I had internet service from Lightwave Wireless set up at my home in Ramona yesterday. I've been living in Ramona since April 2024, and I have been stuck with Cox cable internet. Cox is SOOOO GROSSLY OVERPRICED. They were/are charging me $155 a month for 500mbps down, 50mbps upload service on an introductory promotional rate. That price includes whatever hideous fee Cox charges for unlimited monthly data. After the first 1-2 years, that rate would be even higher because the promotional period would be over and Cox would also start charging me to rent their cable modem monthly. The problem is, I would usually never see that 500mbps speed on speed tests. Many times it would be around 400mbps. I never saw that 50mbps upload speed, it was usually more like 29-30mbps. I also really hated dealing with Cox customer service. They are just the worst people on earth, almost malevolent. They know you're stuck with them, and they will screw you over at every single possible opportunity. Example, when I first bought this house back in April 2024, Cox sent me a home installation kit with my order. I tried every cable outlet in the house and none of them worked. I asked Cox to send a technician out since the previous owner's Cox internet service worked just fine but my new modem wasn't connecting. Cox tricked me into paying a monthly fee for "Cox Complete Care", to get a technician out to my house, then a few months later when I discovered the fee and cancelled it, they charged me over $150 cancellation fee even though I never knew I even signed up. On that day I decided that as soon as another viable ISP alternative popped up in my part of Ramona, I would ditch Cox immediately. Fast forward 6 months, and I get this flyer in the mail from Lightwave Wireless. At first I thought it was some type of cellular 5g home internet stuff, which is mostly garbage and not reliable. I did some research and it turned out it's not cellular at all, it's based on microwave technology and it requires a good line of sight to their tower on top of Mount Woodson to get this service. The service can work with perfect line of sight or near line of sight, but if there's a hill or mountain blocking your line of sight entirely, this service won't work for you. I know that cellular service is not a fit for me, but microwave service definitely has potential. This type of service has one weakness, which is line of sight, but it has some great strengths. Due to having no cable lines or power lines between your house and their tower, it means the service is effectively weatherproof. There is the potential for service up to 1000mbps with up to 200mbps upload, and the best part is even their highest tier of service cost a LOT less than what I was paying for mid tier Cox service, and all of their plans offer unlimited data built in. The flyer was very compelling, it promised unlimited data, no contracts, 30 day free trial, no overage fees, free static IP, and 10-20ms ping times.. all for 25-50% less than I was paying for Cox. I might have paid them extra money just to get Cox out of my life, but hey half price works for me! I decided to give them a call. This was on a Saturday and to my surprise an actual human being answered the phone. That human being is named Sue, and she is awesome. Maybe she was just bored that day because it was her day off, but she answered the phone anyway, and answered every single one of my questions, gave me realistic expectations of what to expect in my specific location, confirmed the 30 day free trial and etc. If I could give Sue a separate 5 star review I would! There is a $100 install fee for this service, but they do not charge you any monthly fees for their equipment. You also don't have to pay the install fee until your first bill comes in at the 30 day mark. They even offered $20 a month off for the first year. I decided to give them a shot. They came out on 12/17/24 to do a site survey and installation. There are some trees partially obscuring my direct line of sight so they couldn't mount their microwave antenna as high up as they wanted to ( the pics below are not the final mounting location, the installer ended up finding a lower position with slightly better line of sight than in the photos below). The installers were professional, friendly, on time, efficient, and they did a really nice, clean looking install for me. I love that their dish is also their modem, and it is powered via power over ethernet, the only equipment inside your house is a small PoE adapter, it's the size of a typical AC power adapter. I am getting a consistent 330-350mbps download, 40-50mbps upload with 15-20ms ping times. Everything I was doing before with the Cox 500/50 service works just as well with this 350/50 Lightwave service, I can't tell the difference in performance. If I trim some tree branches they can mount the dish higher and give me even faster speeds. This service is great. Literally half the price of Cox! read more

We live in a rural area and have struggled with good internet since we've moved in. We switched over to light wave wireless and have had excellent internet since. There installation team was incredibly professional and did a great job. Chris one of the technicians was extremely knowledgeable. In addition the customer service is excellent you get to speak with a human. After one of the three SDG&e power shutdowns in our area due to fire concerns our internet did not pop up as usual. After years of service I wanted to write a review. For 34 years I worked for AT&T & installed & built systems for internet lines, dsl & fiber. The irony was being in Valley Center there were not very many options for internet. Over the years We had Dialup a ISDN Line DSL & then Lightwave Wireless. We were so glad to get service from them. The options for speed were good, they were very responsive to any problems & issues over the years. 2019 UPDATE: After the recent hardware / infrastructure updates, the service is running smoothly again with advertised speeds at most times. Huge improvement over our recent poor experiences. Keeping our hopes high that this level of service is maintained. I almost went with an LTE solution for my new house in rural Ramona after Cox told me they wouldn't run cable to my property. Ping times, high cost, and crazy 2-year service contract made satellite extremely unattractive and DSL is limited to 1.5Mbps in my area which isn't really acceptable going into 2020 where everything is becoming smart and connected. I happened across Lightwave Wireless after one last search for a local solution before turning to LTE. I found them mentioned as a wireless provider in Valley Center and after researching them it seemed they had service in multiple locations in the San Diego area, the majority of their customers seemed happy, and that they've recently made some infrastructure upgrades on their end to be a stronger provider. I reached out to see if they service my part of Ramona. I spoke with Sue, who was professional and polite, and she said she would get in touch with one of their techs to verify service to my address. Shortly thereafter she texted me back saying they were confident they could bring it to my location and I booked an appointment. The following week their installer, Chris, came out to test the connection and was able to get a signal confirming it as a possibility. He recommended I cut down a tree to open up a clearer line of site to Mt. Woodson, where their transmiter is, and said for optimal results he'd need to come back with a bigger dish. He rescheduled for the following week, I went ahead and cleared the way to Woodson as per his advice, and built a mast on my roof to support the larger antenna. He kept to the schedule as planned and brought the bigger dish. The install went smoothly, his work was clean, and wiring tidy. He did a great job on the install; a consummate professional who cared about his work. All said and done I now have exactly what I ordered, the Level 7 50mbps package at the advertised speed, no 'gotchas' in the paperwork I was given to sign, and thus far I've been able to work from home with no interruptions. As a new customer I really appreciate being provided what I was sold and my experience with them up to this point inspires confidence that I wont have any problems sticking with Lightwave Wireless. Thinking the grass was greener on the other side, I chose to switch to another company about 10 weeks ago. It didn't take me very long to realize the mistake I had made. I called Sue at Lightwave to let her know I'd seen the error of my ways and asked could I please come back. She assured me there were no hard feelings and warmly took me back into the fold. She spent time explaining how the set-up would go, what I needed to do in terms of notifying the company I was currently using, and talking to me about the gentleman (Chris) who would come out for the installation. We have used Lightwave for our home in a remote area of Valley Center. Our options are limited out here. We are content with the quality and it is much faster than our previous vendor, however our biggest complaint is that the service goes down abrubtly and consistently for about 5-10 min 3-4 times a day (early morning, late morning and mid afternoon & late night) and has done that the whole year. I day trade in the morning, which causes great issues when it goes down even if it is only for 5-10min. It also creates issues when I am working during the day on the PC and for it to go down for a short period every day is annoying. It seems like everytime we have bad weather (rain and winds) our service gets disrupted. I have had to call customer service about 6 times for outages, and disappointedly they never pick up their phone,I am unsure if they even have someone in the office, however they generally will call you back within 1-3 hours. When they have come to my home to fix the issue, they have been polite and professional. Even one time when I thought I was having an outage they discovered that my modem was ever so slightly unplugged unbeknownst to me, and he was very patient and helpful. I do like them would recommend them for anyone who lives in an area where the larger companies do not serve and it makes us happy to support our local small businesses when we can. UPDATE: Chris from Lightwave contacted me immediately after he read my review, and took steps to help erradicate the daily outages I was experiencing. He sent his technical support over to my house on a few occasions to see if we can work out the bugs, which did not initially help, so a couple of days ago they upgraded my equipment, and things seem to be running much more smoothly and so far without any disruptions. We've been using Lightwave Broadband at our Office for a few months now and I will say that we are very happy we found them. It wasn't hard to drop our previous connection, especially since it didn't work! Based on where our office is located, our only other option was a medium to low tier of DSL or an exorbitantly priced T-1 that isn't even as fast as what we have on Lightwave. Conveniently for us, we have good line of sight to one of their towers and we consistently get 25 Mbps down and 4 Mbps upstream with very low latency. Admittedly, I'm a computer person by trade, so I'm well aware of what's good and bad in terms of speed. Compared to what we had, we have basically quadrupled our other service for a comparable price. As a company, Lightwave keeps it simple. Invoicing, installation and support is all local and personal, it's quite different than the mega companies you've gotten used to. My understanding is that no matter what company you choose for your internet you are geographically limited based on where you live or operate. If you are in the large part of San Diego County that Lightwave covers and you are sick of the other companies that have names closer to the beginning of the alphabet like we were, give them a shot! read more

We live out a rural area and for the longest time had no internet connection. Then we heard about Lightwave and we finally have internet service at our property! We are very happy with our internet service. It has been simple and easy process. We have no complaints on the service. I am also glad to be supporting a small local company in Valley Center. I do wish there was a way to pay the invoice online. However, I was told that they are working on that. In the meantime it isn't too inconvenient to call them up and pay my bill over the phone. We live in a very rural area and most internet companies are unable to get us service. I called Lightwave on a recommendation and they were extremely helpful! Sue was very upfront that they were extremely busy but would get a tech out as soon as possible to survey our area to see if we could get a signal. Chris, the tech we worked with, was very helpful and scouted out a place for us to get a signal. We had no power in the area so they said to just call and let them know when we were ready to set up. We called back the week before Thanksgiving, hoping we could get an appt within a couple of weeks. Sue and Chris both were great and we got squeezed in for an appt on Thanksgiving week! I love Lightwave Wireless. The Tech guys are AWESOME! Always friendly and they do a great job solving any issues. Jacob has been to the house a couple times and even answered some tech/gaming questions my son had. We only have the 2nd tier for $55, but have abt 10 devices and my son is gaming online and the service is fine. A few issues, but always resolved. Lately my son had issues with the service and I kept texting the tech guys for help (every couple weeks) and they always got back to me right away.
