I want to be clear that I don't believe this experience represents the values of the entire salon or its owners. My issue is specifically with this individual stylist and the way he handled a situation when the result did not meet my expectations. So I went on Christmas Eve to get a new haircut and I was not disappointed whatsoever. Marge was fantastic one more time. Her hands are blessed and my hair looked beautiful and long. I went back today to get my hair toned and Angelita was fantastic. She got exactly what I wanted in my hair. I had previously done some highlights myself that looked kind of orange and I wanted to fix the color to make it look natural again. Marge you are the best, I have lived in Chicago for 3 years and it was a bit difficult to get a stylist or barber who really did what I wanted. Marge made the cut I've been looking for in Chicago for all this time. The atmosphere of the salon is great, the whole team made me feel comfortable. Over the years of getting highlights, I've found that it's hit or miss whether a stylist/salon can give me the full-coverage look I want, since for my hair that takes a lot of time (like 4 or 5 hours) and requires a TON of product. Not every stylist is willing or able to go above the standard number of foils and devote that kind of time, which is totally understandable. But it makes me all the more grateful/impressed when I find a stylist like Nick who is willing to go above and beyond (he spent more than four hours on my hair) to achieve a perfect end result. I was also shocked by how affordable the price was. In my opinion, the quality of Nick's work was on par with some of the most expensive highlights I've ever gotten (and I usually end up paying way above base price since most salons up-charge based on the amount of product your hair requires). But even including tip, the total I paid here was remarkably affordable compared to other salons I've been to. When I called to book the appointment I explained to the front desk I needed to be paired with an advanced stylist because my hair is very difficult. I have cowlicks and thick, frizzy texture. I know this but I also know it's possible to get the haircut I want. I was assured that I would be with an "expert" of short haircuts and get what I wanted to achieve. When I sat in her chair for the first time (and last) I told her about the past 10 stylists I went to that butchered my hair and she reassured me she would give me an awesome haircut... NOT. I went to cosmetology school in NYC and worked under a celebrity stylist, I'm not sure what her credentials are but Jfc what a disaster. With all of my cowlicks my hair should have been washed, straightened then cut, not cut wet because my hair lays differently when it's dry and straightened (how I wear it). I also told her that I wanted it symmetrical on all sides so it should have been parted down the middle and crossed checked, not parted on the side while cutting. She then blowdried my hair and cut it again. Again, not using a flat iron when I have thick wavy texture. When I straightened my hair the next day and went through it, it was the most ridiculous haircut I've ever gotten, it made me laugh. The ends were cut in all different directions and in a zigzag pattern, there were long hairs all over the place and the left side was 2 inches longer than right. I had to cut off a bunch of hair to even it out. When I called them back to see if she correct this atrocity I was told that she would be able to see me the following week and I would be charged another $75 to "fix" what I did to my hair lmao when I had already paid $100...as if I would give more money to the person that destroyed my hair in the first place?! It took me two hours but I was able to give myself the haircut I wanted, no thanks to Salon Sen. Bad experience, won't return and I don't recommend.

It was probably the best 5 hours spent - Joey was sooooo patient with my stubborn asian hair, and needless to say, I looked fabulous. Soon after Joey moved to another salon, I followed him to keep up with my hair appointments. There's never been any disappointment or anything less than positive experience with Joey. I would say "I think my hair needs some touch up", and Joey would say "oh yes it does, hon". And you will be in good hands. And by good hands, I mean you will be so pleasantly surprised by how you look right afterwards, a little surprised and trying to get used to the new look. But then 3 days later you look into the mirror and you're like, oh jeez why do I look so good????? The coloring is so multidimensional - I've gotten so many compliments for my hair. I broke up with above-mentioned guy in June, and I went to see Joey again. "I want a change because I'm back on the market," I said. "I think maybe I want to go brunette again." Joey looked at me and said, "my dear, let's lighten you up this time because of the things you're going through. It's a touch time and darker tone will only weigh you down."
