Overall, Marino's seems a little more expensive. The Deli, for example, seems to have higher prices than most, but I think it's reflected in the quality. However, the OUI yogurt was cheaper at Marino's so it helps to know your prices. Marino's is a lot smaller than S&S, but they do a good job stocking the store. In my last review of S&S, I mentioned they did not have capers, filet mignon, or Marino's coconut Italian ice. Marino's Supermarket did have the capers and filet mignon. And although they did not have the coconut Italian ice, they did have the orange and rainbow flavors which S&S did not. There are advantages and disadvantages to both. Perhaps, if you have a large family, S&S is the better option. For smaller food shopping sprees, Marino's definitely is a good choice. 5 stars for Marino's.

I consistently shop at Marino's. The only product I miss is the option to purchase unpackaged fish and sushi. The bread here is very fresh and varied. The meat selection is plentiful. The vegetables well stocked and nice looking. Where this store shines (hold on I need to put my sunglasses on) is the deli/prepared foods department. Not only do most of the prepared foods (mostly Italian) look good, but they are good ... very good. As for the deli, most of their employees know their business (I worked supermarket deli/seafood for 3 years so I know competence). Always a pleasure to be helped by the deli crew. Shout out to Dennis, the deli manager, and thanks for adding more mayo to the chicken salad. And finally, what a fine crew of check out staff. See you folks next week.

I went with my husband…read moreto get groceries and as we were getting ready to check out the owner approached my husband and called him a different name (he called him Terry and my husband's name is Antonio), accused him of having previously stolen hundreds of dollars worth of meat with another guy who have never heard of (Chris). He told my husband he had him on video and when my husband asked to see the video, he told us he doesn't need a reason he just doesn't want him there and we need to leave immediately. We were ejected from the store, threatened with the police and told we are not allowed to shop there any longer. This came out of left field and it was humiliating. I'm also heartbroken because I love this store and I go there frequently. I am disabled and there are not many grocery stores nearby. We are shocked and humiliated.

I think this location has the best seafood and sashimi out of all the nearby Hmarts, and I've found the cashiers here to be the friendliest too. They also carry the Slow Village Makgeolli (느린마을 막걸리), which you normally can get only in Korea and tastes so much better than the other makgeolli brands generally sold in the US. I also love the maple doughnuts sold at this Hmart, though not sure if they're always available (they're made in the US and usually go for $5.99 for a box). I just wish they had people bagging our groceries at checkout, because sometimes it gets pretty hectic when you're rushing to do it yourself and the next customer is impatiently waiting for you to be done. The kind Korean lady with a black bob cut and glasses sometimes bags my groceries for me when I seem overwhelmed b/c I've bought so many groceries, but she's really the only one who's ever helped me bag my groceries. I think if they had someone bagging groceries (or had cashiers doing it themselves, like at Trader Joe's), it would save customers a lot of time and stress!

They also carry a number products and brands less commonly found in other Chinese supermarkets. This Skyfoods is one of a few locations, two in Flushing and one in Elmhurst; this one sits on the first floor of the Shops at Skyview on College point Avenue in downtown Flushing. Walking in from the main entrance to the shops this is kinda hidden towards the back of the building. It's nice that it doesn't usually get too crowded. They give free parking in the structure if you shop and buy over $40. What's nice similar to some other larger Asian grocery stores (Hmart, Mitsuwa) is they sometimes do sampling stations on weekends where they showcase a handful of products. My last purchase of a box of Asian pears was because I got to try a couple pieces of sweet fruit so I felt confident in picking up a box. Aside from fresh produce, meat and seafood, dried, canned and packaged foods, they have relatively larger refrigerated foods and tea/drinks and snack sections. See pics of some interesting products. Also for example they carry some instant powdered sweet fruit (jujube, sour plum) teas here I don't find in other places, and for that reason alone I make a trip here every so often.

It's not every day that you have a family-run Japanese grocery store, so we went out of our way to stop here and we weren't disappointed. The shop is not as big as the market next door but the space is just big enough to house the variety of things they carry, from takeaway meals, bowl, and rice balls to produce to teas and side dishes. I'm not familiar with the cost of Japanese groceries so have little point of reference, but the teas we got were priced competitively. There's a minimum spend of $10 for a credit card payment, but the staff were patient and reasonably friendly. I can see us coming here regularly as locals. I hope they stay open for generations.
