At each campsite, the campground provided a picnic table, fire pit and cooking grate. The lake is warm, clean, and you're able to swim and boat on the lake. There were also dumpsters to throw away trash. We hiked Mt. Adam's fire tower trail, which was about a 15 minute drive away. I haven't camped in years and this experience makes me want to return again.

Lake Harris campground is located on the southern side of the high peaks on Rt. 28N. It's got 90…read morecampsites, most are fairly private and more than half located on the lake. It's almost as far removed as you can camp while still having hot showers and flush toilets. I've been camping here for over 10 years, the campground caretaker or manager, Brenda, is the best. She's extremely personable and welcoming, ready to answer any question you might have. The campgrounds is a great place to use as a base to explore the high peaks, paddle the Hudson, hike to a fire tower or just sit in front of the fire and listen to the loons. The town of Newcomb is full of friendly people but not much else if you want to shop or be entertained. Down the road from the campground is Great Camp Santanoni,, the Adirondack Interpretive Center, Goodnow Mountain. In the other direction is the Upper Works access to Mount Marcy and the surrounding high peaks. In the town there's a small general store, an ice cream stand, a single gas pump and a diner.

Then with so many State campgrounds reservations only or closed, we were looking at the side of the road. Found this place on the internet. It was dark when we arrived and the office was closed, but the owner could not have been nicer. Note it is cash only, but the site was level and the price for a full hook-up was only $32. Very relaxing and quiet and strong Wi-fi even at the edge of the park. I would plan to stay here again if the opportunity arose.

As for hauling your camper, don't be surprised if they stick you in a small site or a site with 30 amp. They may ask you for your specs but it doesn't mean a whole lot when it comes to selecting a site for you and your camper. Be sure to have a 50 amp adapter if you require one before coming.

They are always doing preventive maintenance on the buildings, sites and cleaning up the sites. The laundry room and restrooms are clean. The staff are professionals, courtesy, and friendly. Willing to assist on matters all the times. The front desk staff are exceptional. The park is close to downtown and the water park. Catch the bus/shuttle or walk. We have made our reservations for next year already to get insure we get our favorite campsite. Make your reservations early for a site or in the cabin. We have that ADK fever! It was so peaceful and serene that I can overlook the seriously pot-holed roads of which I took a tumble from when walking around a loop. Bicyclers beware! Because of the shading of the trees, and the shadows you might not see the big pot-holes until it is too late. There are not that many water sites that are easy to get down to the water from, but there is a nice boat launch of which had a sandy bottom to enter the lake with your kayak, canoe or paddle board. Also, there was a truck that came around daily selling firewood that I appreciated. The bathrooms and showers were clean.

The Lake Eaton Campground has been my favorite place to pitch a tent and build a campfire so far. The view of the mountains in the background, the silvery hue of the water on sunny days, the fresh air, and the wisps of fog rising from the lake on early mornings gives this place a special touch that's hard to find elsewhere. The campground itself is well maintained and cared for by caretakers, Zack and JJ, Cory and the rest of the staff. Speaking with them has been one of our absolute pleasures. They're both very welcoming, and with good suggestions about fishing, and trails in the area. If you happen to come here on a slow week or day, definitely take the opportunity to introduce yourself and say hello. Thanks to these folks, our first camping experience for the year has been wonderful. We will definitely come again!

One of the worst campgrounds we've ever stayed at. My family are big campers. My husband grew up…read morecamping at DEC sites. All the sites here are small. Nearly big enough for a small rv. All websites show a shower near the beach but they keep it locked up. You have to drive to another DEC camp to use a shower. The rest rooms are rarely cleaned. There is NO open spaces for kids to play. The roads are steep hills and very narrow. Just getting to the camp is a challenge. 2 miles down a bumpy winding dirt road with lots of blind corners. Unreasonable list of rules at the beach that are really never enforced. Aalmost all the waterfront sites are on some sort of cliff so no water access.
