After a half hour wait and only moving ahead about 2 feet, I decided to go in to the "lodge" and ask if it would be possible to add a couple of more staff on the ticket booth. I guess with 250 people already on the hill they probably couldn't care less about anyone else being there. Finally after 50 minutes of frustration we got our tickets only to discover that a new rule was put in force and our two grandchildren under 12 had to have a helmet (nice money grab guys!). So after paying damn $85.00 we proceeded to the hill only to discover that there were 6 lineups with about 40 people in each one. So needless to say it was a long exacerbating situation for hundreds of people. Their system for moving the sliders (customers) away from the bottom of the hill was non-existent. So, it took 30 seconds to slide down the hill and approximately another 1 1/2 minute for all 3 lanes to clear before the next group could be released. So, we were at least 20 - 25 minutes just standing in line waiting for a 30 second ride. It was so ridiculous that we left after 4 rides. Therefore each ride was over $5.00 each. BTW: they now have your ticket limited to a 2 hour session. So if you wanted more than 4 rides you have to go through the entire process again buying more tickets.. The grandkids had fun but couldn't understand why they weren't allowed to keep going; that bummed them out. I was planning to sit inside and have a drink and a bite to eat but their (River Valley) greed just irritated me so, we just left. I think a lot of other customers felt the same way because out of the 300 - 350 people wandering around, there was only a handful people eating. When an establishment charges $3.00 for a ten cent bottle of water, I simply walk away. My daughter and I commented about how foolish they are; if they made their prices and systems middle class family friendly, then they would have people returning multiple times throughout the winter. But this way they gouge the livin' shit out of you once and you never return; at least we won't!!

We never deflate our tube so we can get there as soon as it snows. The city puts up wind resistant fences in the winter and bails of hay for protection when going back up the hill. We went here during the holidays with our family from Texas. True story, when my kids were real young I wanted to show them how safe it was to go down the hill. So I jumped on the tube and had a blast, just before I reached the bottom I hit a dip in the hill. I went totally airborn! I landed on my face and rolled. When I caught my breath I looked up at the family they were totally cracking up. They said I went flying. Next time down I put them on the tube with me and I avoided the "little" dip. We were there for three hours. Great time! This hill also is great in the summer as you can get a great workout running up and down the hill!

After waiting in line we were told that we didn't have a reservation and proceeded to book us a new reservation...for an hour later. The lady who helped us was nice but could not keep her head on straight. Bouncing back and forth between tube numbers and cash deposit amounts we were finally set. After an hour of waiting we asked an employee if we were going to be put on a bus and the employee rudely told us to wait our turn. Chill Jake. We just want to know if we're going tubing. After waiting for over an hour, we were put on a bus, full of unmasked employees and customers. We had multiple people around us also complain about the insane customer service they received. You wouldn't think it could get any worse but unfortunately it does. Once we arrived at the river it was a complete sh!t show. It was almost like a scene from hunger games. Massive amounts of people thrown into the mountain of tubes fighting their way into the water. There were definitely many "Karen's" around us letting us know that they were next to get into the river. We ended up taking a small walk down river to jump into our tubes. The float was nice. No employees were involved which really helped. Not only was the service terrible but it's also stupid expensive for a tube. Overall. Don't float with the G.O.A.T. The checkin was a bit wonky but you'd have to redo the entire entrance to fix it. Overall, it was great.

Instead of taking responsibility, management hid behind their ridiculous 14-day cancellation policy and refused to refund our second night(which we didn't stay for obvious reasons). Their"solution" was insulting: a 20% discount for a future stay(as if anyone would want to come back!) and a handful of quarters so we could attempt to kill the bugs in our belongings using their dryer. The dishonesty from Toni and her father is appalling. Any business that knowingly lies to its customers about a health and cleanliness issue this serious has no integrity. Bed bugs are not a minor inconvenience- they spread, they infest, and they follow you home. We left disgusted and disappointed, and I strongly recommend avoiding this campground if you value your health, honesty, or basic respect as a paying customer.

This campground is not too far of I-75, in Michigan's mid-lower peninsula, and is completely surrounded by the Rifle River. It 'feels' like you are up north. Leave your cell phones in the car, you won't need it and you can't get a signal anyway. {Which some see as a con; I see as a pro.} The camp is set up in group campsites that range in size, each with a view of the river, a fire pit, and some electrical hook-ups. The rifle river is a nice easy river for beginners, and White's rents tubes, rafts, kayaks, and canoes. White's also offers a number of trips, from a 2 hour tube float, to a several day canoe trips. Another great feature, White's drops you off up stream, and you paddle back to your campsite. {No getting in the car all wet and sandy.} On the weekends the river, and this campground can get a little busy and loud, and may not be the best environment for small children. On the weekdays, things quiet down considerably. I took a kayak trip on a Tuesday, and the wildlife on the river was amazing - I saw wood ducks, teal ducks, a deer, a young bald eagle, and a blue heron. For those non-campers, a couple of cautions - this location does not have showers or flush toilets. The outhouses are clean and well kept, and coin operated showers are available at the main campground (about 20 minutes away). Of course there is the river, but please, if you choose this option use earth-friendly soaps and shampoos, those that do not contain phosphates (Not Ivory because it floats).
