The worst gym I have ever been to. Way too expensive for the lack of cleanliness, lack of space, lack of *quality*, working equipment. The place is grimey, nobody cleans their machines after using them. The lack of safety is insane to me -- multiple people just throwing weights, not in areas that it is meant for. People walking under, through, around your squat rack/machines is so unsafe. There is so much non-working equipment. It is way too expensive to be constantly busy and never have enough room to workout. Icing on the cake is I requested a cancellation due to moving out of state. Emailed, called MULTIPLE times, and consistently got ignored by Jordan, the one person that manages accounts. He requested multiple forms of proof of move, which I happily provided, and again was ignored. My card continues to try to be processed, I have called and emailed yet another person multiple times, and get ignored. Extremely unprofessional and quite possibly the most ridiculous place ever. read more

Dirty; barbells aren't cleaned or often even cleared when people are done. No one seems to consider that anyone else works out here. The staff offered no tour and it's pretty bro-tactic. The second star is for a fair-ish price. But, the "womens" workout area. Whatever that means? Is in a box with no ventilation so Covid polices aren't great. 'No mask policy. We come here everyday! They have everything we need for whatever fitness level! They have swimming, classes, massage, personal training, kids area (fabulous area), and a track. I would give 5 stars, however the rug areas could be cleaner. There is hair and small pieces of trash that stay in the ground for days at a time. Also, customers don't wear masks when they aren't working out and they don't wipe machines down after use. COVID precautions are lax here. Otherwise, great gym! read more

I've been coming to this gym for the past 5 years. I originally joined in Louisville as I was living there, but after moving to Lexington(but I'm still traveling to Louisville for work at times), I was happy to learn that I was still allowed to use my gym membership at this location. Now about a month ago, I get informed that my membership will be cancelled. And If I wanted to continue coming to this location, I'd have to renew my contract here at Lexington and make it my home gym. Therefore, making me get into another contract and paying double the rate than what I was paying. How absurd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was paying $20/month from Louisville as I was locked in a special promotion I got a couple years ago. Now this gym offers silver membership @$30/month and that means you can't come to the gym between 4-8pm (when all the great classes are offered) or platinum plan @$40/month where you can come whenever. Now the only issue I have is that I'll be stuck in a 3 year contract paying double what I was paying when I was out of contract, and this gym isn't even located nationwide like some other gyms. (So I have another membership with planet fitness $20/month just so I don't use hotel gyms when I'm out of state) So yes essentially, you're paying for the amenities, but I was already paying for them at my original rate. I just find it obnoxious that the gym wouldn't honor my original membership, as it was with their GYM, even if it's a sister gym, it's still LAC! Very disappointed with the treatment from this gym to a long time member. Oh well, guess I'll find a better gym elsewhere. Besides, they charge a "twice a year fee for new equipment or cleaning" yet many machines are broken and the towels are dingy. read more

Though the gym facilities are nice, however, I moved from Lexington to Oregon three months ago and tried canceled my membership but I'm still being charged three months later! I'm a disabled Veteran and on a tight fixed income, so these unnecessary charges are causing a real financial problem for me. I called and spoke to the membership manager while I was actually moving and was told I'd still have to pay that month because I was month to month and it was past the date of billing, I agreed to this and then told them canceling the membership wouldn't be a problem, he then called me and tried saying my email no longer works, so I sent it again via text but no contact via email, text, or call from them again other than he received my email, so I figured he took care of the membership cancelation on his end. This is utter bullshit as they have my primary email on file and receive all of my important emails through this account including my VA appointments and have no problem receiving any other important communications including my attorney and other bills, seems like some awfully shady business practice and are going to keep billing me till I get a lawyer involved. read more

This is a very well equipped gym. It's got a very comprehensive set of free-weights and circuit training gear, a full basketball court, an indoor running track, multiple racquetball courts, group exercise class rooms used for yoga/pilates/zumba classes, a full indoor pool, and a small snack bar serving healthy snacks and smoothies (which is not open a lot of the hours the actual gym is open). They have large, expansive locker rooms (and a hot tub shared by the two locker rooms) and a small women's only workout room so self-conscious women can exercise without fear of being ogled by men, as well as a huge wall of televisions facing an expanse of treadmills, exercise bicycles and elliptical trainers. Like any large gym, they also have nutritionists and personal trainers for hire. They also added free wi-fi recently. They also have a nice indoor arcade/playground for the kids. It's apparently popular for birthday parties. On rainy days, it's quite popular for the kids since they can't go to the parks. The staff is fairly nice and friendly, and the locker rooms just finished a major (and honestly, expensive-looking) remodeling, complete with flat-panel TV's in the locker rooms. Now for the bad part. They are very big on the "contract" model of gym membership. Going there in February when the family decides to get fit, and having myself, my fiancee, and my soon-to-be-stepson join meant signing contracts for $40/month per person (and $10/month for the kid) for the next year. My wife slowly started to go less and less, and my stepson didn't really want to go to the indoor playground very often. I used the gym regularly, but the $90 a month I was paying for the three of us made it awkward and cumbersome. After we got married, they let us transition to a joint membership, which reduced it to "only" $80. When my membership was up, they wanted us to renew our contracts. The problem is, paying all that money for memberships made me realize just what I used and didn't use at the gym. I never used the hot tub, or pool, or basketball court, or racquetball courts, and my work schedule meant I could never be at the various exercise classes and was never there when the snack bar was open. I used the mainly the free weights and circuit machines, the treadmills and sometimes running track. I started to shop around and found a smaller, less expensive gym that had what I needed (except for the track, and I've learned to just go jogging in the park). If not for the pain of a huge contractually obligated payment every month, I would have never taken such a long, hard look at what I was paying for and what I was actually using. If I was just paying the $40 for myself and could have canceled my wife and stepsons memberships when they stopped going, it would have left me feeling a lot better about my own membership and made me a lot more likely to continue my own membership when the time came. So, it's a pretty decent gym, but you need to ask yourself do you really need all those features you are paying for? Would your needs be met by a smaller, less expensive gymnasium? Also, the cumbersome contracts are a big negative when there are gyms in town that don't require membership contracts. read more

I turned 65 this year and with Silver Sneakers benefits I was seeking a nice indoor track for me and my Service Dog to walk when it was too cold outdoors so a friend recommended Lexington Athletic Club and I used my captioned telephone to call and inquire about bringing my Service Dog. I was warmly greeted showed where the track was, entered into the system, received my pass for signing in all in minutes. My Dog loves it there and is keeping in shape during the winter months and rainy weather conditions. People are friendly, it's an active place which I need and so does my Service Dog. Good location, excellent parking lot which is always full. read more

I checked this health club out years ago when I first moved to Lex but the fact that you have to fight your way through mall traffic to get there turned me off. After finding out their pool was open during the pandemic I called about joining and to find out their policies for social distancing in the lap lanes. When I asked the guy about lane reservations, (the few other open pools in the area are doing this), the bored sounding guy on the other end said there were pros and cons for that. When I asked what the cons were the guy said "let me put it this way, we're just not going to do it". The only con I see is the effort needed to set it up. Apparently it's not worth their while, and with that attitude, I see no reason to join. I don't have time to fight my way through mall traffic only to find out lanes are already occupied. read more

I have always liked LAC. I am comfortable there. But, the past couple of years they have really gone downhill. There are almost always machines broken. They did away with towel service. There is a window in pool area with either a bullet hole or where a bird flew into it, rock, whatever. Why has it not been repaired? On 7/4, I checked online for hours and it said OPEN, closing at 8pm. It was 3 pm at the time. I get there and the lot is empty and there is a tiny sign on door that said closing at 2 pm on 7/4. I called the phone number and no answer. How hard (1) to have a recording or voice mail greeting saying they close at 2 on the 4th; and (2) how difficult to change hours on website? Add a banner with 7/4 hours? Apparently very hard. To me it shows a disregard for customers, which shows in other reviews. There are other gyms with pools from which to choose. Stop taking your members for granted. read more

Honestly the worst gym ever! When I first signed up I loved going to the gym. It was so clean and well kept up. The people were kind and I thought I got a big deal. I chose the $40 dollar monthly plan. As the months went by I noticed my bill for the gym coming out of my bank account start to go up. At first it was $45 dollars for a few months. When I asked about it they said it was the fees that everyone had to pay when they first signed up and then it would go back down to $40. Well a few months went by and the bill went to $50, and then then the straw that broke the camels back was when I saw that they had withdrew $70 dollars from my account. I went in and they basically told me my a bunch of bullshit and lies. I couldn't wait to get out of that contract this month and I definitely don't recommend them. Exceptional pricing. There is no membership fee and the pricing is perfect for family. The babysitting service is great! They give you plenty of time to do any activity you choose. There are numerous areas with different machines and the people here are extremely friendly. I love the fresh warm towel service everyday! Complete indoor pool and a number ways to do the same thing and achieve different and lasting results. Great café too! Very suggestive to a good diet. Not very particular to the soda machine, but it provides Gatorade and water. The sauna/whirlpool/steam rooms are clean, locker rooms are spectacular, and the staff are constantly cleaning. I first want to start off by saying I have been a customer at LAC for 3 years now. Never have I ever had an issue with this place until today. I go in at different times of the day, do my workout, clean up after myself and then go about my business. Today I walk in around 8:30 this morning and go to the general to the right at the bottom of the stairs. I see a few people in there working out and think. I think nothing of it. A few more people walk into the room and the lady apparently conducting a class walks over and puts a chair in front of the door with a sign saying class is in session then proceeds to kick all of us out of the room. I tell her I pay a premium monthly like everyone else and there was no indicTion a class was going on and to have the manager speak with me. The "lady" manager then kicks me out and says I CAN NOT be in there when a class is going on. Mind you I wasn't distracting anyone, I was simply on the side against the wall warming up. I talk with her in the office and tell her in the last 3 years, as a paying customer, I've never been made aware that it is AGAINST THE RULES to be in there with a class going on. She said "Well, there's not a lot of things in the contract and I can't go in there." Now I've always been courteous to the patrons in that room when it's clear a class was going on. This wasn't the case. I then speak with the general manager Mark and he tells me that he is going to defend the rude instructor and that if I don't like it " I can find another gym to work out at and he could recommend one for me." Then REFUSES to give me the corporate offices number and tells me "it's easy to find." Really? This is how the management treats a LONGTIME LOYAL customer at first issue. I will be cancelling my membership and reporting to the BBB of the offensive and egregious manner in which they treat their customers. read more

Literally an "everything under one roof" club. Huge cardio theater with multiple flat screens. Never had to wait for a treadmill, elliptical or bike. Indoor surfaced track around .65M. Dedicated surface - not shoe-horned around other areas. Large strength-training area. Basketball court with seemingly continuous pickup game. Lane pool. Spinning room. Aerobics, Yoga room. Big Crossfit room with outdoor area as well. Good sized locker room with showers, soap, free towels. Massage therapy available too. Can buy water, energy drinks etc. at the front desk. Had some experience with a sister club down in Nashville Area. Staff is friendly, helpful. Don't use a trainer, myself, but seems to be a lot of opportunity if that is what you're after. Only quibble is short night on Saturdays - hard to get out at 5 and get workout in by 7pm close. Club has a mini-club for kids. Pricing is comparable to other full-line clubs - a bit higher than those essentially unstaffed 24 hour places but amenities and range of workouts are worth it. read more

Really good gym overall with everything you need, except the hours!!!! There are so many different schedules concerning when they are open and when they close (especially during the weekends) that its very hard to remember. Monday-Thursday is pretty painless and easy to remember, but then Friday, Saturday and Sunday all have different hours of operation. I have been a member for over 3 years and am seriously considering changing gyms for this very fact! Who wants to carry a schedule around all the time to know whether you can go to the gym or not. As a busy professional I want a gym that has some consistency in its operating hours so I don't always have to call or guess throughout the weekend as to when I can workout and when I can't. It doesn't seem to be a consideration that on the weekends most people are off from work and finally have a bit of time in their schedule to workout, but yet on the weekends the gym closes early. This seems only to be a convenience for employees and a hassle for the members and yet, this year our membership fees increased by an extra $30 a year. In today's hectic world a little consistency on your hours would go a long way, because most of us have a hard enough time keeping up with our own schedules, much less our gym's. Please just maintain the same hours throughout the week (Monday-Friday) or at least through the weekends (Saturday & Sunday). It may be easy for your staff to remember, because they are always there, but for your patrons it is a hassle and inconvenience. read more
