I have lived in the neighborhood for 10 years and have always admired the beautiful light fixtures in the windows of this store. So, when I recently moved to a new condo I was excited to get my light fixtures from there. I did some research about the fixtures I liked on their website and went to the store this morning. I arrived early, around 9:15 and the sign said the store opened at 10. I went to breakfast and returned at 10:02. Both doors to the store were still locked and it wasn't until I tried both doors, two times each that an employ came an opened the door. I ask if they were open, he said yet, but the timers on the doors sometimes don't work. He offered no apology, which was fine really since it was only 10:02. I then entered the store and began looking at the fixtures and looking for the one I had seen online and was interested in buying. I walked around the store for 15 minutes looking for this piece and stopping near other ones I was interested in. I was, however, nervous to touch or turn on any of the pieces due to the delicate nature of the products. I was hoping someone would offer to help or show me the features of the products. However, At no point did anyone offer to help me. I counted NINE employees and I believe i was the ONLY customer in the store (possibly one more). What I did hear all about were the riveting stories of dates had and bars visited by the employees last night. I never found the light I had gone into buy, and since no on was interested in working with me I ended up leaving. One of the employees did offer me a "thanks, have a nice day" on the way out, but I was to disappointment to respond. Either the employees judged me by appearance and assumed I wasn't going to purchase anything (which was wrong, since I knew exactly what I wanted) or were so excited about last nights adventures that I wasn't worth stopping their story for. I'm very disappointed with Lightology. We went into the Chicago Avenue location to order some lights for a house we were remodeling in Iowa. We ordered a Jonathan Adler light for our dining room and it arrived damaged. Lightology kept giving me the run around to return it. I even had to cancel my flight to California to finalize my wedding plans because it was taking to long to resolve this issue. Eventually, FedEx came to pick up the damaged light fixture and a new one was sent out. When I called Lightology to get the new tracking number they said it had already been delivered. At that point I was worried because I did not receive a package. As it turns out FedEx had delivered it to the wrong house. When I finally received the light fixture the box had been opened and everything in the box was covered in dirt and leaves. Additionally, the light shade was dented and scratched. I was so fed up with everything that I just took the dirty damaged light fixture. I simply could not go through the whole process again when I was about to get married. Lightology didn't seem to care anyway. It's really too bad as we were ready to drop a ton of money at Lightology as the house needed nearly every fixture replaced. This includes each of the five bedrooms that has at least five sconces, the six bathrooms, the kitchen, the butler's pantry, the formal living room with eight sconces, the sunroom, the den, the family room, the art studio, the attic, the entire basement, all outdoor lights, the entry, the mudroom, all the hallways, etc., etc. Additionally, I've been able to find many of the fixtures I was going to buy at Lightology online through venders like Amazon for much less. As a bonus Amazon has excellent customer service and has no problem with returning damaged merchandise. read more

Today, on two separate occasions, I called the number on the Lightology website and was connected to one of the most amazing customer service people I have ever spoken with. Her name was Robyn. Wow! The first time I called this morning she actually put me in contact with the manufacturer of a lamp so I could find the correct style power adapter. She was honest and said she didn't know which of the two listed on their website was the correct one. I called Koncept in California and they provided me with the part number. Based on my earlier conversation with Robyn I didn't want to order this part from anywhere else. When I didn't find the part listed on the Lightology web site I called the customer service line again. To my surprise I got Robyn on the line again. I gave her the part number and she said unfortunately they did not stock it, but then she quickly gave me the name of several other retailers that did have it in stock. In fact, she directed me as well to the lowest priced options. Wow again! She was awesome to talk to on the phone and it was such a pleasant experience. I don't actually need lighting at this moment, but I will be sure to give Lightology first dibs on my future business just because of the experience of talking with this pleasant lady today. Thank you for having such awesome people to deal with on calls. Please thank her for me. You guys should hire more people like her or have her train anyone who talks to customers on a regular basis. BUYER BEWARE!!! Wish I had read the poor reviews on this company before trying to work with them. I ordered a light fixture for a client. I also graciously informed the company that the pricing on their site was inconsistent for color variations of the same light fixture, which should not be the case. They responded by canceling my order stating, "We make every effort to assure the accuracy of the pricing and product information on our website. From time to time, pricing or product information may be inaccurate. In such cases, we reserve the right to cancel your order." Then, they increased my price by around $300 - because of a price discrepancy which I brought to their attention! Had I not done so, they might've taken orders at that price for several more months. I don't treat my customers like Lightology treats theirs, so am honoring the price I was supposed to be getting for my client and losing money on the sale. I learned my lesson here - don't rely on Lightology's bait-and-switch tactics and don't quote clients any prices they give you. There are far too many other reputable retailers in this industry with better service and selection. You can do better. Stay away from these guys. read more

I recently had an exceptional experience at Lightology and want to let everyone know how pleased I am. I brought a defective Lightolier unit from my track lighting system in to order a new one. I had been told by my contractor, electrian, and designer that it was no longer available. I was lucky that a sweet young lady named Kara helped me. She was able to find the part right away and I decided to order two of them, just in case. Then she offered to try to fix the existing part as well. She had her technician examine the unit right then , took it apart, installed a new transformer patiently, checked out the wiring to make sure it now worked and returned a usable part to me. I have never before encountered such a personable, customer oriented person in a service position. She told us it was just part of Lightology's training to be of service to customers. I was so impressed with her refreshing attitude that I want you to be aware of her superior performance. I intend to recommend Lightology to my friends when they need new lighting products. p.s. This fabulous store is made for my husband and I! The lighting on display is a carefully edited selection of unique, artsy, funky, contemporary and/or fun pieces. They know their focus and are true to it. We had done some gentle looking for a kitchen table pendant light or chandeleir at the big box stores. The pendant light we chose at Lightology was by far more unique and interesting than anything we saw and cheaper! Yes, they carry some pricy, amazing peices but there we plenty of reasonable choices as well. In fact, we had a hard time chosing between 5! London was super helpful even though our purchase wasn't expensive. After working with her on a Saturday afternoon we exchanged emails and phone calls before making our decision. All our emails were answered immediately and she made follow up phone calls twice - all this for a purchase for under $100! In addition, they were happy to hold our light for us in the warehouse until our next visit to the city, several weeks away. read more

Lightology has made my day this morning. I have had an excellent customer service experience. I had a part I needed refunded or exchanged for a trim that accompanied a discontinued housing. Speaking to the team they exceeded my expectations in how easy it was for them to understand my situation. I will keep coming back to Lightology! Thank you Aris and Jon. It may be frustrating, however the lighting industry takes A LOT of patience. Some of the 1-2 star reviews surprise me about this company who seems to attempt to get all information needed in order to properly serve their clients. I really like ordering from this company. They have been able to answer every question I had from order/tracking to design. I even threw in a technical question about whether my flush mounted fixture would have insulation. Each time, they managed to get me the right answers so that I could place my orders with confidence, even if it meant contacting the manufacturer. I used the chat feature, worried that I'd get a bot or some inexperienced person. Nope, I got someone who was available within minutes and who could provide answers or solutions every. single. time. No need to escalate to anyone. In terms of product variety, they have everything from designer to big box products. They don't charge shipping. And their site is easy to filter and search by, which makes things easy when you're looking for specific configurations. Picky people will love the site navigation. I am truly amazed how Lightology has excellent service. Elizabeth a customer service representative took the time to tell me that my order was on back order. I'm surprised that I was even informed. Elizabeth would notify me with information on my order until I finally received it. I was so upset that my fixture came in damage. I called and emailed Elizabeth informing her how upset I was. I'm amazed how she stayed calm and how she handled the situation. I received a replacement to find out that one is also damaged. Elizabeth called me back and was extremely apologetic. She is now taking care of this issue for me once again. I was angry and frustrated at first until I spoke to Elizabeth. I am extremely pleased that I have gotten better service ordering something online then visiting other stores. I give Lightology 5 stars because of their employee. I am completing the process of decorating my new condo located in the heart of downtown Chicago. I had heard good things about Lightology but until now I had never had a reason to stop in. I went in expecting the same service that I was used to at Home Depot and other stores like that. That was not the case at all. I had no idea how complicated lighting my new condo could be. Luckily the sales person I worked with seemed to know everything. He showed me a bunch of fixtures that I never knew existed. He had a whole system of organizing everything for me. After I placed the order it was a bit of a wait for one of my chandeliers. Luckily, the customer service department kept me informed of it's progress from Italy to my door. It was worth it. On the whole I found the experience pleasant and educational. For my next home I will only be going to one lighting showroom. read more

I just worked with Alexander V . for his help to clarify the correct LED bulbs for the Astro floor lamps (Mitsu) that we purchased from Lightology. Not only did Alex clarify but then provided added value by linking me to the exact LED bulbs to maximize the the Mitsu's light source and confirmed that the Lutron "Caseta" wireless plug-in units purchased through Lightology will serve to dim the units as designed..and he confirmed the floor lamps we purchased will be perform well as reading lamps using the appropriate LEDs, one he recommended. I was impressed with his ability to quickly gain an understanding of our specifics lights, their function capabilities, accessories that can be applied, and I never expected an online chat resource to be so effective and efficient, a rarity a so appreciated.
