It's inside the Shoppers Drug Mart therefore not as big as other locations, since I'm not familiar with its setting, I hesitated a bit when I get there, but the front reception kept asking me to wait that it won't be long ... However, the nurse who took my blood test poked into my vein so painfully, that my arm got bruised even after a few days later. Don't know what went wrong, I thought Dynacare is a big company and their staff should be well-trained and proficient, very disappointed with the service provided

I had the paperwork from my Doctor along with my health card ready for the person at the service counter. Some services are not covered by OHIP and you'll have to pay upfront out of pocket. There's seating for about 20 people. The TV monitor on the wall displays the wait times before you're seen by a lab technician. Staff were polite and efficient. I was in/out in 30 minutes.

Was told that my doctor had not given me the correct paperwork. Had to call my doctor's office, only to find out that the paperwork I submitted was accurate (AFTER the lady on the desk checked with her colleagues). WTF. 2. I asked if I had to pay for the test. She said "no", then asked a colleague who said "yes". Okaaaaay. 3. I handed her my card, assumed she was swiping it (couldn't see beneath the counter top), she handed me back my card and said I needed to pay. WHAT. I thought I just did. No, that's done by someone else. 4. Constant, incessant interruptions by her colleagues left me waiting and waiting and waiting. Finally, I had enough and suggested she focus on completing my transaction to which I received a mouthful and to which I responded accordingly. They need to train their front-line staff AND they need an additional person on the front desk. All I wanted to do was hand in a specimen and it took waaaaaay longer than it should have with a lot of aggro. Go to another Dynacare if you can. This place is atypical of Dynacare's usual high standards.

However - EVERY time I have gone to Dynacare and had my blood taken by Cristina, the Lab Technician, whatever magic or needle sorcery she does - it's painless and over in seconds. And she has consistently taken it quickly and painlessly over the couple years I have gone, is always calm and pleasant, and puts me at ease telling me stories or jokes. In the last few months (unfortunately) I've had to to several tests and can say I've got to know the staff more than the average Joe. They take care of you here, not the "in-your-face" kind of help you get from a salesperson at you clothing store. But they try to make the needle process as painless as possible. And this is what makes me happy here, they're not rushing. I've found out the best time to go is 4-5pm as most people try to go early in the morning as some tests require fasting.

I arrived at 7:50am and already there was a huge line up of people in front of me. I had to wait about an hour to be seen by a nurse, which was ok, especially given I didn't have an appointment. They had two weeks notice to start Saturday care in April but it was two weeks after that until the 1st visit was made. The next visit was 4 weeks later and I was not told that no one could fulfill the contract. The spotty record was not evident until I received the first invoice, which showed 2 Saturday visits in 7 weeks. Since I couldn't rely on Paramed, I called to cancel Saturdays. That was good for 1 week and the following week they sent in a man to provide personal care for a 93 year old lady. I only know this because I happened to telephone my mother while he was there. I emailed a letter to the address on the website expressing my disgust and saying again to cancel Saturdays. It has been over a week and I have not had the courtesy of a response. Last Saturday, sure enough, a caregiver showed up. Today I called again to cancel, so we'll see what happens. Unlike other home care companies, Paramed has no electronic record keeping for the family of the client to see, so you don't really know what has happened. If you are looking for reliable care for a dementia patient, don't deal with this company. Update July 22, 2017. almost 1 month after my letter. My home phone rings at 10am on Saturday. Paramed: The PSW is at your mother's house and there is no answer. Me: That's because she isn't supposed to have a visit on Saturdays. Paramed: She is on a schedule of every other Saturday and this is the other Saturday. Me: No, she is on a schedule of no Saturdays. I tried to have Saturday care but it was so inconsistent that I cancelled it. In fact I called twice and sent a letter. Paramed: (sounds of looking at a computer file). The last entry here is for June 25 and it says that client called to cancel Saturdays. Me: That's right. Whoever decided to make the visits every other Saturday never talked to me about it. Parmed: So I should tell the PSW to leave? Me: (give me strength) Yes. She should leave and no one should ever come on a Saturday, ever. Honestly I wish there was something lower than 1 star.
