My goal was very straightforward: I wanted to remain blonde while making my hair less high-maintenance. During my consultation, the stylist told me that if we highlighted my hair, it would turn orange. I disagreed based on my previous experiences with partial highlights, as I have had them done multiple times without this issue. We ultimately agreed on lowlights in the bottom section of my hair and highlights on the top. What I was not told was that my hair would essentially be completely dyed brown on the bottom or that lowlights would be placed throughout my hair, including areas where I specifically wanted to remain blonde. An $86 gloss was also used without me being told the price beforehand. The gloss significantly neutralized my hair, leaving me with a neutral brown base and icy highlights around my face. The end result is very different from what I discussed and wanted. Neutral tones wash me out, and I immediately disliked the result when I saw it. I also feel that the explanation that my hair would have been orange was not an adequate reason for the outcome. If there were concerns about the underlying tone, I would have expected those concerns to be discussed with me and for us to come up with an alternative that still aligned with what I wanted. Unfortunately, my experience after the service was also upsetting. The stylist's friendly demeanor changed noticeably during the appointment. When I immediately expressed that I hated the result, I felt that my concerns were diminished rather than genuinely listened to. She even referenced a story I had casually told her about having dark hair during my sophomore year of high school. That story was actually about how unhappy I had been with having dark hair and how my mom eventually got my hair highlighted as a birthday gift. Bringing it up in that moment felt particularly dismissive of what I was trying to communicate. I do appreciate that the salon has scheduled me for a redo on Tuesday. However, because I was so unhappy with the original service, I called and requested to have the correction handled by a different stylist. I understand that hair color can be complicated and that results aren't always perfectly predictable. What is most upsetting to me is that the service I received did not match what I understood we had agreed upon, I was charged $86 for a gloss without being informed of the cost beforehand, and when I expressed how unhappy I was, I did not feel heard. I hope the salon takes this feedback seriously, because I came in trusting them with my hair and left feeling extremely upset about the result.

It was quickly dried and styled in center or side parts, with lots of volume, lift and swing. Elegant and easy. Derek said he couldn't understand me. I should have left immediately. What I have now is an inexplicable cut, 2-5 " off, barely chin length, huge amounts of hair removed, wispy layers everywhere, and texturizing. He has activated a mass of waves and curls never seen before. From the front, the shape is a cartoonish wide diamond. From the sides, a fat wedge. This is the opposite of what is required for copious, European, fine, porous hair with a nape curl and minimal wave. Derek basically has created a White girl Afro. He somehow dried it beautifully, disguising the weird architectural structure by using a tiny brush on myriad narrow strands, drying them straight, and contorting them via elaborate manual sculpting techniques, product and nearly an hour of work. Maybe he planned to do twice-weekly blowdries on it. I have spent many days and dollars elsewhere experimenting with product, techniques and professional advice while attempting to cope. Derek pleasantly refunded the charges and apologized for the "inconvenience." This is far worse than inconvenient.

First they don you with two capes and another item for your neck. Is it cold? They have a closet that warms up your jacket. Second they wash and massage your hair and your back in a massage chair. Next they cut your hair to your liking and walk you through the process - they will tell you what looks good and why. With the amount of meticulous care I've seen them take compared to anyone else blows me out the water. Another hair wash (okay this is new to me since I have never seen a second hair wash in the North) and styling, waxing, blow drying your hair.
