A small lake, no large motorized boats are allowed, so it is quiet and peaceful. In fact, the greatest disturbances tend to be other campers who insist on playing their music loudly. Thankfully, there is usually a good amount of space between sites, and most people respect the quiet hours. While this campground is a long way away from where I live, it is definitely worth the drive. If you are interested in fall camping, I can't even being to describe how beautiful it is to wake up in the morning to see the lake surrounded by a riot of colors.

Located close to Indian Lake, the Lewey Lake Campground has multiple entrances off of Route 30N with the main campground the furthest south and what I have labeled on the Yelp map. Keep in mind that the address does not come up properly on Google Maps or Bing maps so look at the Yelp placement for more accuracy. We were at the furthest north campsites which are pretty isolated from everyone else. The sites our group stayed at were situated right next to a stream which was great for sleeping. You couldn't hear anyone around you and even with the goings on at our lower campsite we couldn't hear them at all. There only outhouses at this location of the campground but it is a short drive to the main sites that have real bathrooms and showers along with a nice, simple beach. Despite how close it is to Route 30N, I definitely felt isolated in a good way and would highly recommend staying there for people looking for some interesting camping with reasonably convenient location.

This is challenging because of the small size and limited sites. I try at least six months in advance for a water site. The water sites are hard to get. I will stay at any of them they are all wonderful. The lake is very refreshing and the beach is fun. There is a huge rock in the middle of the lake that my family takes pictures at. It is quit a wonderful view. I love coming here to camp. All the campers are always friendly and polite. I have talked with many and they all think this campground is a hidden gem.

We camped in tents, a pop-up tent camper, a truck camper, a travel trailer, and lastly, in their cabins. Bottom line, it didn't matter where we slept. We always came back to this same campground. They are in a perfect location in the Adirondack Mountains and in walking distance to the town of Old Forge and Enchanted Forest Water Safari & Amusement Park. There's a nice pond for swimming, fishing, and non motorized boating. There's beautiful hiking trails & plenty of wildlife. Yes, including bear, which we saw on most of our trips there. Please don't feed them! They'll normally not bother you if you leave them alone. Feed the chipmunks instead. This is honestly one of my favorite places I've ever visited, filled with many special family adventures and memories. Just a few days (6/29) before we left I shared my confirmation with friends who were also going and that's when I noticed in EXTRA small print that you couldn't use AC, I thought maybe that was for their cabins, since we paid for FULL hookup I didn't think it was meant for us. We arrived on July 1st a day before our friends were supposed to arrive. Checked in and not once did they state you couldn't use AC. I didn't ask because again we paid for full hookup. Sitting at the camp site in 95 degree weather, I'm reading their pamphlet and in BOLD it says NO AC UNITS or heaters can be run. I then asked campers next to us and they said they never knew this and they said we're running our AC anyways. I then took a picture of the pamphlet and sent it to our friends and told them they better bring a fan. They were livid when they saw that especially since we paid for full hookup. We all had pets and there's NO WAY you can sleep in a camper in these high temps without AC. Even though we kept the AC off during the day after the camper sat in the sun all day it was like hot oven and it didn't matter if you ran the AC at night, it took forever to cool the camper down. Our friends ended up canceling and they didn't receive their full deposit back and they were charged a $25 cancel fee. Our 4th of July friends weekend was ruined. We didn't even stay the full weekend . Lesson learned, we will NEVER go back to Old Forge Camping Resort again.

We had a river site (I requested when booking) that was absolutely beautiful. The beach area was clean and safe. We didn't bring any pets but had two nephews visit our first night and two nephews visit our last night and the kids all had a great time. We played music at our campsite and hosted family dinners almost every night (camping with two other families) without any issues. We never felt like the staff was "spying" on us or that it was a prison camp as the other reviews state. I truly believe those people just didn't want to follow the rules posted on the website and then complained when held accountable for their actions. I believe any decent, respectable person/family would love this campground and I will be recommending to my friends and family. *Tip for campers w/ sewer hookup: we did notice that a lot of campers used gutters or boards to create an decline from their camper to the sewer hookup bc without a setup like that our sewer was running uphill which was a little inconvenient.

It was incredibly dusty to the point that we thought they just didn't clean it after it not being used all winter. There were bugs and spiders everywhere, yes I know its camping so it should be expected. However, it was excessive. We didn't have to kill that many bugs the first trip we took. The screen to the outside door was almost half off at the bottom so if we wanted to leave the main door open we couldn't unless we wanted more bugs in the room. The bed, if you can call it that, was horrible. It was so springy that we are pretty sure they stacked 2 box springs on top of each other and said ok good enough. There was no way we would be able to sleep there, and the bunk beds weren't any better. When my husband was climbing onto the top bunk to see if it was any better than the full bed we thought he was going to break the railings because they were so flimsy. There was no ladder. It was very cold so my husband went to turn on the heater that was attached to the wall. We were lucky that we had brought a long lighter with us to start a fire outside because there was no way to get the heater to work without it. If someone tired to turn the heater on and didn't know what they were doing, some could easily have left the gas from the propane tank on without realizing it and it could be incredibly dangerous. Makes me worry about small kids playing with it and not realizing that they had turned anything on. My husband and I checked in at about 4:15pm on Tuesday, we had our car packed up and were dropping the keys to the cabin the key drop box by 11pm that same night to make the 3 hour drive home. I called the following day to make sure someone found the keys, which they did. All they had to say was "I hope you enjoyed your stay". It didn't seem like they thought anything had been wrong. We will be back to the Old Forge area, just not at HTR. I will say there were 2 good things: the women who checked us in seemed to remember me from when we were there 2 years ago which I thought was nice. And today there was a tornado warning with 80mph winds, she forgot that we had left so she called to let us know to make sure we were safe. She was the only decent thing about our stay.

The sites are huge and well spaced out. They are pretty level and more of a sandy/dirt surface. Perfect and plenty of space for a camper. There are a sufficient amount of bathrooms spaced out. There is only one building with 4 showers for women and 4 for men. They had great water pressure. They were HOT as can be! There is a timer button in the outer area that you push that turns on the water. You can't control the temp or on/off. You can run generators from 9-11am and 4-7pm. It is very shady in there. Mid-day at our site, you almost felt like it was getting dark out already. There is a beach that the lifeguard chair clearly had not been moved this year. There is nothing to occupy the kids, such as a playground, rec center, etc... The mosquitos were insane! Maybe it was because there was very little meat - there were only 2 other campers on our huge loop. If there was power, I think we would be more likely to return. Without the power and activities for the kids, if in the area again, we would seek someplace else out.

I stayed here for one night in early July while hiking in the region. $20 per night (plus a $9 reservation fee) might be a little steep compared to other states, but it gets you clean restrooms, free showers, and a large site with a picnic table, fire pit, and bear locker. Yes, I said bear locker. They make you sign a form saying you won't leave food out for the bears when you check in. When I say the site was big, I mean it. Easily space for 2 cars, a decent-sized trailer, and 2 tents on the site and you'd still have room to walk around. My 2-person tent and small car made the place feel empty. Potable water was on the other side of the access road and toilets a short walk away. A wooded buffer space of 20 or so feet separated adjacent campsites, so it didn't feel like anybody was encroaching on my space. No cell service, so I could truly disconnect. The missing star is for a few things. One, the slightly-high price, which admittedly is far cheaper than most other lodging in the region. Two, the only thing sold at the campground is ice, so make sure to buy your firewood and other supplies before you arrive. I don't care about this myself, but if you want utility hookups for a trailer, they don't exist here.

Intimate, yet private tents that are more like cabins (lights, ceiling fans, heaters, and a front porch with rocking chairs) dot the hillside above the rustic central meeting place, which is anchored by a huge fire pit that burns continuously throughout the season. I haven't even gotten to the food! A professional chef, at home creating in any cuisine, sets a bountiful and delicious table. I had never been glamping before. I worry that I'll have a hard time going back to regular camping. Even with my blow up mattress. Thank you, David! This was a most amazing experience!

You're in the woods, in an awesome area surrounded by a great stream being waited on hand and foot. David was an awesome host the entire weekend, a friend and I drove up from NYC and were greeted with awesome local foods (sausages and cheese), produce, and a bottle of wine, we spent the night in a permanent tent structure that was pre-stocked with plenty of firewood (this was back in Oct). The host was an awesome chef, great to chat with, and was totally fine with giving us space when we needed. Additionally we packed a few food packs and went into the Caves of adirondacks. We definitely plan on coming back.

This review is on our trip in July 2023…read more Our first trip to New York to dig for Herkimer Diamonds was back in 2010. We dug at the Ace of Diamonds mine. Great time & loads of herks to be had. Smashed rocks, sifted through dirt amongst the piles, and walked around plucking them off the ground. We returned multiple times until suddenly the landscape changed and the rock pile was not the same. All there was were rocks from the cliff that the claims people had sheered off to hopefully find pockets in the walls. We find out in our 2021 trip that the Ace of Diamonds is in a lawsuit and it cannot dig up new material/loads of rock and earth from deep in the mine areas to dump for all of the daily customers to prospect. The place is a waste of time and money now. Fast forward to today July 2023 and we see they post that they are able to now dig new material and bring it to the piles. We have high hopes that we will get to enjoy this place once again and head out from mid Ohio to see. Upon arrival the pile does not lie...it tells us that nothing has changed. We buy our wrist bands and ask if they have done as they suggested on their website and added new material. They hedge in their answer and claim that they just cant get any of the machines working...I would suggest that you do not post a promise of new material until you are actually able to do this. Another absolutely sad trip to Ace of Diamonds Mine. I am not sure why anyone would donate to the gofundme. Lesson learned that they are just looking to have people give them money.
