Expecting good craftsmanship and a timely project completion should be a given but is often not. Marius and team delivered there even with some curve balls (we ended up doing more than initially intended) we threw their way. Marius was able to manage all balls in the air and still manage to complete the project within an acceptable timeline. You can't always plan on vendors having sourcing issues on materials. Or having damaged or wrong delivered fixtures or appliances and other random setbacks. But they managed to deal with and remediate all the issues and keep our project moving forward. What we really appreciated was their professionalism, communication and responsiveness. He kept us updated on any project needs or timeline updates.Their ability to manage the project, warn and educate us on potential issues and provide solutions or remediations quickly. What can I say? They were great and if I ever had to do this again, we'd hire him again. We've passed his contact to a few friends and acquaintances already. Now, whether he'd do work for us again? This review is of A M Construction based in Antioch, CA. (There are other listings with the name…read more"Meneses" that are not in Antioch.) This is not your usual review. I am not a customer. I'm across the street from the customer. I'm writing it because it's the 3rd major construction project in this immediate area in the last several years, one more to go. Three of the four were/are about a year-and-a-half long. I'm writing because I've discovered that there can be significant differences from one construction company to the next when it comes to neighborhood relations. Hire these guys! They don't abuse the work-hour limits set by the city (Albany) like the others, who would often start early or run a long time after they were supposed to quit in the evening. They ease up on weekends out of regard for the neighborhood and often don't work on Sunday at all. The break from construction activity is very welcome. But even in that area, (construction noise) they're better than the rest. I thought they seemed quieter than the others and out of curiosity asked a supervisor, thinking I was just imagining it. Turns out it's deliberate. For instance, how many guys are 'hammering' at the same time, time of day, day of week. They try to intelligently decrease the noise they create as much as they can, as appropriately as they can. They also try to be considerate about parking. They know there's an area a half-block away with parking not in front of anyone's door. They seem to pick up on the difference between an empty parking space that's due to a car being gone all day (to a day job), from an empty space that is used by someone who's based at home all day and empty only because the person is off on an errand for a couple hours. In the latter case they try to limit using that space to once a week. If you're planning a construction project there's no getting away from the fact that it's going to be intrusive to your neighbors noise-wise and parking-wise. They won't be thrilled to have the disruption. How refreshing that this company (A M Construction in Antioch) acts like they realize that too, and try to be considerate when they can. If you care about the effect your plans will have on your neighbors, hire these guys! (Bonus: there's kind of a nice vibe coming off this group. They seem to like each other and enjoy working together.) P.S. I read the other customer reviews for the first time after writing the above. I'm not surprised by what I read. It was a complicated project with neighborhood hearings, permits, inspections, and a seemingly endless number of decisions, and he did a great job helping us navigate all of it. We didn't use an architect or a designer, meaning we relied entirely on Yaniv's expertise to brainstorm layout and design ideas. He was a great sounding board, incredibly clear in his communication, and an expert at navigating the complex web of California building codes and city permits. He made it explicitly clear what decisions were required on our end and guided us through what I thought was an overwhelming process. We also appreciated how accommodating he was while we were dealing with construction during the pandemic with a baby. We had to move out temporarily for the demo portion, but Yaniv worked hard to accommodate our schedule so we could move back in sooner rather than later. I've stumbled on a fabulous contractor!…read more Our home is 8 years old, and we shouldn't have had the water leakage we had. The shower in the second bath had been leaking, causing extensive damage. We had to completely replace the bathroom due to water infiltration, as well as some sheetrock in the dining room and the second bedroom. When I was in my 20s, I would have repaired myself, but now I'm in a wheelchair and decisively, not 20!! I was referred to a contractor from Concord named Yaniv Taragano, of Taragano Design and Build, and that was the best referral ever! We also had other projects in mind: replace the kitchen sink with a copper one, replace the under-cabinet lights, install two ceiling fans, add "can lights" to the main bedroom, add a pot-filler, replace the bathtub, add a door to the laundry room, and re-paint the interior. Yaniv saved us a bunch of money throughout the project. For instance, he color-matched the wall paint exactly, so only a touch-up was necessary to achieve beautiful walls! He's bonded and insured, and most importantly, he and his people are very careful. I also checked out his license, and there was not a single blemish. He was very timely, and he or his foreman came every day on time. His workers were very cognizant that we still lived in the house and carefully cleaned up every day. Out of the companies that responded through Yelp, he came across as one of the most professional and serious about understanding the project rather than simply giving a quick estimate. He replied quickly to my questions through Yelp and was able to come out in a very reasonable timeframe to evaluate the work and discuss ideas in person. We hired Moe and the Optivest Build team for a decorative pergola/faux balcony repair and replacement project involving redwood, exterior trim work, stucco work, door jamb and casing repairs, sealing, and painting. The contract process was straightforward and I appreciated the flexibility and payment structure based on project milestones rather than everything being front-loaded. After Moe's initial site visit and evaluation, it became clear that a more comprehensive rebuild approach for most of the structure made more sense than piecemeal repairs. Moe explained the long-term benefit of rebuilding the deteriorated portions together rather than replacing isolated components now and potentially dealing with additional mobilization and repair costs again a few years later. I appreciated that he was not simply replacing wood, but also improving areas where the original design appeared to contribute to moisture issues. As the project progressed and portions were opened up, some additional weather and age-related deterioration was uncovered, which led to a few adjustments and additional repair steps along the way. Moe worked with me through options for addressing things as they were discovered and helped walk me through the process and next steps, which reduced some of the stress and uncertainty that can come with larger exterior repair projects. What stood out to me was that Moe stayed involved throughout the project, communicated with me consistently, personally came by to check on things, and had his project manager and crew return when touch-up or punch-list items needed attention. Even as the scope evolved, Moe stayed engaged throughout the project and continued working through follow-up, touch-up, and close-out items professionally. The crew was always polite and respectful of our property, worked hard throughout the project, and the project was fully cleaned up and closed out professionally at the end. No construction project is completely stress-free, but I appreciated that concerns were addressed and that the team worked to make things right when needed. I contacted Natan from Northwest Builders and Renovations in Walnut Creek to get a bid on a kitchen…read moreremodel project. I chose his company over the other one that bid the project because Natan gave me confidence that they knew what they were doing, especially for the part of the project that involved a load bearing wall. He is a hell of a salesman. He agreed that they could provide everything the other company had bid but this was not the case. When we met for the bid, Natan assured me that my kitchen remodel project would take two weeks and that the cost was firm. He told me I could have any cabinet finish and quartz I wanted. I even showed him a sample of what I wanted the cabinets to look like and he agreed. Once it was time to order the cabinets it turned out I only actually had a choice of 7 cabinet finishes and none of them were like what I had showed him. For context, both the other contractor I talked to and Home Depot had samples of the finish I wanted so it wasn't like I had chosen something outlandish. Timeline: They demolished my kitchen on May 11th and work was finally completed 6 weeks later. I would not have proceeded if I had known it would take that long. My kitchen, laundry, living room and garage were unusable the entire time. There were also boxes and other debris all over my deck as well as my dishwasher sitting out on the deck uncovered. I got up in the middle of the night when it rained to cover it. There were many days when no one showed up and one time when no one showed up for 9 days straight. I begged him to keep the project going but he told me they couldn't because the countertop was taking so long to cut. That turned out not to be true. At the end of the 9 days the quartz cutter came to measure the counters and told me they had only just received the quartz and would not start cutting it for 2 days. Besides, there was plenty of other work like putting on the cabinet doors and finishing the laundry area that they could have been doing while waiting for the countertops. That is when I stopped trusting what I was being told. Cost: I agreed to pay an additional $2000 for an additional slab of quartz because I didn't like the plain grey countertops they wanted to use. It ended up to be more than was needed for my project so Natan suggested that I pay an additional $2000 to install the quartz all of the way up to the bottom of the cabinets instead of a 4" backsplash. I declined. He did it anyway and did not charge me. I had to pay an additional $4200 to replace the kitchen floor. When he quoted the project we agreed it did not need to be replaced because I had just replaced it 3 years earlier. It got hacked up when the bottom cabinets were installed and a patch job would have looked awful so it needed to be replaced. Communication: Communication was really poor. I had no idea what was going on or when anyone was actually going to show up to work on the project. No one told me they were proceeding with the white cabinets and grey countertops until I asked when I could pick the cabinet finish and quartz. They encountered a problem when opening up a wall but didn't discuss it with me until I asked 5 weeks later and it turned out that they couldn't do what we had agreed. Project Management: Natan said that either he or his project manager would be onsite every day to supervise the work and ensure it was done correctly. Neither one of them was ever there when the workers were so I basically had to make sure things were getting done. Natan kept asking what was left to be done. Had they come, I believe many of the issues could have been avoided. His crew clearly needed guidance. Natan had promised that his team would be on site to receive delivery of the cabinets on 5/14/2026. They were not. I was unable to be there so had to have a neighbor come and receive the delivery. Good thing I have Google Translate because that's what I needed to talk to his workers. Quality: The main issue was everything being installed backwards. My washer dryer hookups were installed backwards. The HVAC control was installed backwards and I had to pay an HVAC tech to come fix it. My dishwasher was hooked up backwards and spewed into my sink when it emptied but Natan refused to have someone come fix it so I had to pay a plumber to come fix it. Garbage disposal was also incorrectly installed. The kitchen was painted a different color and you can see the old color half way down beside the refrigerator and beside the dishwasher. The baseboards were just hacked off at the end rather than being joined at an angle and exposed the raw wood and some are flat and others molded so look like scraps were used. There's more but you get the idea. In the end, my kitchen is beautiful and if they worked the way they did the final week when they wanted me to sign off on the project and pay them it actually could have been done in the 2 weeks that he promised.
