I have been going to HR Block for many years, having seen a few different accountants. This year,…read moremy accountant appeared incompetent in many areas. I dropped off my paperwork ahead of time, and when I arrived she had most of my form completed. As we were going through things, I asked where/how my mortgage credit certificate would affect my return. She stated, "Yes, I forgot about that - what is this for anyway?" I had to look it up on my phone to show her what it was, and she then did a google search to find out what to do with the form. I'm not confident that I was completed correctly, as she got her info from a google search. I could have done this myself, and saved $370. I come to HR block for tax expertise - she certainly did not live up to my expectations. Further on in the review process, I caught the mistake that she charged me tax on my IRA withdraw. This withdraw was exempt due to a first home purchase. She never asked me about the withdraw, and blamed it on the "coding". If you have a simple 1040ez they may be worth it. However, if you have a more complicated case, I advise avoiding this office. Very disappointed....

We depended on H&R Block, who advertise themselves as full-service small business tax advisers, to…read moretell us what to file and pay for our business taxes. They neglected to prepare and submit all the appropriate forms and payments our business should have submitted. We now have fines for $3,673 from the State. H&R Block refuses to take responsibility and reimburse, saying we should have known about that form they forgot. That's the whole point of going to H&R Block -- for them to tell us everything we need to do. They've left me holding the bag for thousands and thousands of dollars.
