    Truffle fries with aïoli sauce

When you walk in the atmosphere is typical bar look and feel. We stopped here for lunch because my partner has been here before and wanted to share it. Our waitress was AMAZING! She was so friendly and helpful. I ordered the chicken bacon salad with truffle fries ( recommend by waitress) and my partner got the braised pork shoulder sandwich with french fries instead of chips. The food did not disappoint! We're bringing friends back asap!

This is a must stop, great local family owned place with amazing burgers and cheese curds! The staff is super kind and attentive and this is your classic neighborhood bar vibe. The burger was one of the best I've had and the cheese curds were crispy and gooey inside.

Had to stop out here to see for myself why this bar is on the top of lots of polls for burgers. It's a very friendly good feeling place with some interesting things on the menu like the pull tab popper. My wife got the bacon cheese burger which was perfect with crispy bacon and cooked medium like she ordered. I ordered a regular hamburger which was way over cooked and dry. Not a deal breaker but dissapointing. The fries were good but were not drained first and were swimming in oil on the plate. The coleslaw was excellent and a generous portion. So, we did like the place and would return and hope for a little better in the food preparation .

They won 2024 Cap Times Burger Week championship. Pull tab popper burger was the one that won the competition, and was available till the end of June. So stopped by to try it. It was a real flavorful burger worthy of the title. It even had 2 jalapeno poppers in it. The burger was flavorful with a lot of bacon and aioli. It was a big burger. Eating it was a messy affair. Had I had this burger during the burger week, I would have voted for it too. For side, I went for Frolic fries, which was funnel caked fried to resemble french fries. End of the day it is still funnel cake.

PLEASE DON'T EVER GET RID OF THE PULL TAB POPPER!!! I literally will dream of this burger every day for the rest of my life. I don't want any other burger as long as I live!

Stopped in for lunch, the food took over an hour. We finally asked refills on our beverages when the food came & there was something floating in the water glass so I went without. I ordered my burger medium rare and it was over cooked, no pink at all. The sourdough wasn't toasted so the burger completely fell apart. The chips were cheap bagged chips. A staff member repeatedly went out to the smoke patio and smoke lingered to our table which was not appreciated. Overall disappointing, I had been here in the past and had the spicy chicken sandwich and enjoyed it.

Licari's Bar and Grill is a hidden gem with delicious affordable pub food right here in Madison, WI nothing fancy but truly a great dive bar! :) Licari's is one of my favorite small Wisconsin hometown bars in Madison that is truly a Bacon Lover's Paradise!!!! This local, small, casual hometown bar has great food, a nice selection of tap beer, and friendly staff! Licari's Bar also has affordable drinks, bar games like darts, outdoor patio seating, and serves bar food late night! You can even call an order on the phone ahead of time and the food will be ready for you! This bar is one of my favorite must go destination for delicious bacon cheeseburgers!!! They don't skimp on the bacon piled high with yummy crispy bacon!!!!! They offer some low carb menu items such as delicious naked unbreaded Cajun chicken wings and salads with chicken/steak that can be piled on with delicious bacon cooked perfectly with side of ranch! It is not a gluten free establishment but they do offer a few gluten sensitive menu food options! Licari's Bar is a great place to go when you are craving delicious deep fried pub snacks/bar appetizers such as pizza rolls, jalapeño poppers, pickle chips, tator tots, etc. They also serve great daily home cooked meal specials (varies day to day), soup, variety of delicious sandwiches, fried chicken wings, unique scrumptious tasty burgers with crispy hot fries, and they have a nice Fish Fry!!! Licari's is really just a super fun low key bar to go to enjoy to watch the game, play a few bar games, enjoy delicious pub food, enjoy a beer, and sip on a Wisconsin Style Old Fashioned cocktail! :)

    BBQ Bacon Cheddar Burger

I stopped in here with a co-worker for a working lunch. It was actually quite busy, but they kept up pretty well and had plenty of staff working. We ordered cheese curds, bbq bacon cheddar burger, and just a regular bacon cheddar burger. The cheese curds were delicious and you CANNOT beat $6 cheese curds these days! The burgers were loaded with almost a half a point of bacon, which is amazing! My main reason for the rating, is the fact that the burger was so overly greasy that my stomach was so uneasy after lunch. Some might say that grease is how you know it's good, however, just putting anything from the deep fryer into a paper towel lined pan first would really help. The fries were some of my favorites though! But I am sure I will be back to try again. The price point and service are definitely worth a second time around.

Super clean and quaint establishment! We came here for my birthday dinner and it was just as other reviewers had posted. Great prices, great burgers (even had GS options) and a good variety of appetizers that arrived quickly to our table. So many different side choices, it was a lot of fun choosing.

Such a cute "dive" bar and grill! The wait staff was amazing. The lady we spoke to was the daughter of the business owner - family owned and operated for about 60 years! I love supporting local businesses and families, but that's not the only reason I'll go back! The food was good, service was excellent, and the atmosphere was laid-back and welcoming. Plus, look at all that BACON!

We sat at the bar, look at this beautiful, delicious, and very filling salad.

Visited here Sunday afternoon as I am a salad lover and heard of their amazing chicken bacon salad. We received our drinks right away. The staff was very friendly saying hello when we came in and thank you & goodbye when we left. We had their fried cheese curds & that salad with bacon and chicken, chopped up tomatoes, cheese, house made ranch, and a peppermint patti on the side which I believe I forgot to eat. When you combine fresh lettuce and a delicious house made dressing salads are just wonderful and this one hit that bar. It's been a while since I had eaten bacon on a salad this was nice freshly cooked bacon as well. Licari's gets my vote.

It is a very old diner, so everything is very dated but in a classic way. The food is a great value for the price. We both got cheeseburgers. Solid burger, a bit dry. The onion rings were my favorite. They were so crispy and delicious. I do wish they had the classic restaurant buttermilk ranch instead of the bottled stuff. The fries are on the crunchier side, but not bad. My only issue was the service. We sat at one of the tables in the back and it took almost 15 minutes before someone came over to us. We tried to wave one of the servers down, but they were busy with the other customers. We considered leaving because we thought they forgot about us. Eventually, we got the attention of the server at the bar. Unfortunately, other than taking our order, she never checked on us and didn't refill our drinks. We were also confused at the end when it came to paying. She went to another table to take their money and bill, but we waited a long time and she never came to us. We ended up walking up to the bar and paying there because at that point we were there for over an hour already. Lesson learned. We should've waited for a seat at the bar so she could have noticed us. If we were in a hurry to get to a game, this slow service would've been a bigger issue. You get what you pay for I guess. Come for the inexpensive food, not the service.

The restaurant is fairly small, but cozy. The ambiance is very relaxed and social. It was a bit noisy but a good noisy, not obnoxious noisy; people having good conversations and lots of laughing. Our server greeted us in a timely manner and took our drink order. I ordered an old fashioned, my wife a Hugo spritz. Both were fantastic but just a heads up, the drinks were relatively strong. The menu is relatively small but still enough to choose from and not be disappointed. My wife and I both ordered the 5 oz filet with shrimp. We split a side of green beans. When our food reached our table, we thought that it might not be enough to fill us but we were more than full afterwards and agreed that anything bigger might be too much. The food was excellent, one of the better steaks I've had in a while. The service was good and our server, Sammy, did a real nice job of taking care of us without being overly intrusive. Prices were appropriate for the quality, maybe a little higher than you would expect but still worth it. If you're looking for a high quality, local small town steak experience that isn't a chain, I highly recommend Driftless Social.

The automated recording said to send a Facebook message for reservations, so I went to their page. It was very simple, and was able to get a reservation for 7:30 pm. I asked if it made a difference that it was for a birthday celebration, and they said it definitely mattered, and that they offered a boozy dessert if that was something he would be interested in. When we arrived Saturday evening, we were immediately ushered over to our table. It was the perfect spot for a duo, and the atmosphere was very cozy. Everyone was so kind and we immediately ordered beverages - I chose the Aviation martini, and my husband a glass of Caymus. Martinis are obviously all alcohol, but DAMN was it strong. I don't drink much anymore, so it may have been a poor choice for myself. My husband had been wanting to try Caymus for a long time, and he enjoyed his glass. For our entrees, I opted for the 5 oz. filet mignon with coconut shrimp and a side of Smoky's onion rings. For the accompaniment, I chose the garlic & fine herb cheese crust, which was phenomenal! My mouth is watering as I type this, recalling how delicious it was. I ordered my steak medium, but it was definitely more on the medium rare side. I would have sent it back, but by the time I discovered it (it was so dark in the restaurant) it was mostly just the middle left. I decided to box the remainder up to cook further and enjoy at home. The coconut shrimp was sweet and crunchy (perfect) and the onion rings were very tasty, especially with the side of peppercorn ranch. For his entree, my husband ordered the 16 oz. ribeye with local melted bleu crust and Smoky's hashbrowns. You know he loves his steak when he takes a bite, closes his eyes, and chews it slowly. Driftless Social knocked it out of the park with this one! He absolutely devoured it. His only complaint was that the bleu cheese was more of a sauce, and less of a crust. Now on to the hashbrowns - we LOVED Smoky's when it was still around, and when we found out that Driftless Social was incorporating favorites from Smoky's, we were stoked. My father-in-law worked as a bus boy there in the 1950s, and we considered it a staple in our families for many celebrations over the years. We were gutted when it closed. These hashbrowns, however, were not what we remembered. They were almost reminiscent of a potato bake, which was a little too starchy for us. We really enjoyed the crispy top though! When it was time to order dessert, I mentioned to the waitress that it was his birthday. She listed off 3 desserts, so we assumed that all were complimentary for birthdays, and not just the boozy dessert that I was informed of ahead of time. Partly our fault, but it was also presented in a strange way. My husband ordered the apple crisp (absolutely HEAVENLY), but we were charged for it. We asked the waitress to see if it was a mistake, and she said it wasn't. I did reach out via Facebook messenger to the restaurant regarding this, and they were so kind! They sincerely apologized, and are sending a gift card in the mail. We are very excited to return - I need more of that garlic & fine herb cheese crust in my life!
