Lice Happens was an absolute God-send for my family. I must give individual credit to each (astounding) lady that helped us. Nancy, MJ, Kristen, and Kristen were my angels in disguise. They saved myself, and my two daughters from a lice issue that had been on-going for four weeks. It was an absolute nightmare and they were there to support me, inform me, train me, and give moral support. As I had never dealt with lice until four weeks ago; I had no clue what kind of hell I was about to put my family through. When I first discovered lice in my five year old daughters hair I was shocked. I could not believe it. I called the pediatrician immediately. They advised me to not only purchase the over the counter products, but to use wives-tales also (olive oil, cetaphil lotion, or mayonnaise to smother the lice. I did everything I was told. I also started cleaning like a had an obsession compulsive disorder. On my first drug store visit I spent a hundred dollars on products (lice & cleaning). I thought to myself if there wAs any sign of lice-life in my house I would bleach it away. We are very clean people and I was beside myself. I couldn't figure out which direction to turn. I continued the OTC's and cleaning process for four weeks. Only to find out that the lice had not only stayed with my five year old, but spread to myself, and my 18 month old as well. I was past the point of this (lice) being an inconveniencing situation it was ruining my household. The day I discovered our 18 month old had lice my husband came home and shaved our youngest daughters head. It sounds like a rash, crazy decision, I know. I was devastated. Just the day before this traumatizing incident I had went out to not only purchase more OTC lice treatments, but had the pediatrician call in a prescription treatment. I did the treatments separate days so I didn't hurt the girls scalp. One would think that would kill an army of lice. No. Not even the slightest. *I also spent $473.00 on each carpet, and couch to be steam cleaned by a company. **at the end of all these products & steam cleaning over a four week span we had spent just under $1000.00. I don't know about anyone else, but we don't have money like that. We pinched it all together though. We were convinced (and under the misconception that lice, or lice eggs could transfer anywhere & everywhere. When finally speaking with Nancy at LiceHappens in Annapolis I found out that all of the above measures were completely unnecessary. I was completely defeated by the time I met my God-send, Nancy. She made me feel better about the money I had flushed down the toilet (so to speak). She told me it was okay, and to just enjoy the "early fall cleaning" I had been doing. I was in tears. For days, and days, and days. I was crying when I first spoke to Nancy. She assured me everything was going to be okay. And....TO TAKE A BREAK!!! She was so confident that we would resolve this issue that she even told me to buy a bottle of wine to go with a nice dinner, and relax for the evening!!! I was so relieved. The following day is when we had our appointment at LiceHappens in Annapolis, MD. Nancy helped me step by step with the directions, greeted us at the door, and made us completely comfortable. It was the calmest I had been in a month. Nancy, her business partner MJ, and two ladies (both) named Kristen were simply amazing. They worked diligently for two and a half hours. At the end of that two and a half hours we were not only Lice-Free (yayyyyyyyyy!!), but also educated. I felt like a new person leaving their office. It couldn't have been a better experience. I couldn't make it in my lice hell. Not even one more day. These wonderful, professional ladies made that dream come true for my family. I would recommend this company to anyone. The only advice that I will give is to call LiceHappens the first moment you realize that someone in your family has a Lice issue. When i was in middle school i remember my sister getting lice and my mother FREAKING OUT and basically doing everything but burn the house down, so I'v always lived in fear of lice happening in my household. Somehow i got through eleven years of being a parent without ever having lice in our hair, but that came crashing to a halt yesterday. I had had a rash on my neck for about a week, and the itching was driving me nuts. I thought i'd had a bad reaction to a new shampoo that i'd promptly thrown out, but it wasn't getting any better. Finally got in to see my dermatologist who said within two seconds, "you don't have a rash, you have lice." Uggggggh. She gave me a prescription for some super strong pesticide shampoo for my husband and me but said it was too toxic for the kids, so to get OTC Rid for them. I did some looking online and saw that those treatments don't have a great success rate. I went to three pharmacies to fill the prescription and no one had it in stock (they all said "i can order it for you and it will be in next week." UM THIS IS NOT A THING I CAN LIVE WITH TIL NEXT WEEK. So i searched for one of those salons you go to, but there weren't good options nearby and the one i did find only had openings at 10am the next day, meaning i not only had to sleep (not sleep) another night with this issue but also drive two hours and take both kids out of school the next day AND miss work so we could all go. So disruptive. Then i called Lice Happens, and Stacey was so professional and warm and within seconds i was laughing about this issue instead of freaking out. Even though i called at around 10:30am, she was able to set me up with someone to come to my house at 3:15 the SAME DAY. At my house! Lareina S arrived at 3:14 (prompt!) with a rolling luggage bag of supplies and immediately put me at ease. She was so calm and friendly and professional! We started with me and then my husband arrived home with the preschooler (husband had NOTHING, the preschooler had a fair amount), and then my middle schooler came home on the bus and it was his turn (he had some too). She talked me down off a ledge--no, you don't have to bug bomb your house (or burn it down). Very easy steps, and she took a long time to make sure she did several passes on my hair to make sure everything was OUT. Such a relief. I was able to keep the comb and a bottle of the enzyme foam (no pesticides! non toxic!) to do follow ups which are recommended on 1 day, 3 days, and 5 days out. She gave me clear instructions on how to do it, what to look for, and gave me a leave-behind sheet AND little certificates of having both kids treated to show the schools. I have on doubt that if i'd gone the pesticide shampoo DIY route i would have been up and SOBBING at 6am, but as it was she left our home at 6pm and we were nit and lice free and able to enjoy our evening (I had already done a ton of laundry). Both school nurses wrote me back to say "thanks for letting us know and being so proactive, Lice happens is great." Added bonus: my preschooler still had a touch of cradle cap on his head that the comb has now removed. Yay! I wanted to take a moment to thank Lice Happens once again for showing what a great service you provide. I often tell those who are afraid of lice or find themselves in the lice pickle (having lice and not knowing what to do about it) that, "Lice Happens is a fantastic outfit!" You come and solve a problem. You educate the customer about what it is and what do to. You dispel myths and soothe a terrified soul. One of your representatives visited us about 3 years ago, near Thanksgiving and got the lice out of my kids' hair and taught me what to do. I was no longer afraid. I knew what to do. Since then, since I sing to kids each school day and get lots of hugs, I lice comb my own hair whenever I take a shower, knowing this way I'll never get infested. Since then, too, I'd shown my own kids how to comb their own hair and instructed THEM to comb their hair each time they shower or take a bath. This is where I slightly went wrong. I should have checked my daughter myself, since she had clearly not been thorough enough. I assumed she was doing it right (but you know what happens when you ASS-U-ME!). She got to her sleep away camp for girls this past weekend, they checked her hair and: NITS! Back home again over the Shenandoah and through the Blue Ridge Mountains she came. I knew that I knew how to get the critters out (taught by you) but the camp didn't...but they trusted that a check over by Lice Happens would seal the deal and she could go back to camp. My husband called Lice Happens before they left the camp and we had an appointment for the early evening. As soon as my husband and daughter got home, I went to work and got out everything I could. Now, my daughter is having a wonderful time at camp, we had another excellent experience with Lice Happens (with Sarah this time), we learned a few new things, and everyone is happy. A HUGE kudos to Sarah who did a fantastic job, was funny and relaxed, gave us confidence and great relief knowing our girl could go right back to her 2 weeks of fun in the Blue Ridge Mountains with all her friends (riding horses, doing archery and drama, swimming all sorts of other outdoor fun). I wish I had used Lice Happens the first time around to save us the money and effort we spent with our lice issue. We discovered lice on my 4 year old daughter with thick ringlet hair in late April. I went to CVS and bought the over the counter, chemical packed solution and used it on her and myself (as a precaution) that night. The whole time I second guessed if I was doing it right and then spent the rest of the night cleaning the entire household's bedding, bagging stuffed animals, etc. The next day I noticed that she still had lice!! I called the doctor and they said to do the treatment again. So I did it to her and myself and redid all of the bedding. The next day they were still there!! We went in to see the doctor and got a $300 RX (basically a pesticide) that we used on her that day and felt confident that we had conquered the problem. Sure enough, a few days later, we still saw bugs!! I was at a loss. I had heard of 'lice ladies' but it was my husband who had the foresight to call the Annapolis headquarters of Lice Happens and was able to talk to someone immediately who assured us that we could control the problem. We were able to have someone come that evening (I don't think they can always make it the day of but it's not a big deal once you understand how lice work) and Jennifer was amazing to work with. The amount of information we learned alone was worth the money. When you understand how lice live and move around, it removes all of the stress from the situation. We didn't have to do half of the things the doctor told us to do regarding cleaning, bagging, etc. It was a HUGE waste of time and worry. Jennifer checked the whole household for lice. She was able to determine, based on the size of the bugs and eggs, that my daughter had it since March!! They lived undetected for at least 4 weeks. She told me that I got lice just within the last week, despite 2 precautionary treatments. We were both treated that night and followed the prescribed protocol and have been lice free ever since. We spent way more money on two CVS packages and one super harsh RX than we did on the Lice Happens service. Regardless of that, it would have been worth every penny to just experience the peace of mind we had with Lice Happens.It really disturbs me how little the doctors know about lice and how they misinform their patients. Late last fall I took a trip to Ireland and the UK and about three weeks after I returned home I discovered that I had somehow managed to acquire hitchhiking head lice during my trip. I had never had head lice as a child and having them as a mature adult turned out to be an ordeal. First off, there is a tremendous amount of false information, including from medical sites, on the web. I tried all sorts of over the counter treatments as well as home remedies. Nothing worked. My doctor gave me oral medication which had multiple potential side effects and which also didn't work. She sent me to a dermatologist who gave me two medications including one that has been banned in California and the entire European Union! They didn't entirely work either. Finally, I bought a really good lice comb and started a combing regime that did help, but it's very difficult to thoroughly comb your own head for lice. Eventually I found LIce Happens and actually went to Annapolis for a combing. One of the owners, Nancy, was fabulous. It turned out that I only had one nit with one viable louse left on my head! After my ordeal it still took me a couple of weeks of daily combing to accept that they were really gone. Due to head lice resistance to many of the current chemical treatments, as they say on TV, "a leading consumer magazine" is recommending that combing is the best method to treat head lice. My daughter returned from sleep away camp with more than just happy memories. After treating her with chemicals twice she complained she still felt itchy. We couldn't see anything and even took her to the doctor who didn't see anything. However the doctor did recommend treating her with an even harsher chemical. Our daughter takes beautiful care of her hair and was mortified about frying it with additional chemicals so we called Lice Happens this afternoon and Jennifer came out to the house by 4:30pm. Jennifer found lots of nymphs and a few nits that we would never have spotted. I had even started to suspect my daughter was imagining things but through the magnifying glass the evidence was revealed. She was so warm and nonjudgmental and it felt like a dear family member came over to help us out of a jam. My 13 year old is so relieved and is upstairs singing at this very moment. AMAZING! Totally loved Lareina! Worth every penny! I doubt reviews sometimes, but I'm a real momma who almost spent months doing what I didn't need to do. Yesterday, one child found one bug and today several of us thought we had nits...we did not!!! In fact, while unusual after finding one bug...all three of our heads were 100% clean today. We fought this battle a little over a year ago, got bad intel from a "professional" in Vienna who totally lied about dandruff attached to the hair being nits and we spent many miserable months treating and doing self checks on multiple long haired family members. I AM SOOOO GLAD WE GOT THE ALL CLEAR TODAY WITH A PLEASANT, KNOWLEDGABLE AND HONEST EMPLOYEE...priceless! The gal who wrote a poor review and thought she paid for nothing when they found nothing...doesn't know what H#$& she could have gone through if she went to a dishonest person like we did last year. Best service ever!! My daughter had lice twice in the span of 3 months and it was exhausting. The first time she had it, we treated it with over the counter medication and combed thru her long, wavy hair twice a day for 2 solid weeks. It would take about 2 hours each time. When she got it again, I called Lice Happens (sobbing). I spoke to Nancy, who calmed this crazy lady and talked me off the ledge. She was able to send Jen out that morning and she was amazing. Lice will make you crazy and there is so much misinformation out there. It was so comforting to hear the truths and the things you should be doing and finding out the things you think you have to do are completely unnecessary! Jen totally put me at ease and I felt more in control after she left. Hi MJ and Nancy, I just wanted to let you know how terrific Jen was when she came to our house on Thursday 8/20/15 to treat our daughter. You came to us about 5 years ago to treat both kids and trained me well. Since then I have successfully treated my son 2 more times and treated 2 other families with multiple kids (and taught parents follow-up care). And we love the chemical free process and it WORKS! Even though I was fairly confident in my skills, Jen gave me a great refresher on the techniques of fast check/cleaning, detailed cleaning long thick hair (and sectioning) and 2-minute quick combing. Because of her help, I have done the quick comb 2-week follow-up care of our daughter's very long thick hair with absolute confidence for 2 days. And no nits! WOW!!! What an amazing service. We found lice in my daughter's hair last Tuesday evening. Gave everyone in the house the Nix treatment that night and combed everyone's hair. But when I woke in the morning, I had so much anxiety over the lice, how was I really going to get rid of it and OMG all the cleaning I now had to do. I found Lice Happens online and immediately called. Stacey answered and was so very helpful and began to relieve some of my anxiety. About an hour later Mary Beth showed up at our house and went through mine & my daughter's hair. Thankfully it was just contained to my daughter. Mary Beth was amazing. Lice is horrible but the only good thing about our experience was Lice Happens. Everyone has been so reassuring and helpful from the first minute I spoke to them. Jeff and Chris arranged to have someone come immediately even though it was a Sunday and follow-up with me after to see how we were doing. They also answered my 8000 questions. The real star though has been our specialist, Ann. She knew I was stressed and anxious about the whole thing. She spent several hours at our house the first night and then called me the next day to see how things were going. She could tell from talking to me I was uncomfortable and she volunteered to come back to my house the next day to check us again. She came after she worked all day and checked all 5 of us, helped me practice the combing and answered all my questions in a very reassuring way. And on top of it all she refused to let me compensate her in any way. I can't say enough good things about her and Lice Happens but if anyone finds themselves in the unfortunate position we were in I'd highly recommend asking for Ann! read more

I wish I could give more stars! My experience was the same as all the other commenters but I had to add my review because I think they deserve as many 5-stars as they can get. They took the stress out of what was, prior to their arrival, a very stressful situation; and yet there was only a 2.5 hour window from the time I called until the time Mary arrived to help our family. Four out of the five folks at our house it turned out needed treatment. Mary stayed as long as it took to make sure we were all clear before she left and that we were comfortable with what we needed to do ourselves as follow-up. I also talked to Carol on the hotline the next day for tips on how to do the follow-up on my own head when I realized that could be tricky and she was extremely helpful and responsive. This was our first, and hopefully last, time dealing with lice and although I hope I never have to deal with it again, I feel much better prepared and feel comfort knowing that if I need them, I've got Lice Happens to help me out. read more

Lice Happens saved the day! We discovered lice on 2 of our daughters last week and attempted to take care of it ourselves. How hard could it be right? Well after 2 rounds of otc pesticides there were still live bugs on both of their heads (apparently the lice have grown resistant to the medicines). We threw up the white flag and called in the pros. I talked to Stacey on the phone at 9 am and she had someone at our house by 10:30 am. They were incredibly professional - got right to work and all the while educating us on how to prevent this from happening again. This was totally worth it. We had discovered one of kids had lice and saw the pediatrician for treatment. Although we followed the instructions, we weren't confident that we had eradicated the lice. So for peace of mind, we contacted Lice Happens. They were able to schedule us quickly for a home visit. Joelle arrived on time. She was patient, calm and reassuring. She checked each of us and showed us how to check regularly going forward. She dispelled any myths or misinformation we had about lice and about how to treat it. I wish I had thought to contact them several years ago when our oldest had a lice outbreak in the classroom. It would have been much less stressful. I've had to dial Lice Happens twice now and it's worth every penny. Both times it was right near a holiday. In fact, just recently, I got a special trick and found my daughter had lice ON Halloween! I called Jim at Lice Happens and he was able to find a technician who was willing to work on her day off to help us get combed through before trick or treating. Mary arrived at 3pm and calmly combed through both my kids hair. They both had it! Thank goodness I called. It is not inexpensive, but it's worth the money to have peace of mind in less than 24 hours. The education the company gives you allows you to prevent and treat on your own in the future. Two points here: (1) lice shampoo, which most schools still recommend, doesn't really work and (2) only really good combing will ultimately remove lice for good. It's been rampant at my daughter's school and she has had lice twice in the last 10 months. The first time, I tried the shampoo and my own combing. The lice were back in three weeks -- and so I called Lice Happens. Came to the house same-day, screened everyone, showed me exactly what to do, and in two days, she and her sister were totally lice-free. When she came home from school with lice right before Thanksgiving, I didn't mess around -- Lice Happens came within hours, and we've seen no nits or eggs since the first day. Great customer service! We found out late in the day that my daughter (5), my son (3) and I all were infested! My husband was working that night so I had NO ONE to inspect me. The pediatrician gave me Lice Happens* and I called them frantic! MaryBeth was at my house within the hour! I was able to make dinner, care for my sick daughter...all the while MaryBeth was taking care of the lice. I was a wreck when she walked in....but we were clean and ready for bed when she left! We found lice on our 4 year old for a second time and called for help. Everything was PERFECT. From the first phone call, I felt reassured. It was really easy to make an appointment and the after work/school hours are great. Mary Beth called before she came and arrived on time. She was super thorough and walked us through treatment and answered all of our questions. Most importantly though was how great she was with our daughter. Super nice person and really easy to talk to....a huge plus when someone is with your family for several hours. Totally worth the REASONABLE cost...peace of mind!
