Well the crew from LVL has had our house for two and a half months - it was a transformation from the basement to the roof. It is beautiful. The attention to detail, the quality of the work- it is unbeatable. They put in a new French drain system and properly sealed the entire basement, creating additional living space for our teen girls.They replaced all the uneven floors and made the entire home not only much more functional- but breathtakingly gorgeous. The problem is then the left the house unfinished, never completing it. Six months later- their electrical work caused a house fire. Repeated attempts to rectify the issues failed until the owner of LaVillaLux just stopped talking to us altogether. Not the best way to do business. Really sad at the outcome.

We had a fairly good idea of what we wanted, both in terms of design and components. That is, we weren't looking for contractors who would charge $800 just to 'design' the new look (no, this is no joke, one contractor actually asked us for this amount just to prepare a quote ...). And we wanted to have someone who wouldn't break the bank and who would do good work. I think Edward fit the requirements quite well. He showed up on time. Every time. He's super reliable. He is to the point, and gets things done with minimal fuss. Moreover, if he runs into problems he isn't shy to look things up online or ask the manufacturer. This happened a few times since we were using less frequently used German and Japanese components in the bathroom that probably worked a bit differently from what is commonly installed. He is very flexible and won't rip you off if you need last minute changes. And he's more than willing to listen to suggestions. Keep in mind what you're getting. This is not someone who will install gold-plated McMansion style palaces but he will do a very solid job. And if something isn't 100% straight, he'll listen if you tell him and straighten it out. In return, you're paying $ to $$ but not $$$ to $$$$ for the job. One of the really nice things is that he won't nickel and dime you for small obstacles (e.g. one of the water valves on the mains was old and leaked after he'd turned the water off. He replaced it free of charge). And yes, he's very pleasant to deal with.

Unneighborly…read more Waking up to their crew yelling in our residential neighborhood before 7 am, working start time, for months is the least of my worries. Being sworn at by their staff is not neighborly. They seen to forget that the street does not belong to them. What's truly frustrating, and why I would never suggest the company- they do not use working phone numbers for their permits that they file with the city. So getting ahold of someone when there's a real issue is impossible. For example, their construction crew is causing a very serious and dangerous issue with the buses scheduled to pick up preschoolers each school day in the morning. They are blocking the road with cranes and equipment in the middle of the bus stops. This causes an unsafe situation. It has also caused children on the street to miss school. Since where their bus stops is being used as a construction area. But since the company does not post any working numbers for permit or the public then there no way to discuss with the owner or manager how unsafe they are being when blocking the street with equipment in the am. And since those on the site are no receptive to discussions with neighbors about problems- problems continue to mount. I like being told to go "fuck myself" and that I'm fat whenever I ask the crew when the will be moving their equipment out of the middle of the road as they block our entries streets access, but especially my front door. This builder runs a real classy crew. I can't wait until they're done building near us. It's horrific and it makes me resent our new neighbors who haven't even moved it but bought with them.

Bobby and his team were supposed to start our project mid pandemic but then slated our start to…read morelate fall/early winter. At our request, we asked for our project to be postponed until early spring due to lack of materials and opening our home to the elements, it was not practical. Construction was to begin right after Easter 2021 but we received notification through an email less than a week before starting that they were no longer going to do our project. There was a huge lack of communication throughout the entire process and when we did actually speak to either Bobby or one of his employees, we were assured each time that everything was in order and those few things that were not would be taken care of in the next couple of days. However we would never get a response on finalization of those particular concerns. We had given a lump sum of money in summer 2021 and asked it to be returned when the agreement was made to start in spring and a new check would be issued. They gave us the run-around and no money was returned until after they canceled and less all our permits which are only good until summer, which is impossible to get a new contractor in that short amount of time. I highly recommend you do your research before you higher a contractor. Make sure to ask for references as well. In the end, I am glad that RJ Steele Construction did not open up my house.

We had him paint some of the walls yellow, which is a terrible color in terms of coverage, and the paint he used turned out awesome in just two coats (I have painted yellow before and three coats didn't do the trick). He made suggestions to help keep costs down and the final result feels so much cleaner and brighter than the builders grade paint that was here before. It's been a few months since the work was done and the gutters have not leaked since. At least one location was really hard to get to, but Brian took the time to think through solutions and got it done.
