It has been one of my favorite campground for years now, and obviously more people have discovered this wonderful place, as it is almost impossible to get a lakeside campsite these days. A small lake, no large motorized boats are allowed, so it is quiet and peaceful. In fact, the greatest disturbances tend to be other campers who insist on playing their music loudly. Thankfully, there is usually a good amount of space between sites, and most people respect the quiet hours. While this campground is a long way away from where I live, it is definitely worth the drive. If you are interested in fall camping, I can't even being to describe how beautiful it is to wake up in the morning to see the lake surrounded by a riot of colors. read more
This was one of the more unique camping experiences I've had at a NYS campground and I really enjoyed the experience. Located close to Indian Lake, the Lewey Lake Campground has multiple entrances off of Route 30N with the main campground the furthest south and what I have labeled on the Yelp map. Keep in mind that the address does not come up properly on Google Maps or Bing maps so look at the Yelp placement for more accuracy. We were at the furthest north campsites which are pretty isolated from everyone else. The sites our group stayed at were situated right next to a stream which was great for sleeping. You couldn't hear anyone around you and even with the goings on at our lower campsite we couldn't hear them at all. There only outhouses at this location of the campground but it is a short drive to the main sites that have real bathrooms and showers along with a nice, simple beach. Despite how close it is to Route 30N, I definitely felt isolated in a good way and would highly recommend staying there for people looking for some interesting camping with reasonably convenient location. read more

I almost don't want to add to the positive reviews so that I am able to get a lakefront site without reserving it nine months in advance! If you can get a lakefront or one of those inlet-front sites, do it. Beautiful views in the morning, non-stop visits from ducks and easy access to the lake. We bring our kayak with us and she stays at the base. Some of the sites are easier to access than others, meaning some you can easily bring the boat in and others you might have to walk down a few feet on sort of a steep embankment, but otherwise waterfront access should give you direct access. Many of the sites are pretty shaded, so it tends to feel pretty cold, especially in the mornings and nights. Our nights were relatively quiet and one boisterous group down the road made sure they quieted down by 10:30 PM---people are pretty respectful. There is a basketball court, a place for you to throw out your garbage/recycle and the area where you can shower is really great---it must be on the newer side and the staff cleans it daily. The staff is also very nice---always able to answer questions and even helped us out with something on our tent. There is not too much else in the area---you need to drive a bit one way or the other to get to some stores but they do sell ice/wood onsite. Make sure you bring everything else you need! read more

This was by far the best camp ground experience I have ever had. We stayed in the walk in sites on Indian Lake. We were secluded from others, had a lake front site, with our own beach, perfect for our canoe. The people who worked there were very helpful. When there was a storm coming, they drove to each site to tell us it was coming and offer us shelter. The views were amazing. Simply amazing. We were miles and miles from the closet towns and it added to the experience of feeling like we were back country camping but able to be close to our car. I wish I could have stayed forever. read more

Just returned from a 6 family camping trip to Lewey Lake Campground, with 13 children ages 5 to 12. Our sites were clustered around site 165, which had a small Creek located to the rear of the site. This Creek entertained the children endlessly, providing lots of fros, salamanders and minnows to catch. The kids also enjoyed kayaking in the river and lake, although fishing was a bit of a dud. Additionally, there was a much larger creek within walking distance that was full of crayfish to catch, and rocks to hop on. The children also really enjoyed the beach. We never even had time to check out the hiking trail. The staff was very friendly, and the bathrooms were not the worst I've ever been in. The only drawback was the bear that had been spotted in the site recently, which thrilled the children as much as it made the parents anxious. However, we followed all precautions with food and equipment, and do not have a bear story of our own to report (to the children's dismay and parents relief). We would definitely come back, but would get a waterfront site, even though the brookside site was lovely and provided delightful ambient noise for sleeping. Also appreciated about this campground was the respect for quiet hours from other campers. Lastly, a word of caution, there was zero cell service. read more
