*** nostalgia central alert *** If you grew up playing Super Mario Bros, Duck Hunt, Battle Toads, Contra, Dr. Mario, Tetris, and the likes then this place is for you. Came here because I need to get a PS3 controller for my kids. No, they do not play video games but the console acts as their Blu-Ray player. They had plenty of used PS2 controllers on sale but none for the PS3. I bought a generic one for about $35. It is clear and is wireless and is working perfectly! Gavin likes it that it lights up blue every time I use it. I need to get Call Of Duty | Black Ops sometimes. I remember forgetting to eat because I was too busy trying to be a sniper. Resident Evil for the PS1 had me scared to walk through my grandma's hallway alone. This place has it all; NES, Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, Play Boy, Nintendo 64, etc. For this thanksgiving, my kids will watch me play on the NES. I bet I can beat Super Mario Bros 3 (raccoon tail) w/o using a life line. Friendly guys. Reasonable prices. I will be back!

I live in Concord which is about 70 miles from this store but it it always a treat to visit . They have environment for gamers to indulge in their hobby and their prices on throwback games are really good. One of my favorite places to visit with

I'm so glad we just happened to park in the large parking lot next to this store. It was a delight. The store is much larger than it appears from the outside. Mainly because there's a whole second half you might not realize is there until you come in. The selection here is wonderful and the lay out newer issues in a very easy to browse way. The back issues are in your traditional long box that you need to flip through, but they're all labeled in a way that makes it easy to narrow down your search. While they did not have the specific issue I was looking for, they happily went online and found an online retailer that had it for a reasonable price. That's great customer service that no other store has ever shown me (including my own local comic book shop where I've been a regular for 10+ years). Even when I told them they didn't have to do that they insisted and had a site for me within a minute or two. I really appreciated that. The two workers were so friendly and helpful. When I mentioned I was from Los Angeles they asked where my local store was & immediately knew it and had nice things to say about the owner. You could tell they really loved what they did and the comic book community as a whole. While I don't know how often I will be in the area, if I am ever even remotely close I will absolutely come by again. This is one of the best shopping experiences I've has at a CBS outside of my area.

In terms of selection I think they have a good selection on the retro and modern games and consoles which made me spend even more time in the shop! They also have other things like pokemon sealed products and single cards which I assume they are selling at market price and toys like Funko pops and figurines. As a casual collector and lover of video games, I'm happy with the amount and variety of product that is offered and staff here are friendly everytime I come so I'm happy to recommend this shop to anyone in the nearby area :)

It's located in a small strip mall I've passed by in Milpitas and glad we stopped by. It was amazing to see such a large crowd of people coming in and out, it just made me feel like people still appreciate physical hardware. This feeling was acknowledged when I saw a row of CRT TVs for sale and how much better the games looked on their intended non-held hardware. They have a little bit of everything retro and have games ranging from loose to in box, it was cool seeing so many games I grew up with. The most nostalgic systems were the NES and SNES for me. Prices were not and and barely above market though my kids did notice the Pokemon stuff was marked very high. Staff was great and asked me for my requests and immediately looked it up. They also tried giving me free snes clear boxes but they were out of stock.

EXTREMELY UNWELCOMING…read more -I went here for a pre release event a few months ago, One Piece OP-09. It went Ok, worker behind the counter was somewhat helpful as I have never been to a pre release event before. But him and no one else would have any kind of friendly/communication. I get it most people in this scene tend to be socially awkward. But that isn't what this review is about. Today I went to the next pre release event. A full house compared to last time. The "locals" crew was there looked me up and down, wasn't greeted and just looked at as if I should not be there. Very bad and unwelcoming energy. The guy behind the counter, (same as last time) verified me through the Bandai + app before i went to the room where the event and games would take place. One more "local" showed up and then he comes to the back, asks to look at my application again, and made an excuse saying I have the wrong one and that I am not part of the event anymore. Instead of causing a scene I just left. Absolutely terrible. Bandai makes the app and these events a specific way. Just because your group who comes to locals night regularly wants in and shows up late, you make up a reason to eject someone who was properly registered for an event. F- Will not be going back to this place again.

You can spend the whole day looking around and exploring. I also loved that there were two doors. I know that is silly, but I liked that you can park in the back, walk in, go shopping, then walk out the front and you're now in downtown. It is a bit overwhelming, but, super cute and I would recommend any age stopping by for something you'd like.

The staff is lukewarm-friendly, but overall I find them talking amongst each other behind the register like they're at a Sunday backyard BBQ, so if I have a question, I am disrupting their conversation. They'll help me out but they aren't too happy about it. That's how it feels anyway. I wish there was a self-price scanner and a way to find books more easily, so it takes out the need for customer service. All in all, the Santa Cruz Bookstore is a place you can easily spend an hour or longer to kill time or to meander after dinner. It's really fun, and is a perfect place for the loner types who don't like people talking to them... because usually staff won't approach you here on their own. (See? This can be a positive!)
