A unique grocery store, go early to avoid the crowds and the long lines at check out. Lidl is ranked one of the top three inexpensive grocery chain. Note to self, no produce plastic bags ( bring your own if you like ). They have an amazing bakery section with some of the freshest breads around. Their cheese section ( mostly European imported cheese) is absolutely awesome and if you like imported German sausage then you come to the right place. What's with the bad reviews? I asked myself this at first.. and I think I understand now. Trouble finding a shopping cart or basket. Nobody works to bring the carts back to the front of the supermarket. I don't think baskets exist. Cant find an employee on the floor. Need help? good luck.. Sales listed in the circular are hard to find or not in stock. The layout is just unorganized in my opinion. It's not a huge supermarket but they really make it hard to navigate. No shopping bags options. I get it, we should all hwve our own bags by now but sometimes we just dont have any in the car. I'll buy as much as I can carry I suppose. Of all the Lidl Supermarkets in Queens and in western Long Island that I have come to know this branch has got to be the worst. At its core is the seedy neighborhood that Fresh Meadows has become. But the Lidl customer service sucks, the workers are unhappy and appear not to want to be there (in contrast to places like Trader Joes) the management of the store is in constant chaos, its filthy and disorganized. For a German owned chain store this is an embarassment. I wont be returning nor should you. read more

This would be my first experience shopping at this German based supermarket, Lidl. This store replaced the Michael's crafts store that had been here the previous 10 years. The complete renovation happened over a few months and we were anticipating the grand opening on 7/31/24. That first day was crazy crowded with no parking spaces in the entire lot and a line to get in that stretched through the parking lot, down to Haagen Dazs. Now that they've been open for a month, things have settled down. Some friends have commented that this Lidl is bigger than the ones they've been to. The best part of this Lidl has to be the in-store bakery right next to the entrance. The smell of fresh baked bread hits you in the face as soon as you walk in and you can't help grabbing some rolls and croissants. Sometimes the bread is BOGO. The regular bread prices are already dirt cheap at $0.79 for an everything bagel, $0.69 croissants and $0.39 mini kaiser & dinner rolls, but the 2 for 1 deal makes it a steal. Prices for everything else is either really good when it's on sale or don't bother and get it somewhere else. The staples like milk and eggs are on par with other stores. You just have to be careful on the pricing of some items even when they are supposedly on sale. Last week they had vacuum-packaged ribeye steaks for $6.99 each. They are small 10 oz each, but at that price, it works out to $11.18 per pound, while other supermarkets are selling larger steaks at $6.99 per pound on sale. As you go up & down the aisles, there doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason to how they group items. Some aisles seem to have close out and seasonal items you wouldn't normally see at a supermarket. Why do they sell 5 lb packages of plaster of Paris or 4'x1' kiddie pools? I'm still scratching my head on those. Try wrangling one of those onto the scanner at the self-checkout stations. read more

This is the third LIDL store in Queens! Perfect location to serve this neighborhood since most of the large grocery stores have closed in this area. Closest large supermarket is the key food half a mile away. I like Lidl because of the basic selection of the groceries which I need 90% of the time at good prices. Great bakery section and they always have the weekly specials. Btw restroom is in the lower level via elevator. Parking is plentiful. Easy access from LIE service road. read more

Very busy location, but was a well stocked grocery store. I found the few items I needed, but would have bought more if grocery cart was available. I had to carry my items. Floors could have been cleaned better. I came back early on a Sunday and only one checkout lane was open. Why couldn't self service area have a few checkouts open. read more

I had high hopes for this Lidl, but now I shop here only if I cannot drive a little further to other markets. What cannot easily be changed: Shopping here is a miserable experience by architectural design. They managed to take what was a large, airy Michaels store and cut it down into a cramped Lidl with extremely narrow aisles in which it is often difficult to maneuver with a shopping cart. This alone prevents me from doing a proper shopping trip here, and sends me to other markets. What can and should be changed: The staff can be difficult and stonewalling, and one gets the feeling that they just don't want to deal. The other day, I tried returning an item (non-food, unused, in its packaging) purchased in July at another Lidl, and was told that their checkout/computer system cannot process a return of a product not purchased at this exact store. This is both against company policy, and not how modern POS systems operate; the cashier couldn't be bothered, and shooed me away after I'd waited in line for a solid 15 minutes. Don't bother with this Lidl; it's the worst in the area. Drive a little further to one of the others, or go to another market altogether. read more

They always got some annoying nonsense going on. First of all the selection is meh - you can usually find what you need but not always. They never have fresh herbs here like at all. Also it's pretty obvious they don't do overnight shifts bc the employees are always stocking the shelves when you're trying to shop. I GUARANTEE that if you go to this store at any given time, there will be a dude backing up a forklift full of boxes in one of the aisles. I guess this is one of their methods to keep prices low? But it makes for a really unpleasant shopping experience. And if this was something occasional I wouldn't even mention it. But I swear every time I go there at least one of the aisles is at least partially obstructed by someone stocking shelves. And like, driving machinery through walking spaces while customers are trying to shop. It's weird, annoying and honestly just tacky. Also something else that bothers me.. Multiple times I've had this exact situation: I try to buy something, it doesn't scan, employee comes over and says "oh this isn't supposed to be for sale, we can't sell this to you". Why do you have items stocked on the shelves that you're not even selling??? I dunno but honestly I'm not wild about this place I wish there was like a regular grocery store here instead. 2 stars cuz I like the croissants and some of their prices are pretty good but overall it's nothing to write home about. read more

Been here three times already. Went on opening day. It was hot and humid waiting on line outside. Thank goodness there was a kiosk outside serving coffee/juice/water and croissant/donuts to attendees. We had to leave and we come back the next day. It was crowded and filled with may patrons. Second visit- Lots of items on sale. There were items listed on circular that did not ring up for the same amount when you self checkout. This happened to the bakery items, as well as other items. So make sure you check your receipt before leaving the store. There is customer service in the self checkout for assistance. Third visit- Make sure you check price tag listed on the shelves. Some of the prices listed on the app did not match with this week circular. Wednesday starts the new promotions. Couple tips- -Get the LIDL App for more sales and discounts -Double check prices on shelves and app -Read carefully if there is a limit on purchase of sale items -Check receipts before leave store to make sure prices and discounts match There are no numbers on the aisle asked staff where I find the coffee. He said aisle two and I did not see it. Had to ask another staff where is the coffee section located. Staff pointed go down. I asked staff to take me to area which he did. Some staff helpful and others not so much. Keep trying and you will find someone who know what to do. Had issue with purchase last week. Staff said manager not in until Friday (Today is Wednesday. Are you serious?). He was not able to assist and gave wrong information. I asked other staff later and she said she was finishing her shift asked her to take me to someone who can assist with this matter. She took me to customer service and told me to speak to this person. Lo and behold. Other staff was able to rectify the issue. Be patient at self checkout. Sometimes items do not scan and you will need assistance. Flagged someone down because staff with other customer at register. Staff said he be back and he did not come back. Nice having a Lidl close by! Love the sales and the variety of items available. It gets crowded so early morning is better for shopping and plenty of parking. The bad... The app gives you more discounts but it's confusing!! And you have to 'clip' the rewards and extra saving coupons. Prices not always accurate and staff not really helpful. Make sure you check before you pay because any changes after that, you lose you coupons and savings. I brought the wrong ground beef that was not on sale. The cashier helped me with my coupons and clipped 10 off for me. When the beef price was not right, I questioned and he was like, oh can't help you. Go to customer service. When I went back to check the price, I picked up the wrong kind so grabbed right one and went to customer service. The guy helping me here could care less. No smile no greetings. Showed him I brought wrong kind of meat and want to exchange hoping to keep my discount that cashier clipped for me. He said no, so I am out of luck and lost 7.00 of my 10.00 coupon. read more

I came here to read the reviews and someone had the exact same issue as me and same experience so now I'm leaving a review 1) this store has poor or no stock of things on sale 2) fruits and veggies sold here go bad QUICKLY especially if on sale . I came to get strawberries and even though there were at least 60 packages of strawberries I could not find ONE good package when they were on sale 3) this place is UNORGANIZED. As someone said previously I picked the wrong package of beef because the price under it said 4.99 . I got home and realized I was Charged almost $9 for a tiny 1lb package . I went back the next day and was told there was "nothing they could do " and "it's not their fault that the item was placed there and it must have been their organic beef " so I disputed the charge on my credit card I was excited to have Lidl in the neighborhood because I've lived here for so long and it's so close but now I just miss Michaels and I'll be going back to food universe read more

I figured I'd check the Yelp reviews to see if people are experiencing the issues and concerns I've been having. It's time to finally leave a review... At first, I was excited to have Lidl in the neighborhood. I was impressed when they first opened, but everything seems to have gone downhill since July 31st, 2024. That being said, there are a few Lidl brand items that I'm quite pleased with, and keep coming back for. The quality, taste, and price point is worth the trip. The biggest problem I have found with this store is with management and how their employees treat the customers. Most of the managers are rather cantankerous, and their team can either be helpful, off putting or just plain rude or apathetic. Their lack of enthusiasm or interest, is often presented with a sense of being emotionally unengaged. As you can imagine, customer service is horrible, especially when you call them out on an error or problem that was caused by Lidl Corp. They just don't want to deal with it. It seems like Lidl Corp has strict rules on how they do business even if they are cheating the customer. All that said, there are few gems (employees) in the Fresh Meadows staff. They are usually the newbees, the ones that want to do right by their employer and the customers at large. Once they are there for a month or so, they start showing no interest, enthusiasm, or concern about the customer or their questions and concerns just like their teammates do on a daily basis. Product management and placement needs to be addressed accordingly. Their selections and where they place the items is not consistent and is constantly changing as new stock gets placed. It's a guessing game, sort of like a hunt. Where is that item located today that I just purchased a few days ago? Their stock is usually low or depleted for many of their "Weekly Ad" sale items. I get it, stocking for a small store must be challenging, especially for the products that need refrigeration. The fruit and vegetable section is a hit or miss. The produce sold at the Fresh Meadows store goes bad quickly. You truly have to do your due diligence making sure to verify that the product is in good condition. Relying on Lidl Fresh Meadows to properly manage the produce section is usually a bad move. Their mishandling of these fresh goods whether it's their team or the relationships they have with their vendors and third parties is unexceptable. What about the ridiculously long checkout lines? Why would there only be one or two registers when you have 30/40 people on line? When they first opened, there were plenty of shopping carts. Where are all the shopping carts today? One would think that keeping the place clean by removing the trash in the bins, cleaning the aisles of debris, mopping the freakin' floor would be a positive for your good and valuable paying customers. I can just imagine what the storage areas must look like. If they can be as neglectful as they are cleaning the public areas, I can just imagine what it must be like in the back rooms. The bottle/can refund machine is usually "out of order" of order not because of a mechanical malfunction, but because they haven't removed the crushed recyclables from the bins. And, I know this for a fact because a kind (newbee) assistant manager stopped what he was doing and took care of it for me. I asked him how long he was at this store, and he replied, "just about a month." BINGO! I hope his demeanor doesn't change because he was an outstanding individual. read more

I was impressed when it first opened, but it has gone downhill since. When I was there on 4/25/25, there were no shopping carts. I do find their bakery pastries appealing, however there were no larger size pastry bags. Pastry bags skewed on the floor. Some of the vegetable item boxes were empty. Two of the items that they initially carried are no longer stocked. The checkout lines are usually at least 3 shoppers deep. The price/lb on the shelf indication taps are in such a micro size print font, its almost impossible to read, what are they hiding? Last but not least, when was it the last time they moped the floor, disgusting! I hate to imagine imagine what the back rooms must look like? The bottle/can refund machine out of order. No public rest rooms. This store started out great on opening day, but unfortunately since then has been deteriorating since. read more

Disappointed by the Lower-Quality U.S. Products from Lidl -- A Brand I Once Trusted As someone from Europe now living in the U.S., I've known and trusted Lidl for years. Back home, Lidl offers high-quality, thoughtfully made food products that reflect strong sourcing standards, good ingredients, and excellent value. I was excited to see Lidl expand into the U.S. market -- but unfortunately, the experience here has been a major letdown. What's particularly disappointing is that while Lidl still presents itself as a European grocery brand in the U.S., only a small portion of the products sold here are actually imported from Europe. The vast majority appear to be sourced or produced locally, using noticeably lower-quality ingredients, with clear compromises in taste, texture, and overall integrity. To those of us who know Lidl's European offerings, it feels like the brand is leveraging its reputation to sell a watered-down version of itself in the U.S., assuming most customers won't realize the difference. So I have to ask: Why are you doing this? Is it based on the common European perception that U.S. consumers are less discerning when it comes to food quality -- and therefore more likely to accept inferior products under a familiar European name? If so, that's not just disappointing -- it's incredibly disheartening. Please understand that some of us are familiar with both markets. We see the difference. Many of us here know what Lidl is truly capable of, and we expected better. American consumers deserve the same quality and value you offer in Europe -- not a downgraded version packaged in the same branding. Please rethink your approach. Poorly managed store, inexperienced staff and poor customer service. They do not open the self checkout areas until later in the morning forcing you to go to the cashier to check out. Managers can be seen just standing around while lines for the cashiers are wrapped down aisles. Prices are listed at one amount, however are scanned at higher amounts due to a failure to update the codes. There are never any shopping carts regardless of the time of day. Take your business to another community provider who cares about their consumers. read more

I had been looking forward to shopping at this Lidl since before it opened and finally had a chance to go there early on a Sunday morning. It is one of the WORST markets I've ever been to. There was not a single cart outside the store, nor were there any inside the store. Customers were wandering around near the door mumbling about "well, I guess we can just carry our stuff." I found someone walking by who appeared to be a manager browsing on her phone who said, oh, the carts are right outside the door, and I said, where? because there are no carts there. And she said, check by the register. There was ONE cart near the register. And she and the rest of the staff seemed completely unconcerned about this. There weren't even that many customers. This is unacceptable. Folks - the prices at Lidl aren't that great to justify this kind of mismanagement. Drive a little farther and get your specials at one of the big chains. Patronize the small businesses in the neighborhood IOG, an Asian market, is at 19525 69th Avenue, and they have great prices and a larger-than-you-would-think selection of groceries. Fresh Meadows Food Mart is at 69-74 188th Street and they're like a regular supermarket, only miniaturized (but not like a mini-mart). These are small businesses in your neighborhood and they're 10x better than Lidl. I won't go to Lidl again. The prices aren't low enough to grab me and the service sucks. The prices at the neighborhood places are comparable. Go there instead. read more

I some what like the store. They carry some interesting items like escargot. I also like that I can do quick self checkout. But there are a few issues. 1. Sales items are sometimes not in stock. 2. Some produce are moldy. 3. It's hard to find a cart. I see people walking several blocks away from store with them. They need to figure a solution for that problem. 4. It's sometimes messy. It was pretty crowded and unorganized. Lot of trash in the floor. There were some pretty good deals on produce, meats, and pastries... but it was hard getting through the crowd. It reminds me of a Trader Joe's meets ikea marketplace, but more displaced. The cashiers looked miserable, and already have had it after just starting his shift. I may give this location another try early in the mornings and after the hype dies down. read more

The set up seems to be the same as in Europe, but a much smaller store. The selections are minimal and not consistent. For example you aren't going to find good coffee or tea. They are a buyer of "ocean spray" cheaper fruit the same way that BJS has "welch's" and "dole." There are cheap things like cheap pastas and spices you never heard the brands. In Europe we go t Lidle just for toilet paper and bottled waters in the summer and napkins because the joke is that nobody trusts their brands. Seems the same here but I didn't even find toilet paper. I found organic apples which I thought was random and they looked decent in the bag. I paid 5 and change for like 5 apples which is not cheaper than whole foods. I went home and cut one within an hour only to realize they had over-riped and were refrigerated and taken back out on shelves. They were cold and brown inside. So much for sort of decent priced organic. I am just too tired to go back for a refund and complain over my 5 dolalrs. But I now have no reason to come back here. Food Universe which I don't get produce at at least has more quality and ethnic shelf foods and is good for an emergency meat. I used to joke about Target having a market in it but recently I went to that section in New Hyde park and I have to say that food shopping quality selection is better at Target than here. I am very disappointed that side of Fresh Meadows can't have a Whole Foods or Trader Joes or better food in that busy area for teenagers to hang outside of the bad food like Applebees and 5 guys.
