Mount Clemens Spring Art & Craft Show - What! There's a festival? okay...

This past Show, we went back the second day, as there were booths we needed to go back to, as we realized we'd seen items that would be really good gifts for specific people. We saw beautiful handmade resin jewelry - including tiny leaves done in resin. There were hand-made wood bird houses and feeders in shapes of cats and birds and faces. There were many booths with art made from embroidery, chrochet, and knitting, there were photographic and painted art, and so much more. The whole event is arranged nicely, with plenty of shade, good parking, and the best quality of arts and crafts. We've marked our calendars for next year's show.

Macomb Place is closed down in festival fashion, and vendors come in to peddle their wares. I was surprised at the lack of food here - they had kettle corn, and a few grillers, and that was about it. The vendors this year looked like they were catering to mothers even more so than last year. Cheesy things you'd expect at one of these: a guy doing caricatures for $5, incense and incense holders, candles, pottery, plants, garden supplies, and so on - HOME stuff, and a lot of it looked like things I'd find in my grandmother's backyard. There was one highlight to the afternoon - in the fountain Gazebo a band was playing. I was leaving when they began to play, but came back after I realized they were playing a sort of Cabana version of Gnarles Barkley's "Crazy". That was pretty sweet, and they had a good sense of humor about it. I'd suggest this festival for a Mother's Day-ish afternoon out, but not for the young and hip. There's very little young and hip in it.

Absolutely amazing experience! The food was delicious from start to finish. I had the cheese…read moreravioli with palomino sauce, and it was perfectly cooked and full of flavor. My husband ordered the spaghetti and meatballs, which were just as incredible--classic, hearty, and done right. To top it off, we had the tiramisu for dessert, and you can truly tell it was made from scratch--fresh, rich, and the perfect ending to our meal. Everything we ordered was outstanding. We will definitely be coming back! Highly recommend! Service was amazing! Definitely will come back and get the same server to our table! As for the ambiance, it's somewhat outdated.

It was packed inside and when we inquired on the wait time the hostess mentioned people were staying long and they were very behind. Once we finally got seated we got a private booth with curtains. A warm bread basket (very delicious) quickly arrived and our drink orders taken. The drinks here are quality pours and they brought us extra olives and cherries which we thought was a nice touch. We started off with calamari and escargot for our appetizers. Calamari was plentiful and had big meaty pieces. The breading was a little too salty though. I'm used to calamari coming with a side of marinara but this came with cocktail sauce. It was nothing special and probably wouldn't order it again. The escargot, normally a favorite of mine, was to rave about either. The sauce it came in was very bland and my girlfriend ended up adding salt to it to make it taste better. Main courses were a better choice. I had the gnocchi with Palomino sauce and it was excellent. They give quite a big portion so I had enough leftovers for the next day. The birthday girl got the Veal Mamma Assunta my other friend went with the shrimp Casalinga (their house speciality). They both said they liked their choices but it wasn't anything exceptional. I think depending on what you order certain dishes are better than others. We had a good experience and the portions are large but it just seemed there were a few things lacking that could have made it a great experience. I would still recommend Luciano's but I would come here when it wasn't a busy weekend or during lunchtime.

Lasagna 4stars It had been many years since I had dined here. It is kind of in a corner of my area we just don't get to for some reason. One night we couldn't decide where we wanted to dine and we all said hey let's go to Luigi's. Our first visit was amazing when it came to the fettuccine Alfredo with cauliflower noodles. The Alfredo sauce was absolutely delicious and tasty. The bread basket was amazing with little homemade bread rolls. The spaghetti with meat sauce and meatball was just disappointing and uneventful . More and more we are finding many of the Italian restaurants we go to have spaghetti and meat sauce that is just not what it used to be. It didn't have any garlic flavor, was very heavy tomato based VERY acidic and the meatball was again just OK. Lasagna was delicious. I asked to add Alfredo sauce on top ,one of my favorite things to do when it comes to lasagna. We returned for a birthday dinner probably just four or five weeks later. Basically we all ordered the same items except for the lasagna. I went for the pizza which was very very very good. The Alfredo with gluten-free noodles were not very good this time. There was so much parsley in it. All you could taste was a dry green flavor, it did not have a great Parmesan flavor, and there was no garlic that we could taste. The chicken was OK. The spaghetti with meat sauce and meatballs I can only explain as being subpar. This time it did taste like tomato paste diluted with tomato sauce, and it was actually the same thickness and flavor of the minestrone soup with very Little meat . The meatball again was just OK. We could pour the liquid sauce off of the plate. Noodles appeared to be drained, it just seemed like the sauce was extremely thin with minimal meat and just minimal flavor. Really not sure if we would return. Inside is a little dated, however well maintained and clean. Our first time dining here we had great service. This second visit, again our server was subpar. When they serve pizza, they put a piece on your plate and serve that to you and then bring the whole pizza to the table. The waitress asked if we wanted Romano cheese on on the food and I said sure. She failed to put Romano cheese on the piece of pizza she herself served to me on a plate. I did not say anything ,and it could have been Me but the two people at the table felt the same way I did, our server just didn't seem invested in our dining experience. We did let our server know about our disappointment with the spaghetti and Alfredo dish. A manager never came to speak with us, they never offered to take anything off of the bill considering my son didn't even eat his spaghetti with meat sauce(where was the meat actually there was not much that could be located). And , the waitress could see how much parsley was in the fettuccine Alfredo. She did ask if they could remake our meals, but we are not very comfortable with sending our meals back to be remade. Removing the spaghetti with meat sauce would've truly been an appropriate move. We did not expect that two whole meals would be removed from the bill being my partner was so hungry he went ahead and ate his birthday dinner ,fettuccine Alfredo.

They were great with accommodating our large group and our server was amazing! Everyone enjoyed their meal and everything was served quickly. They even gave us separate checks, which was super accommodating. I was never the biggest fan of gnocchi until coming here where the owner is making fresh ricotta gnocchi daily. He even came over to the table and checked in with us, which made the experience feel so much more personable! I ordered the eggplant parm and subbed for palomino sauce... it was incredible! Be sure to try the chicken gnocchi soup- SO good. The ambiance is dim-lit and romantic, but comforting and decorated like an intimate restaurant in Italy. They also have a great wine selection. I cannot wait to come back!

There was a little hiccup -- no website or photos of the menu that I could find anywhere online. I realize I might be spoiled since the pandemic but not being able to even pull up an online menu (or quickly place a to go order online via Toast) feels like a missed opportunity, especially when they offer a full to go menu. When I called the business, the woman on the phone seemed confused about our dietary restrictions (vegetarian) and when I asked what she could recommend she didn't offer all the veg options on the menu to us, even after I clarified what I meant. She seemed annoyed that I didn't know what I wanted to order without having a menu. After going on yelp and looking for recommendations I was excited to try the mushroom soup... but it was sold out (another surprise since it was barely 5pm). Ultimately what we did order - palomino gnocchi - was very tasty and generous portion size so the food gets 5 stars but the attitude was a turn off. I did get a copy of the menu to post here so others don't have to relive my pain :)
