I stumbled upon it while researching spots to hit up while in Madison and I'm so excited to report that their cake donuts are EVERYTHING. There was a line when we arrived around 10:30am but there were just enough donuts left to create a yummy assortment half dozen. We picked out 6 different sour cream old fashioned cake donuts and they were each lovely cake donut perfection. From the original sour cream and blueberry to powdered... I was pleased. This location has some street parking in front. The staff was friendly and efficient. I was here picking up a custom order. I called ahead to order 2 boxes or donut holes (they don't always sell donut holes so it is best to pre-order). I had called 2 days prior to the day I needed to pick them up. I'm only giving it 4 stars because the old fashioned cherry and blueberry donuts don't taste much like cherry or blueberry. Life is short, but donut reviews are too great to pass up. Was in town for the evening and at the recommendation of some friends got a half dozen from Greenbush. Went with a large variety of their glazed, some sprinklers, and assortment of the old fashioned from the original to cherry. The old fashioned were the best in my opinion as they were large, super funky and chunk looking, with the right amount of glaze. The sprinkles were fairly basic ranging from cake donuts to original and had a good amount of topping. OREO Doughnut: Greenbush Bakery opened its doors in 1996 and in 1998 it became a certified kosher dairy kitchen (the only one between Minneapolis, MKE, and Chicago to this day). Although I got my degree from UW, I somehow went the entire four years without trying a single doughnut from Greenbush Bakery. Don't worry, I've since made up for it and now make it a priority to stop whenever I'm back on campus. Their OREO Doughnut is a massive Bismark with chocolate icing covered in OREO crumbles with a center containing an OREO crème flavored filling. The filling nailed the OREO crème flavor but had a better texture that was more liquid/creamy than the somewhat dry crème in OREOs. This was the second time I've had this doughnut and although I enjoyed it, it was much better the last time I was there. When I went in 2022 it was absolutely stuffed with OREO crème flavored filling and this time around, I ate almost half the doughnut before getting any crème (I was actually beginning to worry it wasn't even filled by mistake). Now here is how you know this is a real bakery with the best ingredient: it smells so good when you walk in, you wanna eat the air. Go into Dunkin donuts for example (or a McDonald's for that matter): it smells like...hand sanitizer, and the vague smell of people with their own scents and odors, perhaps some Clorox from the bathroom. I did share the dozen donuts. with several people and everyone liked them. We cut them all into four pieces and we definitely all got a sample all the different kind of donuts there were. we went to work and everyone at work agreed very extremely delicious. I was in the area, and ended up at Greenbush. Everyone I dealt with was super nice, and the atmosphere was very basic bakery - nothing super fancy, but clean and welcoming. All the donuts I got were amazing, and it definitely lived up to the hype! The only thing I didn't like was that Long John's are only in Fri/Saturday, and I was leaving Thursday. I've stopped here multiple times... always a great experience! Hands down the best donut shop in Madison. The service is super quick, usually in and out in about 5 minutes even if you're ordering a few dozen! The prices are very reasonable for the quality too You know it's going to be a good day at work when someone brings in Greenbush! Found myself in the mood for something sweet after dinner downtown and Yelp did not disappoint. I walked on down to Greenbush and am very glad I did. Now, I wanted an Apple Fritter but after seeing the size of one and knowing I had a full day of flying/travel the next day, I opted to go with something a bit safer and indulged on a classic honey glazed donut and a cinnamon roll. Greenbush Bakery makes Madison. Seriously it's these kind of places that make a city what it is. I was bummed when they had to move from their original building across the street to the newer place. It's about vibes. But there's some patio seating and a place for the line to form safely on the north side of the street. Plug for the holiday themed donuts that sometimes are offered. I've also been out to the second shop on the east side which has no vibe but the donuts are still as tasty. So do that if you're way over there! Some things shouldn't change and Greenbush Bakery is one of those. These are the only donuts I will eat. Don't waste your carbs or calories on anything but Greenbush Bakery donuts. Will update once I get a shot at the giant fritter but wasn't as impressed as I hoped I would be so far. Got the cherry old fashioned which was good, not great. I was hoping for more of a cherry flavor... I'd give it 7/10. Then I tried the caramel-filled buttermilk bar but it didn't taste like normal caramel and it was only filled in one end. Pretty good texture and glaze but nothing to go out of the way. Update: I'm gonna stick with the three stars. I got the blueberry fritter and it was certainly tasty and I liked the size because I prefer to eat the crispy edges. Reasonably priced for what you get but it really lacked blueberry flavor. This has been consistent in all the donuts I've had here. We also tried the blueberry with maple frosting and the blueberry old fashioned. Best donuts in Madison! They have a great variety. I went around Valentine's day weekend and got their heart donut which was a frosted sprinkle donut with no filling. It was light and airy and not too sweet. My boyfriend got the chocolate donut, but preferred mine. I have gotten their donuts in the past and they have never disappointed! Only thing negative about this place is that they don't label their donuts. It is a bit annoying to have to ask them what each donut is, and as someone who is allergic to nuts it can get difficult when you aren't sure which donuts are placed next to the one you want. I visited Greenbush Bakery just two days after they moved across Regent Street. I love the new place! It's way roomier than the original store. There is seating inside and out. Same rules apply people...GET THERE EARLY for the best selection!!! We dropped in at 10:00 a.m. and thought there may be Apple Fritters available, but no. There were Blueberry Fritters so we snagged one. We were extremely happy with the Blueberry Fritter. It was soooo huge, the paper plate disappeared underneath it.
