1 STAR -- Extremely Disappointing Experience
Wow. My husband and I visited Lev's Pawn Shop this morning, and honestly, we were completely shocked by what we walked into. We have visited plenty of pawn shops over the years, so we understand that pawn shops are not going to look like high-end department stores. We absolutely expect to see used items, older merchandise, things that have some wear and tear, and a little bit of clutter. That is part of the pawn shop experience. But this was on an entirely different level.
Walking inside, our first thought was, "Are we in a pawn shop or a junkyard?"
The entire place was a complete disaster. It was extremely cluttered, disorganized, dirty, and honestly just unpleasant to walk through. There was junk and merchandise everywhere, and it was difficult to even look at anything without feeling overwhelmed by the condition of the store. There is a huge difference between a store being "cluttered because it's a pawn shop" and a store simply looking neglected and trashed. This felt like the latter.
And then there was the smell.
The store smelled absolutely awful. The odor was strong enough that it was one of the first things we noticed when we walked in, and it made the entire experience even worse. We tried to look around anyway because we were specifically interested in checking out the jewelry, but it was extremely difficult to enjoy browsing in an environment like that.
The jewelry was another major disappointment.
We came in hoping to look at rings and potentially find something worth purchasing. Instead, the jewelry we saw looked filthy, scratched, and poorly cared for. I understand that pawn shops sell pre-owned jewelry. I am completely fine with a piece having normal signs of previous wear. What I am NOT fine with is jewelry being so dirty and scratched up that it looks like it hasn't been properly cleaned or cared for before being put out for sale.
When you're asking people to spend their hard-earned money on jewelry, presentation matters. Even used jewelry can be cleaned, polished, organized, and presented in a way that makes customers actually want to consider purchasing it. Unfortunately, that was not our experience here.
Nothing about the jewelry display made me feel confident about spending money there. Instead, I found myself wondering why the pieces weren't cleaned or maintained before being placed out for customers to inspect.
My husband and I walked around trying to give the place a fair chance, but the overall condition of the store made it very difficult. We were not expecting perfection. We weren't expecting brand-new merchandise. We weren't expecting a fancy jewelry store. We simply expected a pawn shop that was reasonably clean, organized, and had merchandise that looked like it was actually worth buying.
That is not what we found.
The entire experience was incredibly underwhelming. The store felt dirty, chaotic, and neglected. The merchandise looked much the same. We honestly felt like we had wasted our time coming in.
I've been to many pawn shops, and there are plenty of pawn shops that manage to sell used merchandise while still keeping their stores reasonably clean, organized, and inviting. There is no reason a pawn shop has to look like a junkyard. Used does not automatically mean filthy. Pre-owned does not mean damaged or covered in grime. And a store doesn't have to be fancy to be clean and presentable.
Unfortunately, based on our visit this morning, Lev's did not meet that very basic standard for us.
We came in prepared to potentially spend money. We left without purchasing a single thing, and I can't imagine going back.
Maybe there are people who enjoy shopping here and have had a completely different experience, but I'm simply reviewing what WE experienced. For us, this was a hard pass.
If you're looking for jewelry, especially if you're hoping to find a nice ring, I personally would recommend looking elsewhere. There are plenty of other places where you can shop for pre-owned jewelry without having to dig through a filthy, disorganized environment.
One star is honestly all I can give based on our experience.
