After my first accident and being a loyal customer for 13+ years, I got dropped from their coverage and left to scramble for new insurance at double to triple the monthly premium price. Working with Liberty Mutual has been one of the worst experiences in my entire life. I was hit by an insuree of theirs back in December of 2018, it is now May of 2019 and after a long and nightmarish ordeal this has still not been handled. The first problem I came across was the fact that it took several tries for them to find a bodyshop to work with. While at this doesn't sound so terribly bad, I would like to point out that they told me they would be happy to work with any I so chose...until eventually they settled on one that was quite literally an hour away from where I live. The second was while my car was at the body shop, contact between the two parties was near non-existent! I asked the body shop to contact me with any updates between the two parties, and they were days if not weeks in between phone calls, despite multiple contact attempts by the body shop. Eventually, Liberty Mutual decided that my car wasn't worth the money to fix, and promptly gave me a call (the only time in this miserable period they did anything promptly) alerting me to the fact that I needed to turn in my rental car that same day or it was going to eat into the cost of my payout. They then wanted to immediately move the car to a non-pay storage facility of their choosing, which would have left the entire process within their hands and kept me without any mode of transportation whatsoever, to which I obviously said no to. Since I declined, they've assigned me a contact named Joshua Droste who offered me a payout amount WELL below the Kelley Blue Book value of the car. After I mentioned that fact to him, he immediately told me that the pay out was not a negotiation, but would be willing to pay me even LESS if I would like to keep the car! Talk about talking out of both sides of your mouth! Since that call, I've been bounced back and forth between him and their medical claim department, neither of which says they can resolve the issue! I've been driving a salvage title car for half a year! How the hell am I supposed to continue driving a car that is literally being held together with Zip-Ties and duck tape!? If this review can keep even one person from insuring through Liberty Mutual I'll feel I've done a good deed in the world. Please, to anyone reading this, go though any other insurer, there's no way you could be treated any worse! read more

'Lame' actually indicates a slight percentage of effort, but please know Liberty Mutual (LM) car insurance is about as effective at customer care as a porcupine is with hugs. The only way I have gotten anything done with them is to call them every day asking them to contact the autobody shop for an estimate of damages to my car. Then ask for their appraiser to contact me. These little tidbits and much, much more seem to be processes well out of their protocol. I won't mention my auto insurance provider (small green gecko) but in a previous auto accident they were 2 steps ahead of me the whole way. I think the LM team must be graded on the amount of customers they have pissed off. I'm one. I hope you'll not be one as well. read more

I will never go with Liberty Mutual for anything. I recently bought a home last year and had no problem setting up home insurance with them. A couple of weeks ago we got something in the mail saying they could not renew our policy because of the renovation we were doing? the only thing that we were doing was in the middle of replacing the outside trim. so all the trim was off at the time they came out. we called liberty mutual and asked what renovation are you talking about. To find out that they are not renewing us because our house is a modular?? We have been insured by them for a year now! we asked why did it the letter we received say renovation then? they could not give us an answer to that. terrible read more

Have all my insurances through LM, which gives me a discount. Also getting an alumni discount from my college. These discounts are the only reason I am with LM. My initial encounter with my renter's insurance agent was extremely disappointing. He consistently forgot information and got information wrong. I had to put in a lot of effort. When I wrote to my agent's boss, I got an appropriate and swift reply, and am now with a much better agent. Still, without discounts, I don't know if they would be worth it. read more

I switched to Liberty Mutual last year and have multiple policies that I gave them. In 35 years of having a home owner's insurance policy, we have never submitted a claim. We had a problem which created some damage to the bathroom floor. I called the office and they sent it in to claims. We had a repair company come take some photos and then never heard anything back from either the claims department, or the company. I had to make the calls to find out that they denied the damage as "wear and tear". Since when has a leaking toilet under the tile been a wear and tear. Do you expect tile to wear out over a period of time. They did not have the courtesy to call or even take care of the claim. STAY AWAY FROM LIBERTY MUTUAL. They only want to collect the premiums. read more

Moving from Chicago to Sacramento, I found out that American Family insurance, the company I have been with for nearly 20 years, doesn't sell insurance in California, so I needed to find a new company. Based on the reviews here, I called Jason Heffes. He answered the phone right away, took some info and went to work customizing a renter/auto plan for me. Since I was literally running errands near his office, I stopped by, he went over the details of the insurance with me and within an hour, I had lots and lots of insurance coverage. It pays, literally, to get good reviews here as the insurance industry is VERY competitive. Jason seemed really happy to get an easy sale close within 90 minutes of the call and I am so happy to have the insurance... I feel comfortable that if I ever need anything or have a claim, he will be right there when I need Liberty Mutual... no offense, but let's hope I never have to see him again (fingers crossed, no accidents!)! :) read more

They used to be great, but now they suck!!!! Stay away! It's a hassle getting them to do anything. There's no one to advise you, help you, or anything. No one ever calls back. I was rear ended a couple of years ago and Liberty Mutual sent me a check for the cost of repairs minus the deductible. Then they sent me on my merry way to collect from the other driver's insurance. WTH?!?!? Isn't that their job? It wasn't worth the hassle, so I ate the cost. Recently, after filing another claim and having it take an act of God to get assistance, I decided to shop around for a new insurance company. In the process I find out that there something on my driving record regarding that accident two years ago and my "lack of coverage". Again, WTH?!?! So I call them and the guy offers to send some form to the DMV to clear it up. Next I get a revised policy tacking on $20 for that damn form. When I call, I get a "There's nothing we can do, that's what it costs." I'm so done with them. I'm now willing to pay more to get rid of these bozos. read more

My experience was similar to Kara V., I could not be happier with this insurance company. My car was totaled in an accident, which of course is an extremely traumatic experience, though thankfully no one was injured. I phoned Liberty Mutual from the scene, in tears, the gentleman who answered was so very sympathetic, kind and understanding, told me to take my time to collect myself, and promptly sent me to a very nearby Enterprise car rental office. I was given a great, brand new Ford Escape, even including satellite radio (to which I am addicted!) and sent on my way. Afterwards, I dealt with several agents at the Howe-Arden branch of the company. If I couldn't get the previous one I had spoken to I was always able to get one of them, and they all had my information at their fingertips, so there was never any need to wait for a call back. Although it would have been slightly less expensive for them to repair my car, they chose to total it, which was such a blessing, because there would have been no end of problems with a repaired car which had sustained so much damage, plus it would have had zero resale value. They gave me a super generous check, no way could I have gotten that sum had I attempted to sell the car myself, and were very generous too in letting me remove my satellite radio unit from my totaled car :-). If you ever go through an experience as traumatic as totaling your car, I should hope you have an insurance company as sympathetic, thorough, professional and generous to help get you back on your feet. I lost my watch and ring on a golf course 4/8/09. I turned in a claim and sent in all the info about the two items lost and gave the name of the golf course and the contact person at the golf course. They sent a special investigator out to visit me at my home. The guy looked at me and ask what I did for a living and how I make ends meet since I was not working. Right away I knew this was going to be a struggle. 7 weeks later he is not done with my claim and has waited 6 weeks to call the golf course to confirm that I notified them of my loss. I asked for the status on my claim and he stated that he was waiting for a return call from the person at the golf course that I notified about my loss. I talked to the claims guys manager and expressed my concern about the length of time it took to contact the golf course. The manager expressed that they were waiting on a return call from the golf course. He assured me that they would contact the course rather than wait for a return call. It was not done and when I followed up with the claims guy he got real nasty and told me that he is not going to allow me to go out and purchase the items myself and Liberty Mutual had that option. When I asked why I was told " I don't need a reason" I feel that I have been singled out for whatever reason and I hope like heck it's not about my RACE..... read more
