I finally was able to make my way into their new office this past Friday, September 12, 2025. First off let me say I have been a part of this insurance group for many years. I have had a great customer service with all of the agents that I had to do business with previously. So this visit, was no different. It actually was more so relieving since I was so stressed out about my policy. I recently had some fraudulent activity occur with another merchant, which was affecting my payment due for my auto/renters policy payment. Sarah, who is my Angel on earth calmed me down was super thorough, answered all my questions and provided detailed information for me regarding my policy. There was a gentleman there. I forgot his name, but he was just as helpful as well! This was my first time having an interaction with both of them, but once again, like I said the customer service in this officeover the years has been impeccable. Horrible office. Had SF for 30+yrs. Moved to Natomas and switched agent to have one close. Problems from day 1. This office couldn't get anything right, constant headache to call and fix their mistakes. Had to go in a couple times because they wouldn't fix over phone. Reception staff were horrible, absolutely ignorant to all things insurance. Rates would increase every other month and I wouldn't be advised, kept telling me that's normal. Lies. To be fair, Max is pleasant to speak with but always defers you to his staff who are fairly incompetent. I switched to another agent 8yrs ago and haven't had a problem since. I receive all notifications, responses to all inquiries. And every single change is communicated. Example, insurance increased less than $2/per month recently and I got a call to advise me. Claims are paid fast as normal, within days via direct deposit, etc. I love SF. Avoid this agent! read more

The owern after the review called and gave the explanation. He's a lot nicer than his staff. Fee hike - No call back We have car and home onwner insurance with Max Lam for a year, suddenly we noticed our card is charged more. We looked back the statement, turned out our fee is hiked 10%! There was no notice, just ONE LINE in the renewal letter (who the hell read that). I tried to call the office multiple times and it went to auto voice due to 'Covid' - come one, everyone is back to the office by now. I sent the email and no one replied or whatever. Arniel provides fast and awesome customer service. He explains to us the details of our policies and the pros/cons so that we are educated as consumers. He is always professional and friendly. I would give 0 stars if I could! This State Farm office is very dysfunctional and made up of rude customer service reps who honestly don't care about you or your problems. Every time I called their office I would get someone different and would be told a different story or promise regarding our issue - and I was following up for months! I was also told by a specific rep that I would be called when the issue was fixed but she stopped working there and nobody in the office ever followed up with me. My husband and I were getting charged over $100 extra a month on our car insurance premium for a mistake they made on their end in regards to my husband's driving age. This problem went on for 4 months and it was never resolved. In fact, at one point the customer service rep Dawson informed me that nothing could be done and he was rude and clearly unwilling to help us solve this issue. He would also make up lies about what was going on which I later found out were lies when my problem was fixed in less than 1 month after switching to Trevor Fong State Farm. If you're considering coming to this office for any insurance, DON'T. I'd recommend Trevor Fong's office instead. read more

For example, during a recent lengthy re-finance process of our home, we hit a snag with our mortgage holder's requirement for a specific type of flood insurance. Our flood insurance had a different designation than what the mortgage holder required. Instead of just forwarding me what I needed, Max and Esther went the extra mile by contacting our mortgage officer directly to make sure they had everything they needed. Also, on the business side, our company van was vandalized last year. Our company could have been crippled by the vandal as it was our only company vehicle. I am so unhappy with the customer service that I have received from Max Lam's office. I called to find out why my rates went up and the lady that called me back was so rude. We only switched to State Farm because we bought a house and Wawanesa was not offering home owners policies at the time. I explained that in three years at Wawanesa my rates went down and she said "that sounds too good to be true and that I shouldn't have switched." Unless you like long wait times for an agent to call you back and unexplainable rate increases, I would encourage you to shop around. I've been insured with Max's office for 9 years. They have always provided great customer service as well as claim service. When my car was in a hit-and-run accident, I contacted my agent, and they connected me right away to the State Farm representative who made sure I was okay, took down my information, and had me set up to have my car examined and fixed. When a rock chipped my windshield, which soon after became an 18" crack, my agent explained to me about the deductible, and quickly linked me with a glass company that scheduled to have my windshield replaced within a few days! I just moved up to Sacramento from the Bay Area and in the process of buying a house. I was recommended by a friend to reach out to this office for home insurance. I met with Frank and he was very thorough in explaining home insurance coverage. I had always thought insurance is very complicated, but Frank made it easy to understand. He also went into detail explaining auto insurance and how bundling the auto and home insurance saved me money. He also went on to explain the umbrella policy which I had never heard of. I'm glad he did, because I feel we definitely need it, and it's very inexpensive for the umbrella. All in all, I ended up signing for home insurance, auto, umbrella and flood. Max Lam has been my State Farm insurance agent for the past 8 years. He is an outstanding agent! My wife and I each have a life insurance policy, two car insurance, and homeowner's insurance with State Farm, courtesy of Max Lam. Over the years, he has been very helpful in guiding us in deciding which products would best fit our needs. He does not try to sell us products that we do NOT need. Moreover, about two years ago, I was involved in an accident in which I accidentally bumped into a woman as I was making a left turn on a green light. Fortunately, the woman was not seriously injured as she was able to get up and walk to the bus stop and hop on the bus. After the incident, I immediately called Max and told him of the accident. I was clearly at fault. Max calmly took my statement and asked me a few questions and then told me that someone from State Farm headquarters would be contacting me the next couple days for more details. I never heard from the woman I bumped into as she settled for $25,000 but I am so glad Max handled the matter in such a professional and sympathetic manner. I definitely would refer Max Lam if anyone needs any insurance products as he is a consummate professional. read more

I feel like I've been scammed. Following a pretty massive spine surgery and scary hospital stay, I came home feeling a pressing urge to get life insurance. After some online searching, I decided on State Farm. I sent an inquiry online and was contacted by Max Lam's office. Our phone conversation was very long and we filled out the application form with the agent over the phone. It was initially unclear whether a medical exam was required, despite me choosing State Farm because it said online that there were no medical exams under a certain amount of coverage. We were told a premium amount and told that we needed to make the first payment immediately (despite not yet being approved) and I was confused about why we would start paying when we weren't even sure if we would be approved. We were told that this wasn't a matter of not being approved, but the underwriting and medical exam may show that the premium would be higher that we were initially quoted and that if that happened they would call to discuss it. Over the next week, we had additional phone interviews to go over medical history, I had to disclose all the medications that I am currently on including the medications for chronic pain from a back injury I sustained over 10 years ago and had literally just had a major surgery for. Underwriting dragged the "approval process" out for over 4 months, despite knowing that I suffered from chronic pain (a disqualifying issue) from day one, and continued to charge me the monthly premium for 4 months. I finally just received a letter to inform me that I was not approved and had been disqualified due to "chronic pain." When I spoke to the agents office, I asked, "why did you continue to charge me for 4 months, knowing that I had a disqualifying issue that you have been aware of since day 1? and am I going to be refunded the almost $500 that I have been charged in premium payments?" to which the agent responded that California law stated they do not have to refund me because technically I was covered during that time. The last 4 months have been a complete waste of time and money, and I don't understand how they can justify taking my money every month and leading me to believe all was good, when they knew from the get go that I had a disqualifying medical issue. I was up front and honest with them and they took advantage of an opportunity to basically scam me out of money. As an educated and knowledgeable Agent, he should have been up front with me and told me that my chronic pain or medications likely would have disqualified me but instead he was just a deceitful salesman. Clearly, ethics are not something this agent believes in. Just because you can technically get away with it, doesn't mean it's the right thing to do. read more

The communication here is so great. Last week I called and talked to Melissa Alves. I needed her to call my bank ok financing my car with to give them my insurance info. She took care of it right away and sent me a courtesy email to let me know everything was taken care of. She did all of this in less than 30 minutes. I just moved a policy from out of state to this location. I have worked primarily with Chris. Chris was very helpful when I was initially researching agents but since that first call, it has been an uphill battle. They seem to struggle with listening to their clients in this office. I provided all information from identification to payment and all information was entered incorrectly which in turn caused my premium to increase until corrections could be made. Every step in acquiring a policy with this agency has been a struggle. They get one star for location convenience. If you decide to use this agent, first-shame on you, but second-be sure to read all correspondence. The smallest error can increase your rate and The Max Lam Agency of State Farm makes many mistakes. Recently had an insurance claim, I was given great customer service by Mercedes Sellers and the rest of the group. Max must have a great training program one might think after a claim your insurance would not be so happy with you etc. Mercedes helped me understand my claim and options, she made several calls trying to help me get all the answers I need. I was very concerned about my situation before Mercedes took the time to go over my policy and help me with getting my car towed to auto shop. I was a little frustrated that I didn't have rental car insurance she was able to help me with that as well.
