We picked out 3 pair of shoes we want from their display and asked if they have size 7. Without looking or checking in their inventory, the lady refused to check or help us to look for the right size of shoes. Notice that they are having no customer when we were there, they re not busy at all. They are too lazy to help customers and are very rude. Their rudeness maybe because we re Asians? They don't even greet us or ask if we need help. When the lady who is working at this location refused to check and help us on the shoes we want, we just go straight to the Michael Kors store to get the shoes instead of this Strike store. At least the ppl at MK treat us better than the ppl at Strike. I do not recommend this place at all because their customer services is the worst I ever seen!

The shop's got a good selection of both new and old, the buying for vintage clothes is done well, and prices are very reasonable. Hampden doesn't really have any other mens clothing stores (except thrift shops) so its a great addition to the neighborhood. Think of it like the sister...er..brother store to Double Dutch. Sixteen Tons also carries other man-gifts like wallets, cologne, belts, ties, hats, etc. The clothing can be quite pricey, depending on the item, but I did recently notice a sale bin! It's difficult for me to get my boyfriend to step into an actual store, or buy something vintage ("If its used, should it be cheaper?"), so its best that I come here alone and bring back what he doesn't want. I always end up asking a bunch of questions when I'm here- usually about sizing. When the owner is in the shop, he is warm and super friendly and helpful. There is another employee who always seems annoyed that I have the nerve to ask about an item; I really can't take that type of attitude. Customer service, man! I'm hesitant to dock Sixteen Tons a star because of this one guy's attitude. The owner has true vision and really caters to his clientele. He has helpful tips (more ties coming in next week!), good suggestions (how about a cool vintage belt for the guy who has everything?) and asks the right questions to really try to understand who you're buying for. He should pass these skills on to his employees!

I've been a customer there for quite some time, but lately it feels as though they've shifted gears -- in the best possible way. What stands out most is the balance in their selection. They offer an appealing mix of evening wear, casual everyday pieces, and beautifully tailored clothing in rich, flattering colors. The pants are consistently good, the jackets are glorious, and the sweaters are the kind you want to touch. Everything is thoughtfully curated and priced sensibly, which is dangerous for me because I can always find something I won't be able to resist. Their jewelry selection has also taken a noticeable leap forward. They still carry small, affordable, easy pieces, but they've also added more distinctive designer items​ lately -- bold colors, contemporary shapes, and intriguing materials. My partner and I have been venturing into Hampden recently. Charlotte Elliott was one of our finds…read moreyesterday. It's a great little vintage shop. I was pulled in by the bookstore next door. We spent about an hour in there. There's two levels, where books are well presented and deals featured. You walk through the shelves, and you'll see the different genres featured and bins with sale items clearly marked. The upper floor has poetry, photography, gardening, and cookbooks. The street floor has fiction, science books, and women's literature. These are just the genres that I remember. The other side of the store has antiques and other well curated items for sale. You can tell that the owners take a lot of pride in the presentation of their store. I loved it! I recommend anyone in the area to stop by and check it out.

Thank you Seleh for doing such an incredible job altering my wedding dress! Seleh completed a…read morecomplicated alteration that involved removing mesh covering most of the top half of the dress. Before undertaking the work, Seleh ran through some of the considerations, including the fact that the mesh provided structural support that he would need to compensate for around the straps. He finished the dress on time and the removed mesh looked flawless. He completed a second round of alterations after my first fitting. Then, a week or two after I took the dress home (and nine days before my wedding), I panicked about the fit of the bodice and the straps and left a slightly frantic voicemail for Seleh. To his immense credit, he called me back in ten minutes to calmly and gently ask me what was wrong and how he could fix it. He didn't make me feel crazy or unreasonable and made a quick appointment for me a couple of days later. He turned around this last round of alterations in a couple days -- a complex addition of fabric under the dress straps to reduce itchiness and some alterations to the bodice -- and the dress was perfect after that. His work on the straps was particularly impressive because the added fabric was completely invisible despite the fact that the straps were irregularly shaped, ornate, and lace. All in all, Seleh gets top marks for skill, timeliness, and emotional sensitivity (all a must when altering wedding dresses). Thank you again, Seleh!
