I mean, not only is it in an original, historical (and beautiful) church building constructed by Aimee Semple McPherson, the church still practices the original Pentecostal doctrine that Foursquare was once famous for. Pastor Rob Scribner, the senior pastor, is a sharp guy -- a great Bible teacher -- with an inspiring testimony as a former NFL football player and succesful business man. His family is active in the church and his children have excellent testimonies. I wish more Foursquare Churches operated like this one. There is a lot of spiritual life here and the Church has a large Spanish ministry and a Christian School. They seem to be very active in Church planting and missionary work as well. The only downside is the limited parking as the area has grown up around the original property since it was established almost 90 years ago. Worth visiting on a Sunday!

In addition to outdoor and indoor play, the children will make food including challah bread on Fridays, arts and crafts, and do an array of tactile activities (potting plants, water play, and shaving cream, to name a few). The gym is clean and a good place for kids to play and families to watch. The security guard and staff were friendly and helpful. Everyone I interacted with seemed kind and welcoming. They have a coffee next door which is adorable as most catholics come after mass. Walking in, the people are SO KIND and very welcoming! It is such a beautiful place, with high ceilings, architectures, and lots of incredible designs on each of the windows. I loved the priest, the music, and the people. The one thing is that if you sit in the middle main rows, you will be going last, this church does eucharist for those upstairs and outside first, then the sides, from middle sections back to front, so be sure to be patient! Overall, i'd recommend coming here, it was a far drive since I'm from San Diego, but overall great if you live near or around the area!

St. Tim's has a serious lack of funding, and it shows. This burden is transferred to parents: we're…read moreasked and expected to provide classroom essentials -- pencils, paper, markers, cleaning supplies, etc. -- through teachers' Amazon wishlists. Each week, our daughter was asked to come with money to pay for school-wide events, usually to buy Dollar Tree junk food -- a transparent effort of the school to raise much needed money. Volleyballs (the only feature of the "athletics department") are misshapen, lopsided and ripping at the seams. What's more, every water fountain is broken and students are discouraged from using the restroom In groups as a way to avoid high water and power bills. Aside from the more obvious signs, the lack of funding is even clearer behind the scenes: the school holds a "Teachers Matter" fundraiser because the school can't afford to pay its teachers what they deserve, and we parents are asked to contribute even more to teachers' paychecks. In fact, almost everything about the school is a fundraiser: Parents Night Out, pep rallies, school plays and the Cultural Heritage Festival. The only thing more lacking than funds at St. Tim's is the school's leadership. We're so happy we finally left.

The synagogue hosts an early childhood center for pre-school children, a religious school for those preparing for bar / bat mitzvah, an active men's club as well as active women's league. The facility is located nearly adjacent to the Overland Blvd. exit of the Santa Monica freeway on Los Angeles' west side.

Those are some of our most treasured memories. As an Arab American who was raised in a Christian household and who married an Ashkenazy Jew, I was so moved by Beth Shir Shalom's welcoming attitude toward people of all backgrounds and religions that, 9 years ago, I decided to become a Jew by choice. There are a wide array of activities for members of all ages including a superb early childhood center, an innovative religious school, an active and well attended youth group, musical and varied Friday evening Shabbat celebrations, wonderful interfaith activities and plenty of adult education opportunities. This is just the tip of the iceberg. It's amazing how much this relatively small synagogue is able to accomplish. This is thanks in no small part to our wonderful executive director Cynthia. Rabbi Neil became Emeritus a few years ago, but is still very much engaged with the community. Our new head rabbi, Rabbi Alex, brings tremendous youthful vigor to the community, leading us as we increase our outreach and hone our strategic vision.

My daughter started when she was 2.5 years old, and she is about to graduate. She is thriving, has made terrific friendships, and is ready for Kindergarten. The teachers are warm, caring, and engaging with the kids. We had such a positive experience, that I decided to start my son ASAP, which was when he turned 18 months. We love that BSS has a full day option because we are a dual working household. Not only are we a part of the preschool community, but we also participate in Synagogue activities including Shabbat and holidays. BSS is a true gem.
