In the summertime this area is booming. There's a nice open picnic area, a large pavilion, and a smaller pavilion with large built-in grill. Obviously the biggest attraction in the park is the lake. Surprisingly there were actually a few small boats out on the water in this frigid cold. Great place to check out but I'd recommend doing it on a warmer day!

The park is open daily from 7:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m. (normal hours for most trails around here) Pets are allowed, but must be on a leash. People are really good about this, as well as the carry in carry out policy. Love all the wildlife I've seen here, lot's of deer walking through the area... and even across the trail. Tons of small animals as well. Very peaceful and quite. I recommend grabbing a coffee and going early in the am.

During Autumn it's breathtakingly beautiful and if you want to experience it all during one day I'm sure biking would be doable. Now if you keep going instead of veering off to Rush, which is gorgeous during the Fall, you will end up at some kind of junction for the Lehigh Valley Trail, which basically has a mini-museum about trains. The east-west part of the trail has a number of bridges which are interesting, but mainly worth while of either you're a history buff or you're like me and enjoy having a sense of continuity with your running adventures. There is also a stretch of trail that runs from Genesee Valley Park to right before the RIT Barnes & Noble, and that one is okay. I really wish that part of the trail connected all the way to the one near Veterans Memorial Park, but what can you do.

As you walk around you can see why, incredible amount of work is going into keeping this place up. These are large crowns and you want comfortable walking shoes for them. It's not very wheelchair or stroller friendly. These are the grounds of someone who lived in the city of Buffalo. He was clearly wealthy. The house is a Rare Plants Nursery and former home of William Henry Gratwick II from Buffalo. Lee Gratwick, W.G's daughter is now living at Linwood and is dedicated to preserving the Tree Peony Collection, the Gardens, and the Summer house. It's a great weekend getaway to kill a couple hours, see the extensive tree peony collection and explore the grounds with it's various ponds, fountains, and floral area's. I go every year as it's open on the weekend between Lilac Festival and Fairport Canal Days. Two thumbs up, go check it out.

We found Lagoon Park on Yelp and it was a quick and easy drive, so we went to check it out. The…read morefirst thing we noticed is that parking was obscure - we had to stop to ask a nice couple for directions! (Turns out guest parking spots are across the street from the park entrance on Lakeshore Dr, if anyone else is wondering!) Lagoon Park has a really simple and easy to walk trail - it was all flat and mostly graveled. It only took us about 20-25 minutes to circle around (with a 6 year old to boot), so we ended up circling it twice to get a longer walk in! Along the way we stopped to check out two bridges, investigated a couple of smaller dirt trails, admired the MASS amount of lily pads, waved hello to a few of the nice people in the small section of neighborhood we passed by, and the trail leads you right past Wegmans, so we took a break for some sugar cookies, too! I also noticed there were quite a few great fishing spots, if you're looking for those. And a few maps of the trail, which was a nice addition, even though I can't imagine it's easy to get lost here. I would definitely recommend if you're looking for a nice easy trail walk, or some hidden fishing nooks!
