I surmise it's what you'll help others do, as well, if you do have a heart in ya. Y'see, when you ride into Vitalant, you stand judgement and answer fer your past deeds, fess up to where you been and what you done. If those of the Phleblo deem you worthy, and accept you into their lands, the gifts are shared. Yours, then theirs. Though you give of yourself, you do so with a mite's hair of discomfort, and the people see to your needs. yes, it's a righteous act to ride to Vitalant. It's righteouser still to return. Just, pray, not light in the head. Y'holler if that happens, y'hear? And there's something else I oughtn't leave out 'bout this story... It's all true. My husband donates regularly because due to a…read morehealth condition, his blood level can be slightly elevated and its recommend that he donates blood here and there. Since we were together I decided to donate too. Granted we came in a little more than a half hour before closing, they took us and had us fill out a survey. After waiting, we went into the rooms to get our blood pressure. They took my reading once and said it was low, and had another person come in the room and take it and they said it was too low to donate and I'd have to come back another day. I take my blood pressure regularly and it was never as low as they told me it was - they said it was around 100 over 46. After walking out, I met my husband which also said that they told him he couldn't donate because his heart rate was too elevated. We both left and went home and took our blood pressures, and mine was higher than they told me (around 110 over 60) and my husbands heart rate was completely normal. It was obvious that they were trying to rush us out of the place because it was near closing. If it was too late to donate, they should have told us that it would take a while and to come back another day. Not lie to us and waste our time. Will not return.

But Heartland has changed their donor rewards program for the second time in the last two years. And the new changes cut the rewards in half compared to last year. The cuts are so bad that for donating 20 times, spending nearly two hours each time, you only receive $125 compared to $300 last year. I emailed them to make sure I understood the new program and they confirmed the changes. Not much of a loyalty program if the company is not loyal to the people who provide them (virtually free) with the product that they sell to hospitals.

I would not recommend anyone to go there! and by the way I may be over 70 but I am very healthy and a lot of what I saw come through the doors was questionable.

I did have trouble making an appointment online, but called and got one scheduled however they also take walk ins. Checkin is self initiated, with lots of sanitizer available, and then a series of tables and chairs to wait at. Right now with the need for blood, it was definitely busy but the staff was very apologetic and continued servicing each donar with speed. I've given blood many times with many centers and I was very impressed with their response when I passed out after donating casually eating my crackers. They swooped me up, got me in a wheel chair quickly with lots of ice packs and settled into a bed. Shout out to Denise who managed my vitals, got my head and lip checked out, then gave all the info to my husband to take me home after clearing it with the rest of the staff. They then called the next day to check on me. I felt really comfortable with this location and the staff that was working enough to go back. She let me know to tell them I had an incident before and they would take extra precautions. I'm happy I could give blood to support those who need it and have so many wonderful people and places to take on that job. Recommend this establishment.

I got in, got checked in right away- we went through all my medical history questions (after checking my blood to make sure my iron levels were high enough to donate) and everything else went incredibly smoothly. Everyone on the staff was informative, friendly and helpful. They said they're in the most need for red cells, so if you're getting that itch to do some good for the world, consider donating red cells -- though of course while blood, platelets and plasma are graciously accepted as well. They make sure you're ok after you donate by asking you to have a snack and wait a few minutes. Really, I felt like they did everything right. Donating full blood took me about 8 minutes. Hoping to go back in 8 weeks (the mandatory waiting period). And you should too.
