the shop is tiny but cute--look for the Fortune Favors and a small Level 5 banner in the window. Flavors range from plain to churros to peach cobbler to watermelon mint All are yeast donuts, bigger than Krispy Kreme and about the size of Voodoo Doughnut in Portland, OR--dense, heavy, and $4 each. The dough's the same; the personality comes from the glaze. This place gives off the Voodoo vibe. They also sell coffee and got a few small tables for dine-in. Tasty? Yes. Expensive? A little. But hey, it's Atwood so you're paying for rent and hipness with your sugar rush.

Level 5 has been making incredible vegan donuts for years now, selling out of coffee shops/grocery stores/local pop-ups. I know I'm not the only one that is thrilled to see them finally have a storefront--that means consistent availability and way more flavors. They've only been open a few weeks and I hear the lines on weekends are nearly around the block, but I stopped in on a Wednesday morning around 8am and there was no line, friendly service, and plentiful options. The Boston Dream and Everything Bagel Bites are delicious but you really can't go wrong here. There's even a small gluten-free selection. The shop is fairly small but it has a few tables for dining in. It doesn't matter if you're vegan or not, these are just stellar donuts that anyone can appreciate!

Level 5 Donuts, certainly does not stay inside the lines. I love the fact that they are dedicated to trying and using the many options of colors, flavors and textures in their donuts. I bought 2 of each of the 6 different donut flavors that they had available. (Go early for more flavors I'm guessing) The red velvet/red crumbles/white frosting was fantastic. Not too sweet, but very well balanced between the darker taste of the cake donut and the brightness of the vanilla frosting. The frosting is a simple glaze, not a layer of sugary drywall mud to cover up the sins of a bad cake texture. The donut (cake) is soft and spongy, but still holds a perfect form and circle. The blueberry frosted donut was my second favorite. Stellar color and detail, very smooth and creamy. I appreciate the fact that they are using real blueberries, where you still can see and feel the little specks of blueberry in every bite. Good sized donut as well not too small and not too large. They also offered a cherry in the middle/crumbles/pineapple donuts, a lavender, and an orange flavored donut. I personally liked the red velvet and blueberry donuts the best. Where so many places these days are just crushing up cereal or cookies and using a lot of the same styles, presentations and flavors this was something different! And I truly appreciate that! The place is clean, very well organized, and the staff was very kind and attentive. I also dig the fact that they are using a large pizza box to carry out 12 donuts. Simple but very effective. And I am not a vegan, but this place is. I was pretty shocked by that as I just went there in search of donuts in Madison. This was my favorite among the other 2 that I stopped at. Easy to get to, great location and a very quaint setting with its surrounding area. I'll post the only picture I have but please know that right at the moment I took the picture the box started to slide a bit and when my wife saved it from falling it did move some of the donuts around. I live an hour away from them but the drive is definitely worth it and I would highly recommend Level 5 Donuts

Lovely little donut shop! The owner answered our questions about what it means to be vegan and gluten free. And the donuts were delicious!

Greenbush has quite a selection and we found out you can also place a specialty order within 24 hours of desired pickup. Longer business hours than most other bakeries / donut shops. Interior is spacious and inviting if you choose to sit down to enjoy your bakery goodies. They also have a small area set aside as a "gift shop". Staff is very friendly and helpful when trying to decide what you want from all the delicious choices. Highly recommend Greenbush Bakery!

The bakery is a nice combination of a new store with plenty of old school feel. The donuts are displayed both in the glass cases up front and on the trays on the back wall. The selection is very good with plenty of donut styles and flavors. I ended up getting an apple cinnamon sour cream donut and a chocolate filled stick. Donut prices were a bit expensive, $4.65 for 2 donuts. The donuts were OK, but not great, a bit dry and not as flavorful as I would expect. The apple cinnamon flavor was a bit muted and the filling of the stick was chocolate pudding rather then chocolate creme. I would have liked to try one of the apple fritters, while they were huge $5 seemed excessive. If the other donuts were better I might have grabbed one the next day for the drive home. Maybe my expectations were too high but I just found Greenbush Bakery to be a bit of a disappointment. Certainly not bad, but I have had much better donuts.

They've since expanded to numerous locations across the U.S. and even overseas. Their mascot is Ollie the Duck, who can be found on the sign and packaging. I learned a few things on my first visit. All the donuts are cake style donuts (as opposed to raised/yeast, which I tend to prefer) and they're made to order. The made to order is a pro and a con as you don't have to stress that they will sell out, but you might have to wait a bit for your order. You can also order ahead, but at this time there is no app and I had issues (which were resolved) with placing an order on their website. Being October and a lover of pumpkin desserts, I had to try the Glazed Pumpkin Spice Donut. It comes glazed with cinnamon sugar and pumpkin spice buttercream. The body of the donut was heavy, dense, and pleasantly chewing with just the right amount of moistness and not too dry and cakey. Flavor was sweet, buttery, and of course pumpkin with hints of cinnamon. I loved the gritty sugar granules, but they were sadly confined to just the pumpkin buttercream island in the center. I'm always a little anxious that a pumpkin spice dessert will be too spicy or a burning spice, but this was sweet, not overpowering, and delicious.
